ABSTRACT
The composite materials are advance engineering material, which is having additional characteristics, is reviewed in this paper. The composite material is very useful in various fields of engineering such as mechanical, structural, electrical and also having some valuable properties like shock absorbing capacity, light in weight, fire resistance, insulation, weathering resistance, flexibility in design etc. Composite material is also use to reduce the vibrations in machine tools structure like drilling, milling, lathe and grinding.

PROPERTIES OF COMPOSITES
The composite materials have valuable properties, which makes effective for the use of composites.
2.1 High Strength and stiffness: Composite materials have high strength and stiffness, which results in easy of testing results [4].
2.2 Lightweight: Composite materials are light in weight, and having strong weight ratio, which results in ease of transportation and operations.
2.3 Fire resistance: The ability for composites to withstand fire has been steadily improving over the years. There is two types of systems to be considered, fire radiant and fire resistance, which results to prevent fire in materials.
2.4 Insulations: Fiberglass Developments Ltd produced the Insulator Support straps for the Tranz Rail main trunk electrification. The straps, although only 4 mm thick, meet the required loads of 22 kN, as well as easily meeting insulation

Applications of Composites
In civilian and military aerospace.
In buildings, roads, bridges and pilings [8].
In terminal boards, metering devices, bus supports and lighting components.
In commercial and recreational boats and ships.
In molding, vanity sinks, shower stalls and even swimming pools.
In refrigerators, freezers, ranges, ovens, dishwashers for components that include control panels, handles, knobs, vent trims, side trims, motor housings, kick plates and many others [9].
In vibration controls as a bed of machine tool structure [10].
5. CONCLUSIONS
Finally, it is conclude that composite materials have various applications in different engineering field. The high strength and stiffness makes it flexible to operations. Mechanical, physical and chemical characteristics are better in comparison to metals. In addition, vibrations generation is being control with help of composites (glass fiber polyester and glass fibre epoxy) and increase the damping of the machine. Composites are very useful to obtain better results with high accuracy in various testing operations. Composites is also thermally and chemically resistance in nature which results in resist the attack of reactive chemicals, and can use as a insulation medium in electrical
Chemically all polymeric materials comprise of hydro-carbon chains and usually have high heat of combustion. When they are exposed to fire, they burn rapidly with the release of high amount of heat, flame and smoke. Similarly the natural fibers, wood flour, are highly combustible and burn rapidly. So for safely use of the composites materials they must have flame retardant properties as well.

Stiffness In terms of stiffness this additive is hard and stiff. This affects the polymers in a good way because it acts like a protective shield for the polymer to stop any polymer oxidation on the polymer.
It has also been discovered that the components of Kevlar fiber, have a radial orientation that is in a crystal. Crystal-like regularity is the largest contributing factor in the strength of Kevlar fiber. PROPERTIES It is five times stronger, yet the same weight as steel. Kevlar Aramid fiber is an improved material, which is an extremely lightweight, man-made organic fiber. Kevlar fiber has a combination of properties, which makes Kevlar a very useful material.
Three educational categories of fire behavior as they apply to fire streams are, fire development, thermal layering, and flashover.
Dental materials are used for a variety of reasons. The basic reason for using dental materials is to restore the tooth back to its original anatomy. Some materials are used more than others but it depends on their characteristics. Composite resin is a type of dental material. Some dental materials do not have the esthetic characteristic that composite resin has. That is why sometimes, it is more favorable than other dental materials. It is one of the most common dental materials that are used to restore a tooth back to its natural appearance.
Also it is used in many other areas such as toaster, microwave oven, handwriting recognation, helicopter flight control system, etc. (Ural, 2006). Application areas are getting more more by the time.
Composite materials have become extremely useful and since been adapted for aviation. They have been in development ever since the use of aluminum in the early 1920’s. Composites are components that are mixtures of two or more inorganic or organic compounds. One material acts as a matrix, which is the compound that keeps everything together, while the other material provides a reinforcement, in the form of fibers embedded in the matrix.

Ultrasonic testing (UT) is considered as one of the modern technology that would allow engineering constructions and solid materials to be checked and detect internal faults while keeping structures intact and undamaged. Ultrasonics use acoustic waves to disseminate through the material to test and detect any irregularities. Such irregularities are discontinuities (type and location), the material’s grain structure, thickness, internal corrosion, etc. Ultrasonic testing can be used on a wide variety of plastics, composites, ceramics and metals, but cannot be used on wood and paper products. Other limitations include the material’s shape, its surface, its orientation when testing, and the device must be able to test the material with ease.
There are hundreds of flames retardants and they are usually categorized according to their chemical composition. Their chemical composition affects their physical properties such as their color and smell, and their chemical properties
The material selection methods for the bicycle frame is analyzed The Ashby’s method is used for the testing of the applicant materials. I will use composite for bike frame because it makes the frame lighter and also satisfying all the design specifications. No doubt metals have high rigidity but composites are the best appropriate choice for our design.
Abstract - The force offered by the driver of an automotive in navigating the vehicle along the road is transmitted through the steering wheel through the steering system up to the front wheels. Manual or hydraulic mode is utilized to turn the wheels. This dissertation work aims to focus on the ‘universal joint’ also called the ‘yoke’ .The component have two halves that pair to effect a flexible axial joint while accommodating misalignment. Forces are transmitted through the ‘spider’ or the ‘web’ within the two halves. This work attempts to evaluate the strength of the joint to avoid failure. Besides, the scope for mass reduction in realizing a lighter component shall also be investigated using the methodology for ‘Topology Optimization’ while engaging `Altair Hyperworks - OptiStruct’ in dealing with problem. Mathematical treatment is offered to understand the extent of forces to
These materials are divided into two categories movable contents and interior and exterior finishes. Two types of fire loads must be determined for every building and they are the localized and distributed fire loads. The localized fire load shall be determined to reflect concentrations of combustible material that have the potential to pose a more
This chapter introduces the general concepts and information pertaining to composites. The composition and properties of the various components that make up a composite will be investigated as well as the various types of composites that are commonly used. This will then be followed by a review of the testing techniques and apparatus that can be used in testing the mechanical properties of composites.
