Everyone is obsessed with checking on Facebook or Twitter instead of focusing on the task at hand. Social media has made many people become multitaskers rather than being able to do one thing at a time. Before social media came to be everyone was a lot more productive then they are now. Many people look at multi-tasking as getting more done all at once but when your brain has to switch back and forth between tasks and finding out where they were in that project actually makes it harder to concentrate and in the end people get less done. “Researchers now know our brains cannot focus attention on two things at once,” says Dr. Cantor. For those that are in school, grades can begin to drop. Students procrastinate and will choose social media over writing that paper, doing their homework, or studying for a test. Spending too much time on social media can distract you from a certain task. Motivation slowly decreases the more social media is being used.
