They are always at the school so you can ask them a question or have them evaluate someone when needed and it costs nothing if one goes to the doctor, they could spend over $100 per visit.
The athletes that play one sport versus multiple sports all relate to the ethics of preventing sports injuries. A big topic of this pathway is the coaches’ role. A coach should know what’s right from what’s wrong when it comes to his or her player. When a player looks like he/she is tired then the coach should take the player out of the game. If the coach leaves them in the game they are more susceptible to injuries [Graham]. Another example is if a football player gets hit hard in a play then he should come out of the game and get evaluated for a concussion.

Then if he is okay then he can go back in [Graham].
An injury common to football and soccer players are concussions. Concussions are a very serious injury and are taken very seriously in professional sports. Concussions are mild traumatic brain injuries. They are caused by a blow to the head or body that results in the brain moving rapidly back and forth inside the skull [Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America]. Some common sports that have caused concussions is football, hockey, and soccer. Sports organizations have developed a “concussion protocol” so each head injury is tested and treated the same. First, they test the athlete for any observable signs of a concussion and ask the athlete is he feels any symptoms. Then, if the trainer suspects that the athlete has a concussion they remove him from the game and go inside for further evaluation [Higgins]. This “concussion protocol” is actually very important and serious because more and more studies are finding that high school athletes that have gotten concussions during sports are going to have brain damage when they are older. This brain damage can also lead to other …show more content…
diseases like chronic migraines, Alzheimer’s, strokes, tremors, etc [Higgins]. That is why if one feels like they have a concussion then they should go see a doctor to get treated for a concussion. Another important topic is athletes that play one sport versus an athlete that plays multiple sports. The competitive atmosphere in both girls’ and boys’ sports leagues has led to children specializing in one sport at young ages that can be damaging to their bodies [Harris-Taylor]. This is terrible for the athletes’ bodies, especially if the athletes don’t play other sports or give themselves a break once in a while. The really good high school athletes that want to get college scholarships quite frankly want to compete at the highest level now [Harris-Taylor]. To get to the highest level you have to train constantly and when you are doing that you are rarely get any resting time, this is where a lot more injuries start happening. Another factor that can play in when teams are in tournaments is that the players are not eating enough healthy food and staying hydrated enough so your body is not getting enough fluids and you cramp up and start to get headaches. Pitching regulations have been in place for many years now, but are they strict enough?
The balls that can be pitched by 13-14 year old is 95 with four or more days of rest. The balls that can be pitched by 15-16 year old is 95 with four or more days of rest. The balls that can be pitched by 17-18 year old is 105 with four or more days of rest. Lastly, the balls that can be pitched by 19-22 year old is 120 with four or more days of rest [Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America]. A lot of different people think that better pitching regulations should be put into place. For example, lower the amount of pitches that can be thrown for each age group. These pitching regulations will hopefully lower the number of overuse injuries, UCL tears and other elbow injuries. Research has shown that the amount of competitive pitching while fatigued is strongly linked to the UCL injury [Wright]. The UCL injury also known as the Tommy John Injury is when your UCL has to be reconstructed and surgically graft a tendon from somewhere else in the body. The injury results from repetitive use of the elbow during the violent motions involved with throwing a baseball. Little League and Cal Ripken have enacted pitch counts for their league games…Mike Bell firmly believes some of these guys are not getting enough recovery time between starts and/or appearances [Wright]. Andrews also thinks that young pitchers are throwing too hard, without the proper mechanics. The best professional pitchers
pitch with a range of ball velocity, good ball movement, good control, and consistent mechanics among their pitchers. Preventing sports injuries in high school and collegiate athletes is crucial not only for the athletes but for the industry of sports. Sports injuries can change the mental and physical state of the person that is/was injured and can have long-lasting implications. This topic is important because the future of the industry of sports is riding in the young athletes of today’s hand and if a great number of them are getting injured then sports won’t be as competitive. That’s why preventing sports injuries is very crucial. Prevent sports injuries in athletes affects the mental state of athletes, socially, and ethically. For example, young females are more likely to get injured because their bones, muscles, and tendons are not strong enough to withstand the force being put on them so they just snap or break. Another example is the coaches’ responsibility. The coach has a tremendous amount of responsibility for his players he has to warm them up, stretch, and coach with a lot of little tasks in the middle of the main tasks. Some possible solutions to preventing sports injuries is to always stretch before games and practices, strengthen and condition your body in the off season, and not to play year round. If an athlete does play year round they should take breaks of about a week a few times a year. One should always give themselves a break. Also, you should follow the guidelines enforced and recommended for the specific sport being played. Despite new efforts to prevent and treat sports injuries, more research is needed to develop new methods that will treat the most serious of joint injuries and ease the recovery of the injuries.
An Athletic Trainer working at the high school level gets to enjoy a variety of sports and with different sports comes different injuries. With football, the injuries an Athletic Trainer has to tend to are often more on the severe end of the scale. It is not uncommon to see a concussion (see Figure 2) or a torn ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament in the knee) in a football game compared to a softball game where a concussion or an ACL tear (see Figure 1) is less likely to occur. But in a softball game in comparison to a volleyball game, it is more likely to see a black eye or even just a very painful bruise. The more contact in the sport, the more injuries the Athletic Trainer gets to see and try to
Concussions and the effect they have on people ranging from the young to the old has become a very popular discussion in recent years. Generally people watch sports for entertainment and then there are those who engage in high impact sports from a very young age on. The people at home know how fun playing in a sport is, however they may not know the brutal consequences for some participating in that sport. Injuries to the brain are a main concern among those in the world of high impact sports. Football, soccer, wrestling, lacrosse, and rugby are among sports that athletes receive injuries in. The injuries vary from sprains, to fractures, to torn MCL or ACL, and bruised organs. Concussions are a severe type of injury endured by athletes in the sports world and this life changing injury is one that people are becoming more aware of.
The number of concussions in professional and amateur football has been rising and has sparked much controversy in recent years. These concussions are most likely linked with disease and even the deaths of some pro and semi-pro football players. New research is attempting to solve the problem but the issue is still prevalent in football today.
The world of sports is filled with great memories, grand moments and at times complete mayhem. There are moments like hitting a Home Run in game 7 of the World Series or memories of scoring an overtime goal during the Stanley Cup finals. However, there are also incredibly low moments when mayhem occurs such as an action or incident that results in a concussion. An injury such as a concussion can ruin your sports career or potentially your ability to function normally in the future. Concussions are caused by blunt force trauma to the head, a fall or an injury that shakes the brain inside the skull. Recovering from a concussion can take weeks, months or even years to heal. For some, it can impair your mental or mobility functions for life.
The Effects of Concussions on Human Beings. Did you know, that someone suffers from a brain injury every 21 seconds (Haas)? Children get concussions all the time, and most of the time they go unnoticed. The majority of concussions happen when one is playing a sport such as football, hockey, or lacrosse. Many famous athletes have had their careers, even their lives, cut short due to concussions.
Football is America’s favorite sport. It is a fast-paced, hard-hitting game. Every week thousands of men and boys all across the country take part in football and every week these men and boys receive violent hits during the game. Frequently, as a result of these violent hits, the player receives a concussion. However, the long-term effects of concussions on players are not fully understood. New research shows that even a slight concussion in a football game can have lasting effects on a player. As a result of this research, children under the age of fourteen should not play tackle football.
Recreational athletes, competitive athletes, high school athletes, college athletes, and professional athletes all have one thing in common: the risk of a concussion. It's impossible to go a season without one athlete from a team receiving a concussion. The more that these concussions are studied, the more we learn about them, such as their detrimental effects on athletes. Because of the risk of health issues and death that come with concussions, doctors, coaches, athletic trainers, and lawmakers are stepping in to protect athletes of all levels from receiving concussions. Concussions occur time after time throughout different sporting events and many are familiar with the word concussion, but what really is a concussion?
An anonymous person once said, "He who has health has hope; and he who has hope has everything." Ever since I was a young girl, I always knew I wanted to do something with helping people. But as I grew up, I also took an interest in sports, which leads me to where I am today. I would like to be able to help people in the sports ' world. In this essay, I plan to research concussions and how the long-term effects can impact people for the rest of their lives. Through research, I have learned exactly what a concussion is, the long-term effects and severity, and finally the treatments for a concussion. This relates to my senior project because for my final product, I will be presenting the lasting effects of concussions.
In sports, the best athletes are the individuals that give each team a chance to win every game. The bad news for the best athletes is that sometimes their health gets put second to their abilities. Roughly 1.8 to 3.6 million sports related concussions happen each year (Concussion Statistics). Stronger and faster athletes as well as more impact of the hits or falls have doubled the number of concussions in a decade (Concussion Statistics). Concussions can happen to every athlete, but when it happens to the star athletes, it is different. Schools have to follow direct concussion safety laws, but professional sports have more leniencies (Get). Wins are more important in the professional leagues compared to the high school and amateur levels. Wins lead to the coveted playoffs. The playoffs can lead to an even more coveted championship. During the playoffs, the games are shown on national television, seen by millions of fans. In the games, players can shine in the national spotlight. If an athlete performs well that individual can be paid more money in the future. If the coaches win their respective divisions, conferences, make the playoffs, make the championship game, or win the championship, it all leads to a higher pay for the coach. It also leads to more money for the team and city as well. Winning means so much in the professional leagues. But is it really win at all costs? As much as I personally love sports with a passion, I would prefer each player get fully recovered and then come back, rather than rush back still not at one hundred percent. I want my favorite players to play for a long time not for short stints between each injury. The player’s health is way more important to me then the championship. Rushing players back in...
Football is one of the most popular sports in the world. It is played in a lot of different ways, fashions, and other countries. It can be a very brutal sport with players hitting at the intent to hurt one another. With these intents come great consequences. In recent years the head injuries involved with this brutal game play have been getting uncomfortably high. Many rules have had to be enforced for player safety, because of the increase of head injuries resulting in tragic effects on players both old and new. One of the injuries that have had the most devastating effects is the concussion.
In conclusion, athletes playing only one sport or multiple sports can result in good and bad effects. You have
Brain injuries can play a major role in football. Reoccurring concussions also occur due to these brain injuries, and cause these athletes permanent damage. Trainers and doctors in the medical field diagnose these brain injuries by loss of consciousness, slurred speech, loss of balance, and loss of memory. In football, they could improve the safety of the helmets; improve the rules, or safety regulations in all sports to help prevent concussions.
To sum it all up,Professional sports are too risky for players because they can get head injures,CTE,and concussions. Also they can get hurt and cause issues.I predict that if players keep getting hurt then the safety policies would finally complain about the dangerous sports. In my opinion if all of this happens just because of a sport they should stop all of it and make a improved version of the game where its safe. When the players play the game they might go
A sport coaching is an important way of developing the career of athletes. It involves a manager or a coach helping sportspeople to utilize their abilities and advance in their sports careers. Coaches usually watch his/her performer in a match, identify areas that need improvement in the performer’s sporting, and develop plans for training sessions that will be used to correct the problems identified. The coach usually applies some skills which are usually gained through formal education and training or through experience and observation (Knowles et al 2005). This includes the use of an appropriate coaching philosophy to learn the psychological aspects of sportspeople and set the stage for performance within a sports team. A coaching philosophy
Many athletes in retirement have suffered from life changing injuries. “Nine out of 10 athletes say they have been injured playing a sport, and 54 percent say they have played with an injury such as a sprain or even a broken bone” (“Changing the Culture of Youth Sports”). This is what happens to almost every athlete across the world if they play a contact sport.People can change this for the better of both sides, entertainment and human health, if they educate people, change their mindset or attitude, and use more money.
