I will demonstrate that Zeus, the Greek myth god, and Marduk, the spitting image of Zeus in the Mesopotamian stories, have many similar and different characteristics, but both seem to have a similar purpose because of their power, identity, and other leadership roles and ideals.
Marduk, who is said to be very handsome with limbs well made, with fire from his mouth, as well as his huge four ears and four huge eyes, is the son of Ea and Damkina. Marduk is known as the chief god in Babylon and later declared as “Lord of Universe” by other gods. Marduk had many encounters, but the encounter with Tiamat helps demonstrate how powerful and mighty Marduk truly was. After many other attempts by others, Marduk agrees to fight Tiamat. Just like Zeus, Marduk has the power of storm and sky on his side. Marduk makes Tiamat swallow the storm, splitting her in half, and defeating her. After controlling possession of the tablet of destiny, Marduk later hands the tablet over to Anu, then divides the gods, and obtains the title, “Lord of Universe”. This story is important because it shows that Marduk is capable of overpowering Tiamat even after others previously tried and failed. In addition, Marduk uses his identifying power: storm, which consists of sky and winds as well.

These godly figures consist of similar characteristics and similar powers and the amount of those powers. As stated in an article, “Scholars have recognized many similarities between Marduk and Zeus. Like Zeus, Marduk is a sky god, and is of a younger generation of gods. They both battle to create order, and both overthrow their parents to triumph.” With that being stated, it helps demonstrate that these similarities are noticeable and logical. The Enuma Elish’s emphasis is not on the creation of humanity, but rather on the rise of the sun god Marduk, and how he became the supreme god. Marduk was born of Ea, who was born of the bitter water god Tiamat, and was very powerful. He was enlisted to defeat Tiamat and her monsters in a great war, and agreed on the condition that he will forever remain king of the gods. He defeated Tiamat, tore her body in half and used it to create the Earth and the sky. He is also credited with positioning the constellations to represent the gods, and assigning jobs to the gods who fought on the losing side with Tiamat in the war. He then created man to serve the gods in their defined duties, as it was deemed beneath them to perform such duties. Another similarity is that they are very strong leaders that will overcome any challenges that come their way. For example, Odysseus has many challenges he faces, like Polyphemus, but he defeats him with a stick on fire. He also has to deal with Poseiden because of what he did to his son polyphemus and defeats him with help from the gods/goddess which were Athena, Zeus and Aeolus. Another challenge he faces are the Seirenes, but has the help from Athena so he and his shipmates do not die and overcome this challenge, and more.
Hercules of 1997 got put together by one of the popular Disney directors, Ron Clements and John Musker. Their earlier works include “The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” and “The Great Mouse Detective,” which were movies that were astoundingly successful Disney movies that almost everyone enjoyed watching. Hercules without a doubt is one of my top Disney favourite movies, because of its really pop and melodious songs, and its simple yet very intricate plotline.
There is no doubt in mythology that the king of gods, Zeus, is the most supreme and powerful, ruling the sky. He controls the thunderbolt, a symbol of power feared by both gods and mortals. The Greeks and Romans honored Zeus above all other gods. He is without mistake, the god of all gods. Their stories of Zeus are plenty; his designs have molded mythology from his birth. Zeus' victory in outwitting his intelligent wife, Metis, by swallowing her pregnant, was the gateway used by the Greeks and Romans to show Zeus as the greatest god to come since his father and grandfather. However, as the stories of the gods and goddesses unfold, the Greeks and Roman's interpretation of Zeus' characteristics are different. Zeus is always upheld as the king of gods, but his other personal attributes to his godly rein are conflicting. Zeus' characteristics of fearfulness of female deities, cunningness and use of trickery, and lust in Ovid's Metamorphoses compared to the Theogony are opposed due to Hesiod's true respect of Zeus versus Ovid's lack of respect of Jupiter in Roman mythology.
Although Greece’s Heracles and Disney’s Hercules have differences, they also have similarities. After reading the Greek myth and watching the Disney movie I can see what they changed and what they kept the same. In both the Enuma Elish and Hesiod’s Theogony, power is increased with each generation of succession and eventually culminates to a redistribution of powers. In Greek Mythology a rivalry always occurs between certain Gods and Goddesses. In the case of Apollo and Dionysus there is no exception. They are half brothers, both sons of Zues and they compete just as most brothers do. Though the two Greek Gods, Apollo and Dionysus, were actually very similar in some ways, they severely contrasted in others.
I decided to analyze the similarities and differences between the two gods: Zeus and his son Dionysus. Even though Dionysus is of the same lineage of Zeus, this does not mean they share all of the same characteristics of one another. They differ greatly in attitude, appearance and morals.
