In one of her editorials, Frosty Wooldridge has written about how undocumented immigrants cost taxpayers colossal sum of money annually. Wooldridge holds that these undocumented immigrants give rise to offspring who become deeply bounded or rooted to this country and they in turn cost taxpayers a huge sum of money annually. Wooldridge’s editorial is one of the controversial discussions both at the congress level and the country at large. This argument is one of those that thwart or impede the implementation of the DREAM Act which is to help the children of undocumented immigrants to enjoy some privileges such as obtaining in-state tuition and others. Wooldridge thinks that the rate at which these undocumented immigrants are having babies in this country is uncontrollable and fears that one day, they may outnumber the population of American Citizen and start a sudden attack on American citizens. Wooldridge wrote again that these children are not only threats but cause American taxpayers colossal amounts of money annually on their health, educational and basic needs. Wooldridge mentioned that not only do they cost us lot of money but are major perpetrators of criminal or deviant behaviors which cause them to end up in our various prisons-another economic disadvantage. Wooldridge mentioned that our congressmen watch unconcerned as the problem escalates. She also thinks that they “admire” the “illegal immigrants” and “their anchor children”. In Wooldridge’s editorial she makes hasty generalization, thinking that all the undocumented immigrants are unemployed. She holds that majority of all these immigrants are drug addicts who use the citizenship status of their “anchor” children to receive SSI benefits which is contrary to someth... ... middle of paper ... ...may lose most of their employees which can cause these companies to collapse. Again the rate of unemployment will increase for US citizens and legal immigrants at large if these companies collapse. One may argue that the companies won’t collapse because we have many citizens and legal immigrants who are unemployed and can fill these vacancies which are occupied by these immigrants. Indeed it is true but are they enough to fulfil 8 million job vacancies as the statistics show? I doubt that. I strongly believes that undocumented immigrants and their “anchor babies” will help improve the American Economy rather than devastating it if proper measures are put in place to deal with the situation, nevertheless, its negative ramifications cannot be abandoned. In a nutshell I think the benefits of the situation at hand are far greater than the disadvantages or demerits.
