For several years, there has been a dispute when it comes to the similarities between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the latest vampire infatuation. Many television shows and films have been compared to the iconic vampire slayer. Although, it is The Vampire Dairies that is constantly scrutinized among admirers. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Vampire Diaries have several similarities, but the way each show is written and executed set them apart.
First, one factor within the dispute is, which idea emerged first. Creator Joss Whedon developed the idea of Buffy the Vampire Slayer immediately upon graduating from Wesleyan University in 1987. Joss Whedon's concept wasn't brought to life until five years later in the form of a low-budget motion picture.

Then, being unsatisfied with the outcome Joss Whedon transformed the motion picture into a successful television series in 1997. The Vampire Diaries originated from a popular book saga of the same name penned by L.J. Smith in 1991. The novels were developed into a television series by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec in 2009. Even though the two series has similarities, there are differences within the similarities. For example, both series have female leads, but while The Vampire Diaries has an average teenage girl named Elena Gilbert, Buffy the vampire slayer has Buffy Summers, a teenage girl with special abilities. Buffy's abilities include strength, rapid healing, sensing vampires and agility. While Buffy was briefly turned into a creature of the night due to the students of Sunnydale High School's nightmares coming true, Elena permanently became a vampire due to drowning with vampire blood in her system. Before Elena became a vampire she often relied on her supernatural friends to protect her. While Buffy teamed up with other supernatural beings as well as her friends, she was able to rely on her own abilities to protect herself. Second, having lost the majority of their birth families the main characters in both series created their own families.
Both women have one sibling who has a special quality. Buffy's younger sister Dawn is known as The Key, her blood has the ability to open a portal to other dimensions and, in fact, was not always Buffy's sister. Dawn was created out of the slayer's blood by mystical Monks and sent to Buffy for protection, as a result Buffy's blood is able to close the portal. Elena's younger adoptive brother Jeremy unwillingly became a vampire hunter and developed the desire to hunt his own sister. Jeremy also has the ability to see and speak with those that inhabit purgatory. The characters the women often relied on for emotional support are their vampire boyfriends. Both characters have been involved with two vampires. Elena dated the estranged Salvatore brothers, Stefan and Damon. Buffy was involved with the rebellious Spike and his brooding grandsire, Angel. The two shows also have werewolves who befriended the characters and became an important member of their self-made families. Another similarity is Buffy and Elena both have a male and female best friend, the female companions are witches. Elena's best friend is Bonnie Bennett, Bonnie was born into a family of extremely power witches. Buffy's best friend is Willow Rosenberg, who began practicing witchcraft in high school. Buffy's best friend Xander Harris and Elena's best friend Matt Donovan are both human, but in a way act as the heart of the shows. There is also a father figure that holds both of the families together. In The Vampire Diaries, there is Alaric Saltzman, the boyfriend of Elena's Aunt Jenna, who was tragically murdered in a supernatural ritual. Rupert Giles started out as Buffy's Watcher, sent by the Watchers Counsel to train her, but quickly developed a father's love for the teenagers. Buffy Summers and Elena Gilbert families consist of their supernatural sibling, an older male father
figure, an average, but extraordinary guy, a witch, a werewolf, and a vampire boyfriend. Some enthusiasts of each series will refuse to watch the other while some viewers appreciate both programs. The abundance of resemblances in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Vampire Diaries, as well as other vampire centered entertainment, will continue to fuel the debate.
Here are the flashbacks and foreshadowing. One of the similarities is they both had to do with animals and their parents telling them something. The other is that they have flashbacks of animals. Those are the similarities with flashbacks and foreshadowing.
The characters and society are similar even if the novels have a completely different story. They
In 1997, a new series featuring a female lead aired, it was called Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This show became popular instantly and to this day it still remains popular, if not more. This series was named by TV Guide critics as “one of the fifty greatest TV shows of all time”, because of its feminist portrayals (Heinecken, 91). Buffy the Vampire Slayer was created by Joss Whedon due to the fact that he felt bad for women in horror films, he felt like their depictions were almost always sexist. Whedon quoted that the show he has created depicts, “the joy of female power: having it, using it, sharing it.”, which is important to show to women of newer generations (South, 35). What made Buffy so special was that there was finally a female character that was at

The futuristic aspect of these films seems to be the main theme that connects the two films, but there are of course many other similar aspects that these films share, such as gender roles and the idea of masculinity v.s femininity, which we touch upon as class discussion when we’re talking about the film Blade Runner. ...
Hideyuki Kikuchi’s novel, Vampire Hunter D, is brought to life when it is produced into an anime film. Both are filled will the same action and intriguing plot. It was two years ago on a cold, frosty March morning. I was scrolling through the various selection of movies and tv shows that Netflix offers and one particular series caught my eye, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The series first aired in 1997 and ended in 2003 with a total of 7 seasons. Watching the series helped me tremendously with life by seeing the characters go through difficult situations themselves. They touched on a lot of situations that other tv shows do not. There are multiple characters in the series that are great role models and a lot of people could learn a lot from them. The more I watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer the more I fall in love with the show.
The history of vampires has gone way back to around 586 years ago when they were created. The first real named vampire was the Romanian prince, Vlad Tepes, but he wasn’t known as the vampire who drinks blood. Tepes is known as “The Real Dracula” because of his taste for the blood of his enemies. The fictional Dracula was created 120 years ago in 1897 by the author Bram Stoker which caused many other movies, television shows and books to follow it including The Vampire Diaries. The Vampire Diaries was created by Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson and aired as a tv show in 2009. From Count Dracula to The Vampire Diaries the perception of vampires have changed drastically such as the way people believe they look, as well as their abilities, and how
Vampire literature has changed drastically over the centuries. The old vampire is a blood- thirsty, emotionless monster; this is seen, for example, in the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker. The new vampire, the sympathetic vampire, is more open-ended. The new vampire does not represent evil or the devil, but what is suppressed in modern society. The supporters of the old vampire want Dracula to be a monster. The supporters of the new vampire on the other hand like it to be a beautiful creature that does not want to hurt people (Kristjansdottir “Vampire in Lit.”).

Harry Potter and Twilight are both wildly popular book series. Harry Potter written by J.K. Rowling follows a young wizard through his discovery of his wizardry, education in magic, and avenging the death of his parents. Twilight written by Stephanie Meyers is about a teenaged girl who falls in love with a boy from school only to find out he is a vampire. Both books were developed into films. Twilight’s plot revolves around romance, while the Harry Potter series has recurring themes of friendship, bravery, and sacrifice. Harry Potter not only has a deeper, more interesting plot, but also teaches valuable morals and life lessons.
There have been many myths of vampires around the world for centuries. These very by culture and can be quite intriguing. Now movies on the other hand take vampires and manipulate these myths to fit their stories. Now there are many things that are different from the movies in comparison to folklore. Which include how someone can become a vampire and the characteristics of one as well. Also there is to consider the way people defend themselves from these creatures. Vampires in movies are almost always viewed as humans who have been turned or came back from the dead. Well in folklore this is not the case and are often believed to be supernatural. The comparison of folklore and movies will show a major difference in how vampires are viewed in modern society in contrast to the dark past of vampires.
