Imagine a world where you are stuck in an arena, several times the size of a football field, and you are with about fifty teenage boys for as long as you live. Well, lucky for you, that is the world which is The Maze Runner. Yes, The Maze Runner, by James Dashner, is a fictional society, but there are real life civilizations that fall too, such as Germany in the Nazi era, Sierra Leone, and Ancient Rome. Societies can crumble down and burn due to corrupt leaders or government, lack of crucial resources, and a diminished security.
Even though it takes many aspects for a society to fall, a very large part of the downfall is corrupt leaders, or a corrupt government. Corrupt leaders, such as Adolf Hitler, could lead to the downfall in certain communities.
In the action-packed novel, The Maze Runner, the corrupt leader isn’t “corrupt” because of certain extenses of ridicule to the people; but because the leader of the arena the story takes place in, The Glade, takes control of the civilization forcefully. This leader, Alby, gets very ill because of a attack from nature, or should I say an attack that could end their society once and for all, and loses his power due to unatural thoughts and phrases coming from him. A sustained community with a centralized government would just elect a temporary leader if they believed he would fully recover, or just vote a new leader and let the old leader recover or die. But The Glade was no ordinary government, to say the least. Since they were just a group of teenage boys(and one girl), they didn’t know how to set a government, much less how to elect a leader. They would most likely just tell Newt or Gally to lead them, even though they didn’t have a lot of experience with electing leaders bec...

... a burnt cookie. Unless we decide to follow the path to victory, and learn from our mistakes, every ounce of hope we have in society will diminish, right under our feet. I suggest to everyone that we all take notice in what is happening to our society and learn how to fix the cracks and straighten out the creases. Don’t let your society fall, leaving all the crumbs of what’s left, and leaving the people to clean it all up.

Political corruption can lead to the downfall of societies because when citizens find out, they won’t have any respect for their government/leaders because of the bad things they do. Lack of respect can cause riots/outbreaks in cities.
As you can see there are many reason why a society can fail or get destroyed and it can perpetuate destruction of a society also. When people don’t question authority and when they are ignorant or naive it can lead to the destruction of a society as seen through the two texts of Night and Fahrenheit 451 we can see that it is clearly evident that the destruction of a society is clearly happening if these to are evident.

The Holocaust is a topic that is still not forgotten and is used by many people, as a motivation, to try not to repeat history. Many lessons can be taught from learning about the Holocaust, but to Eve Bunting and Fred Gross there is one lesson that could have changed the result of this horrible event. The Terrible Things, by Eve Bunting, and The Child of the Holocaust, by Fred Gross, both portray the same moral meaning in their presentations but use different evidence and word choice to create an overall
The Maze Runner is a 2014 mystery/science fiction film that can be viewed from an archetypal perspective. An archetype can be described as a pattern that can and is copied and recurring symbols or characters. The concept of archetypes came from Carl Jung a psychiatrist who believed that all cultures use archetypes to build stories without communicating to each other about them. Two groups of archetypes are the character and symbolic archetypes. The film The Maze Runner should be analyzed through an archetypal perspective because it has character and symbolic archetypes.

Corrupt leaders and the governments laws are a major factor as to why societies fall. The society depicted in Maze Runner was very top heavy in and outside of the maze, and mainly controlled by this association who went by the name of W.I.C.K.E.D. Nazi Germany fell almost because of the same thing, their leader Hitler hungered for power and basically made it so whatever he said was law.The evidence of a collapsing social system is very evident throughout the story Maze Runner. For example “‘Gardens-where we grow crops...Blood house-Where we raise and slaughter the animals...’The grievers will kill you all-one every night till it’s over!’”(Pg. 43 and 256) This shows that they need people to do their jobs and the society inside of the Glade was very dependent upon whether or not they have people to work in places like the blood house, and that without enough people to support everyone else by doing their job the society will collapse very quickly.

A famous philosopher named Aristotle once said, "He who is unable to live in a society, or who has no need because he is sufficient for himself, must be either a beast or a god" (Moncur ). Ever since the first humans, people have sought to live and grow where other people are. This organization of people living together as a community is called a society. For the members of it, society furnishes protection, continuity, security and identity. Without a society to be a part of, man is nothing. Therefore, if a man comes into conflict with his society, he must either accept these differences or be destroyed. This nightmare comes to life in Chinua Achebe's novel Things Fall Apart, when the main character, Okonkwo, clashes with his society's beliefs. The conflict that exists between Okonkwo and his society is what ultimately leads him to his downfall.
Great societies when key areas are not strong, such as the laws that the leader made were unfair, citizens living on the streets with little food, water, and shelter, and the wars that they went through. The bad laws of these governments were, treating the minority unfairly. Making their laws a lesser of the majority. Also treating lower social ranked people with not as many right or unfair rights( getting taxed higher). The wars destroyed areas. After losing a war, you have to pay the taxes that the war has caused. Also your area of land is destroyed. Poverty of citizens make your economy look poor. Putting people out on the streets, and not doing anything about. These are the main key points of why great societies fall.
Societies are widely portrayed across literature as groups of people living together in an organized community while sharing a similar culture. However, not all societies have developed properly to be classified as civilized. A civilized society is one that has been brought to a stage of social, cultural, and moral development, causing it to be considered more advanced. In the novel, Things Fall Apart, author Chinua Achebe depicts the Ibo society as civilized through their egwugwu justice system, worshipping of a spiritual Oracle, and patriarchal dominance.
