Canadian Family Conflict Analysis

As a Canadian individual in 2016 I have a very diverse family. My mother and father’s families are very different, but have both been involved in conflict. When discussing my family I will discuss my great grandparents and their experience with conflict in Europe. Furthermore I will talk about their values that have been passed on to me, how these values shaped my idea of conflict and how they shaped my idea of conflict resolution.
My great Grandparents immigrated to Canada from Europe after WW2. The war was the reason they decided to leave. In Holland there was a lot of struggling due to the conflict, my great grandfather was taken to work in Germany while my great grandmother was in Holland witnessing soldiers creating conflict. If everyone was seen as Equal my family would not have faced world war two. Equality is also an important value because if you are mediating two parties such as a higher up boss and a worker it is important not to treat the worker unfair because the boss is paying you. My second value is being hardworking is a value that my grandparents valued and was what allowed them to come to Canada. Hard work is essential to solving a conflict, you have to be hardworking and dedicated because it can involve many steps to find a solution. My third value is love, love is almost the exact opposite of conflict. Love has shaped my view of conflict in believing there should not be any conflict, instead we should use conflict resolution techniques to solve the conflict and make the best of the situation. Love is essential in conflict resolution as well as someone in the conflict resolution field you should love your job and show that through your job. By putting that passion into your job you will show the parties you care about the situation. My fourth value is respecting others. When having a different opinion, culture, language, traditions, political standing and so on it is important to respect others. In Canada our laws say that we have the right to express our cultures and right to practice our religion. There is no good reason why there should be conflicts over this when it deliberately states in our laws that people are allowed to do this. There will be many times in con red where you do not agree with someone but you should still respect them and try to understand where they are coming

A key factor in Canada’s pursuit of an identity are the countries that have influenced it.Through the influences that other countries have had upon the nation of Canada, Canada has been able to create a unique identity. When Britain declared war on Germany in 1914, Canada was automatically enlisted in the war as well. Within three week, 45,000 Canadians had been enlisted, and John McCrae was one of them.1 McCrae was a Canadian physician and soldier. On Sunday May 2nd, 1915, Lieutenant John McCrae scribbled a rough poem on the battlefield of Flanders, France. The day before, his closest friend, Alexis Herlmer of Ottawa had been killed by a shell. McCrae performed the ceremony for his friend the night of his death. As the battle of Flanders continued on, wild poppies began blooming between the marked crosses that marked the various makeshift graves.2
