The two poems “Hanging Fire” and “Teenagers” both have some things in common, but also share some different concepts. The poem “Hanging Fire” main concept is talking about her fears, thoughts and worries. It’s also talking about how she has to go through life situations on her own The main concept of the short poem “Teenagers” is mostly talking about the lack of communication of her and her parents. As a teenager her two parents shut her out of her life with no explanation, Shut the doors along with their mouths. Although the two poems don’t have everything in common, they do share some similarities. The way the points of views in each different poem creates a different theme for each poems using different points diction to convey meaning for each of the two poems. In the poem “Birthday” a humorous tone shows a newborn baby in a first person point of view. As opposed to the poem “The Secret Life of Books” which uses a third person point of view for a more serious tone. The two poems would change dramatically whiteout the different points of views because without the humor of the newborn baby being the narrator the poem might take a different spin on the meaning to create a more serious tone. As opposed to “The Secret Life of Books” where the poem is a big personification which if it was not in a third person point of view it might have a a humorous tome in the background. The two poems have many things that help contrast them with each other another one of these being the theme chosen to give each poem a separate identity, while “Birthday” has some background information in some of the diction it uses to World War II “The Secret Life of Books” has no need for the knowledge of background information just the curiosity of the brain
Both poems are sans rhyme scheme and have informal structures, which intentionally or not, fit very well with the frantically changing mood of the teenage years. For instance, a formal villanelle structure and iambic rhythm are left out because they are organized and premeditated, which are two adjectives that do not describe the typical teenager’s life. If one could turn these years into paper and ink, it would look like “History of Desire” and “Hanging Fire”; they are messy enough to show the angst, and neat enough to show hope for adulthood. This is why these poems are both grouped into stanzas. “History of Desire” is grouped into ten four line stanzas, followed by a final couplet. “Hanging Fire” is built from three stanzas; eleven, twelve, and twelve lines respectively. Both “History of Desire” and “Hanging Fire” reflect on former loves, and are narratives about being seventeen and fourteen years old. With both poems possessing strong sentimental tones, readers are shown how much of an impact a father can have on a child’s life. Clearly the two main characters experience very different past relationships with their fathers, but in the end they both come to realize the importance of having a father figure in their lives and how their experiences have impacted their futures.
In literature, themes shape and characterize an author’s writing making each work unique as different points of view are expressed within a writing’s words and sentences. This is the case, for example, of Edgar Allan Poe’s poem “Annabel Lee” and Emily Dickinson’s poem “Because I could not stop for Death.” Both poems focus on the same theme of death, but while Poe’s poem reflects that death is an atrocious event because of the suffering and struggle that it provokes, Dickinson’s poem reflects that death is humane and that it should not be feared as it is inevitable. The two poems have both similarities and differences, and the themes and characteristics of each poem can be explained by the author’s influences and lives.

There are several places where Dickinson inserts a slant rhyme in “Because I could not stop for Death.” For example, in the in the fourth stanza words chill and tulle again with third stanza she uses a slant rhyme between the words ring with sun “at recess- in the Ring...setting Sun.” Also, in the other poem “I heard a fly buzz – when I died” has several slant rhymes one of them is in the first stanza, room rhymes with storm “In the room…of storm” (lines 2-4) and exact thyme that is in lines 14 and 16 with words “me” and “see.” Personification is another similar...

No two poems are ever exactly the same. This can be shown in two of Emily Dickinson’s poems “Hope” is the Thing with Feathers and Because I could not stop for Death. If you take these two poems and compare them you will find some similarities, but overall there are a lot more differences that set them apart. She may stick to writing about topics she knows like life, nature, love, death, and religion but she makes sure that the detail in each one is different and unique. In “Hope” is the Thing with Feathers and Because I could not stop for Death there are difference in the speaker, theme, and imagery used throughout the poems.
Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost both think that individuality is very important to a person equally like Ralph Emerson. Although they may have a lot in common these poets are different in many ways. Both Frost and Dickinson were American poets and were both from New England. A big similarity between Frost and Dickinson both talk about death. Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost both talk about the power of nature in their poetry. Frost and Dickinson have a reasonable evidence on why human beings should live life to their own agenda but, what if that person cannot stop living somebody else dreams? How can these poems help people break away for society and become a strong confidence individual person?
To conclude, “Daystar” and “To a Daughter Leaving Home”, both shared various similarities and differences regarding symbolism and mood throughout both poems. It was easily seen that even in general societal time periods, the mood of “To a Daughter Leaving Home” was very common. Though, in “Daystar” a lot of the responsibilities of a mother was leased over the years and I believe that more roles in the household are now equal. Poetry in these contexts allow the readers to realize the reality of life taken from a parent’s perspective and maybe some of the changes that it has took over the years. I personally enjoyed reading both poems, because it not only gave me the real life outlook of parenthood, but it shows me how my parents view me and
I am going to compare and contrast “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid and “If” by Rudyard Kipling. “Girl” is where a mother writes to her daughter a list of rules she wants her to live by, however “If” is where a father is explaining to his son the importance of behavior, and how to act around strangers. These two poems are different in many ways such as the tone and the way the parents give the message. These poems are also similar in ways such as the message the parent is giving the child.
The two poems by Chen Chen, “Popular Street” and “Second Thoughts on a Winter Afternoon,” share a similar concept: the complexity of love between the author and his mother. The poems convey the changing relationship with his mother, as the poet grew up; he lost love stability from his mother. As both of the poems begin, they contain numerous uses of pronouns “I” and “you” as Chen converses with someone in the poem. Chen also highlights the usage of meanings in words tend to “age” which leads into confining words with double meaning. Moreover, in “Popular Street” uses a playful and humorous voice meanwhile; “Second Thoughts on a Winter Afternoon” carries a sarrow tone through the piece. Nevertheless,

It is on the grave of someone who hung themselves. They hung themselves for love. The second stanza, again, talks about the nettle moving in the wind. It also describes the man being still in his casket. It tells us that he hung himself over love.
Consequently, after reading and comparing these two poems anyone will find themselves wanting to feel the same passion for loving someone so inextricably. I realize poems can either be written to a specific person or can be more anonymous and only revealing a poem about someone loved so deeply. And that both of these poems use beautiful imagery and symbolism to emphasis and show how dedicated, committed and unconditional their love is and should be cherished above all.
