Introduction
The task for this week's assignment is to discuss specific common areas of concern in reporting hard drive, network, and memory issues, explaining what to look for in these areas.
Overview
Regular performance monitoring ensures that administrators always have up-to-date information about how their servers are operating. When administrators have performance data for their systems that cover several activities and loads, they can define a range of measurements that represent normal performance levels under typical operating conditions for each server. This baseline provides a reference point that makes it easier to spot problems when, or before they occur. In addition, when troubleshooting system problems, performance data gives information about the behavior of the various system resources at the time the problem occurs.
Hard Drive Monitoring
There are many factors that need to be monitored to determine the performance of a hard drive system. For the purpose of this paper, I will be focusing on two areas that I feel are important. They are disk space and disk efficiency.
Disk space is important to monitor because some applications may fail to run if they can't allocate the required space needed to work. Also, low disk space can limit the ability of the paging file to grow as needed, which in turn affects the system's virtual memory. If the paging file can't grow then virtual memory is severely limited which could slow down or crash a system.
Using the built-in monitoring utility Performance Monitor (Perfmon.msc), under the category Add Counters/Performance Object/LogicalDisk, there are two counters that can be used to monitor disk space. They are "% Free Space" and "Free Megabytes". The % Free Space counter displays the percentage of total usable free space on the selected logical drive or drives. This is a much better indication of free space than right clicking the drive and viewing its properties. The Free Megabytes counter basically provides the same type of information, but in a different format. It displays the available free space in megabytes instead of percentages. If after running these counters it's determined that space is running low, the administrator should try running "Disk Cleanup" from within Performance Monitor, compress the hard drive if feasible, or move some files to another disk drive.
Monitoring disk efficiency is a little more complicated than monitoring free space, but is necessary to ensure that the disk drives are running at peak performance. There are a few steps that should be taken prior to monitoring disk efficiency.

Auditing is important to Systems Administrators where they can watch accounts’ access and login activities on each computer in the infrastructure. In order to do so, Systems Administrators can do so using the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC). In order to do so, Systems Administrators can enable the auditing option of what they wish to audit. For example, the login auditing option can be enabled in the Group Policy Management Editor (GPME). Moreover, Systems Administrators have many auditable items that they can setup and benefit from in the Active Directory world.

File servers are an important part of any business. The file server is the central location of files for a business small or big. The file server can be a cloud accessible server which grants accesses anywhere. The file server can also be a dedicated server which is only used on the business network. I am going to touch on the specifications of a file server. This means I am going to go over CPU, memory, bus, DMA, storage, interrupts, input/output peripherals, and monitors of a files server.
This white paper identifies some of the considerations and techniques which can significantly improve the performance of the systems handling large amounts of data.
Choosing which motherboard to use is important. It also is closely related to what processor is chosen. Because of cost saving factors, the AMD Athlon processor is the best choice. Therefore we can only provide a motherboard compatible with the AMD AthlonXP 1900. For our client, we decided on the motherboard Aopen K77-333. This motherboard is an excellent choice for our client because:
‘If you can’t measure it, you can’t management it’, [Dan vesset and Brian, M. 2009]. Performance management is concerned with the measurement of results and with studying progress to achieving objectives base on the results. Managing performance can tell you what you’re doing well in, and also reveal areas where you need to make adjustments. Measuring performance tells you how far you’ve gone achieving your ultimate
The first step in network capacity analysis is to define a baseline profile of the performance levels of your current network by using Performance Monitor and Network Monitor. This involves sampling various aspects of your network over several days. Examine these readings to decipher what is normal and abnormal about how your network performs. This includes pinpointing which areas of your network experience the heaviest load, which users or applications cause the most traffic, ...
Owners and managers require financial statements to make important business decisions that affect its continued operations. Financial analysis is then performed on these statements to provide management with a more detailed understanding of the figures. These statements are also used as part of management's annual report to the stockholders.
Paging is one of the memory-management schemes by which a computer can store and retrieve data from secondary storage for use in main memory. Paging is used for faster access to data. The paging memory-management scheme works by having the operating system retrieve data from the secondary storage in same-size blocks called pages. Paging writes data to secondary storage from main memory and also reads data from secondary storage to bring into main memory. The main advantage of paging over memory segmentation is that is allows the physical address space of a process to be noncontiguous. Before paging was implemented, systems had to fit whole programs into storage, contiguously, which would cause various storage problems and fragmentation inside the operating system (Belzer, Holzman, & Kent, 1981). Paging is a very important part of virtual memory impl...
Computers; they are a part of or in millions of homes; they are an intricate part of just about every if not all successful businesses, the government, and the military. Computers have become common place in today’s society and the lives of the people who live in it. They have crossed every national, racial, cultural, educational, and financial barrier, which consequently ushered in the information age. A computer is a programmable electronic device that can store, retrieve and process data, and they come in all shapes, and sizes. They can be used for and in just about anything. As stated before, they are used in just about every aspect of modern society. They are so fundamental to modern society that it would be disastrous to society without them. As stated before, there are many areas in modern society that are run by computers. They play an intricate part of millions of homes in the world. Office workers in business, government and the military may use them to write letters, keep rosters, create budgets, find information, manage projects, communicate with workers, and so on. They are used in education, medicine, music, law enforcement, and unfortunately crime. Because computers have become such a part of the world and how it operates, there is a tremendous responsibility for those who are in control of these computers and the vital information that they carry, to manage and protect them properly. This is management and protection is vital because any loss or damage could be disastrous for the affected entity. For example, a mistake or intentional alteration of a personal credit file could affect ones ability to buy a car or home, or can lead to legal actions against the affected person until the mistake or intentional alteration has been corrected. Therefore, with the advent of computers in the information age, and all of the intentional and unintentional violations against them, comes the need to safeguard them and the information they carry with strong systems and policies of computer security.
Performance management is a useful and powerful tool that can be used by managers to identify what areas of their organisation they need to improve to increase the organisation’s overall performance. The idea of a balanced scorecard enforces a sensible distribution of resources and effort across all aspect of performance an organisation is, or should be, concerned with.
Computers are very complex and have many different uses. This makes for a very complex system of parts that work together to do what the user wants from the computer. The purpose of this paper is to explain a few main components of the computer. The components covered are going to be system units, Motherboards, Central Processing Units, and Memory. Many people are not familiar with these terms and their meaning. These components are commonly mistaken for one and other.
To establish accurate metrics is very critical, which is mostly required for an organization’s incident response capability to obtain the proper budget required. In most of organizations ultimate users may report an incident through one of three avenues. This three avenues may be their immediate supervisor, the corporate help desk (or local Information Technology department if there is no formal help desk), or an incident hotline managed by the Information Security entity. Typically, employee-related issues are reported to a supervisor or directly to the local Human Resources department while end users report technical issues to the help desk.
