In "The Lady, or the Tiger?" by Frank Stockton, the main conflict is in the title of the story itself. The princess has to decide to herself which door her lover has to enter, the one with the woman she despises or the one with the tiger that will kill him. This decision is left unknown at the end of the story. But, most likely, the princess will choose the door with the tiger.
The princess knew that the beautiful young lady had admired her lover from a distance, and she had realized his lover had did the same. This made the princess jealous as she wanted him to herself. The princess did not want her lover to find happiness with another woman.
And, in addition, the princess has "savage blood" that courses through her and she also has "barbaric"
ancestry that will influence her decision. She would rather see her lover die then see her lover with a woman she hated. The princess' decision will be the tiger. She is too ruthless to choose the other door.
What would you do if someone you loved was being tried and they either lost their life or had to live with someone else? I believe the conflict in the story is an internal one. I think it is the conflict between the old woman's will power and Mother Nature. She encounters many obstacles that would influence most people to give up but she has motivation to get her task done. These encounters include a bush catching onto her dress, a scarecrow frightening her and discouragement from a white man. She also had to climb hills, cross streams and crawl under barbed wire fences which is certainly not considered an easy task for an elderly woman.. If I was forced to deal with these obstacles I know that I would most likely have turned around but her will power was too strong to let Mother Nature win.

The White Tiger written by Aravind Adiga is a bildungsroman telling the tale of how the peasant Balram rises to power. From a simple village boy, Balram becomes the founder of a corrupt and successful driving company. The majority of his journey he picked up small lessons from his master, Ashok on how he survives in the fast paced business world. Balram observes his masters actions and eventually becomes more successful than him, but consequently loses his innocence.
