Technology is vastly changing, and radiographers need to keep up with this ever changing technology, especially of the computer. Computed Radiography systems are being used worldwide by many radiographers as they are one of the most reliable resources for storing images, which makes accessing past images effortless. No paperwork, less training for radiographers plus more efficiency and consistency.
In Computer Radiography no film-loaded cassette is needed, instead an imaging plate is used to obtain an x-ray. Although these imaging plates are expensive they have many beneficial aspects. Imaging plates are fast and efficient plus x-rays can be seen more clearly when adjusting the brightness and contrast of an image. PACS( Picture Archival and …show more content…

Images can be enhanced by adjusting the brightness and contrast of an x-ray to get more clear image to identify lesions more clearly and easily. 2. Images can be stored digitally which saves space and perhaps the loss of images over years. 3. Less retakes of images which then causes less radiation to the patient and radiographer and less time consuming. 4. Images can be processed quickly, +-15 seconds. 5. Transfer of images from one computer to another which saves time and reduces the chances of error along the way. 6. Images are able to be put onto a disk or flash drive to be sent off to faraway places. 7. Patient information is easily accessible without having to search through papers to find the right one which would waste time. 8. Less labour for radiographers. 9. Advanced methods like IMRT (Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy) and Stereotactic Radiography The disadvantages of Computer Radiography include: 1.Imaging plates are more expensive 2. Dependence on technology and especially of the computer, radiographers have to keep up with the alterations of the computer, therefore they have to go for training each time the computer is improved. 3. Data is stored on the computer and sometimes computers can be unreliable in the sense that the computer can be completely wiped of all the data stored on
