I also chose this painting because I find it really intriguing how a simple landscape has become so commonly known and iconic. The painting is said to be the view from
Vincent Van Gogh’s window outside the Saint-Remy-de-Provence, and it depicts a landscape that includes a village, a tree, mountains, and the night sky. Keep in mind that Van Gogh was in an asylum room with barred windows so I think that he painted this because he felt trapped and seeing outside made him feel free and that the lights represent a glimpse of hope for him. Media can also contribute to the appeal of the art piece and that is why this piece is so commonly known because of the way it was made. Furthermore, I think that the media of an artwork contributes to the way the audience sees and feels about the art. Adding on to what I have said with emotion I think that choosing the right colors is important because it can send a completely different message to the viewers if the sky was colored bright yellow and if the title was The Starry Night. I think that the media contributes in many ways in this painting by adding uniqueness and by effecting people’s emotions.
Overall, by analyzing The Starry Night I saw that it is more than just a simple painting and that there are deeper meanings to think about. I saw the different emotions that the art work can make the audience feel and how it can impact a person’s perspective. I also looked deeper to see the type of elements the artist has used and how different elements can complement each other to create stunning effects.
