A Comparison of Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story.
There is a lot in common between the two plays Romeo And Juliet and West
Side Story. The main male characters have many things in common. In fact,
Toni and Romeo both miss the beginning fight at the beginning of the plays, they
both fall in love and end up getting killed. The difference between the two is
that Toni takes place in the 1950s'', while Romeo happens in Elizabethan times
(the late 1500s). The two main female characters also have many things in
common. Juliet and Maria both come from families that hate each other's
boyfriend's families. Something that makes Juliet different from Maria is that
Juliet dies and Maria lives. In both of these plays the main male character
kills a relative of their lover. In Romeo And Juliet, Romeo kills Tybalta,
Juliet's cousin. In West Side Story, Toni kills Bernardo, Maria's brother.
There was a person in both play's that tried to make peace. These people were
the Prince and the Lieutenant. The Prince, from Romeo And Juliet, had told
Romeo and Juliet's families that if there was another riot that the heads of
each family will be killed. The Lieutenant, from West Side Story, had told the
Puerto Rican's and the American's that if they get into another fight they all
will have to go to jail. The difference between the two peace-makers is that the
Prince has more power than the Lieutenant. In the story of Romeo and Juliet,
Paris wants to marry Juliet against her wishes. Her father wants Paris West
Side Story to marry Juliet. Juliet goes off and marries Romeo without telling
anyone. In Chino wants to marry Maria against her wishes, just like Paris in
Romeo and Juliet. Maria and Toni do not get married, which is in contrast to
Romeo and Juliet. Marcucio in Romeo and Juliet, is killed while battling Tybalta.
In West Side Story Riff is killed in a knife fight with Bernardo. Both deaths
are accidental and cause the hero's ( Romeo and Toni) to kill the close relative
of their lovers (Tybalta and Bernardo). Both stories conclude in the sad
Romeo and Juliet are madly in love with each other and will go to any lengths to be together.
The dropping of the atomic bomb was a major turning point in United Sates history and WW2 specifically, it caused the surrender of Japan and ultimately ended the war which had been going on since 1939 two years prior to U.S. involvement. The dropping of the atomic bomb not only ended the war but lead to a fight over which nation had the most atomic weapons, a terrifying power play between countries. Through the years leading up to the dropping of the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki the United States struggles with preventing the speed of communism and intimidating the Soviet Union. Through WW2 American casualties were also adding up fast. The use of the atomic bombs was a shock strategy the government saw as the most successful was to

The language used in these two scenes is quite different. In Romeo and Juliet the majority of the scene is of the two lovers confessing their undying love for each other using beautiful language and many metaphors. They also discuss marriage and serious commitments to each other. In Westside Story, this scene is spent singing to each other, which I find, makes it more romantic but has less tension. They also don’t seem as serious about commitment towards each other.
In the film, West Side Story. The two rival gangs, the jets and the sharks meet at the school disco. They refuse to dance with any member. of the opposing gangs, which results in a dance showdown. At different ends of the dance hall, Maria and Tony lay eyes upon each other.

A huge proponent to the use of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and August 9 of 1945 was President Harry Truman. Although they value the ideas and contributions out in by the committee they choose, the president ultimately has the last say on war time decisions. It just so happens that President Truman wanted to drop the bomb. President Truman believed that Japan's leaders would not surrender to the terms outlined in Potsdam meeting. He saw it fit to drop the bombs and end all doubt.

There are many tragedies to be found in literature, but only a few are like Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. It is a story of forbidden love in which a young couple are torn apart by their families’ feud in Renaissance Italy; the play’s tragic ending has both main characters die. Many aspects of this play have sparked a heated debate: is Romeo and Juliet a tragedy or is it simply tragic? Some critics claim that the play lacks elements that are necessary for a tragedy. Yet Aristotle explicitly states the essential components of a tragedy in his Poetics, and Romeo and Juliet meets those requirements. Romeo and Juliet can be considered an Aristotelian tragedy because of Romeo’s impetuousness, Juliet’s loyalty to Romeo, and the play’s peripeteia.
Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story share many similar themes. Romeo and Juliet both chronicle a story of overcoming prejudice and hatred, forbidden love, and defying stereotypes that nobody thought could be broken. The two stories are similar in a multitude of ways, even though their settings are centuries apart- Romeo and Juliet set in the 1500’s, and West Side Story set in the 1950’s. Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story both teach a lesson of how prejudice can teach you how to hate, and how one of your rivals may be the one who helps you remember how to love.
“I’ve been held down like a piece of meat while monsters disguised as men violated me again & again.” (Gladys Lawson, Blood Borne Connections.) Human trafficking is the modern day slavery, it involves taking control over a person through force, fraud or coercion to exploit the victim for forced labor, sexual exploitation. or both (“What” par.1). This is become the sad reality for many, approximately three out of every 1,000 people worldwide are being forced into this such slavery. Victims of human trafficking are people of all backgrounds and ages, no one is safe from the dirty hands of human traffickers. Every year thousands of men, women, and children are forced into human trafficking the public needs to be informed, enhance penalties for violators, and raise awareness to finally put a stop to these horrible crimes that are happening right end our noses.
Paramount aspect of the movie and the play, the theme, were the same, and the overall messages in both were the same. For example, one main message in the stories was that love conquers all. This was demonstrated in both the play and the film when Romeo and Juliet kept secretly meeting each other even though they knew it was against their families’ wishes. In one scene of both the movie and the play Romeo and Juliet even got married and died together so that even if they could not be together on earth they would be together in death.

“Injuries of human dignity and Human rights of a globalized society. Nobody may be held in slavery or peonage; Slavery and slave trade are in all forms forbidden”. These are the words of the Universal declaration of human rights (United Nations, 1948).Human trafficking is just another name for modern-day slavery, where the victims involved are forced and deceived into labor and sexual exploitation. Exploitation referring to using others for prostitution or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labor or services, slavery, or the removal of organs. The numbers are scary. Almost 600,000 to 800,000 women and children are annually trafficked across national borders. This does not count for the numbers that are trafficked within their own countries. Human trafficking is very much hidden and accurate data and the extent of nature of human trafficking are hard to calculate. Trafficked victims are often in dangerous positions and may be unwilling and too scared to jeopardize their lives to report or seek help from authorities. Victims live daily with emotional and physical abuse, inhumane treatment, and threats to their families, like they are going to torture...
William Shakespeare has provided some of the most brilliant plays to ever be performed on the stage. He is also the author of numerous sonnets and poems, but he is best known for his plays such as Hamlet, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Romeo and Juliet. In this essay I would like to discuss the play and movie, "Romeo and Juliet", and also the movie, Shakespeare in Love. The play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is set in the fictional city of Verona. Within the city lives two families, the Capulets and the Montegues, who have been feuding for generations.
