The Greek heroes, Theseus and Perseus, are unique from each other because of the personalities and achievements. They were both assisted by gods in the journeys and have killed fierce enemies with there help. Perseus is the ruler of the Tiryns kingdom and son of Olympian Zeus and mortal Danae making him a Demigod. On the other hand, Theseus is the king of Athens kingdom and son of the former ruler of Athens, King Aegeus and Aethra making him a mere mortal. Although both are great Greek heroes, Theseus was more heroic and more intelligent than Perseus. Theseus and Perseus are both heroic, for example, when Theseus was 7 years old, He saw a lion skin coat and thought it was a real lion and attacked it with an axe. “It looked so alive …show more content…
Theseus shows this when he faces a quest “Theseus slew data sets by stretching him out upon the large bed until he was even with the bed's length” (Myth, 246). Theseus establishes his intelligence, and figures out why short men must sleep in a large bed. Perseus proves his intelligence as well “The grey-eyed goddess told him to polish his bronze shield until it shone like the sea sunset, for he would need it to kill Medusa without looking at her.” (Myth, 204). Theseus determines more intelligence than Perseus because of the way he handles a situation when he meets the last villain, Damastes. He figures out they would beat him with a hammer or stretch his weight on the bed. Theseus already notices and escapes from it. His early adventures benefit the city and region of Athens, helping in the union of the Athenian power through smart political maneuvering. He also led the Athenian army on many victorious campaigns. Perseus is somewhat intelligent, but he gets the support and does not do anything by himself, he always has companions with him. Perseus creates a bronze shield which kills Medusa. Theseus proves he is intelligence by doing all the work and handle the situation easily without being fearless. Comparing two heroes Theseus and Perseus with the two-character traits, heroism, and intelligence we could all see who is braver due to the way they complete the tasks. Theseus was more heroic as a child and still is and he was also quick thinking and more intelligent than Perseus. How would you relate yourself to the real-world Theseus who is a strong and intelligent or Perseus who is more
One of the main similarities in ancient Greek epics is that there are always great heroes who overcome many difficult and daunting challenges and goes on long adventures. The issue of heroic stature and the character of the hero have a great importance on the epics itself. Classical Greek heroes are usually born to do great things, go on epic journeys and in the end they would receive a reward for their troubles.
A Greek myth by Alisoun Witting, “The Hero’s Test,” is about the son of Aegeus, who is the king of a monarchy, that shows that he has strong attitudes, abilities, and actions. Theseus showed he has a great attitude when he arrived at Crete and did not complain even though he did not have a plan. Although he was a kid, he just decided that he would sacrifice himself to the Minotaur, a psychopathic bull and man, and did not even think about it. Then he got on the ship and left his father, who also ruled an autocracy, to save all the Athenians.Theseus proved that one of his strongest abilities was quickness. The Minotaur tried to charge at Theseus, but he was too quick for the Minotaur. Then the Minotaur tried to force Theseus into a corner,
These two stories are so different from each other they just have two things for each section that are the same. Heroes Every Child Should Know is a more interesting story of how to kill Medusa. Perseus the poem isn't that good because it just has a part of what how to kill Medusa it is just that he had a shield and just chopped her head off. So the rest of the paragraphs are just to say the similarities and differences. Perseus is different by many things the characters, settings, event, and the theme.
Although the heroic journey of Odysseus and Luke Skywalker resemble one another with similar heroic steps, the difference in Odysseus’s journey distinguish him as the exemplary epic hero.
In Odyssey, Homer creates a parallel between Odysseus and Telemachos, father and son. The two are compared in the poem from every aspect. One parallel was the quest of Telemachos, in correlation with the journey of his father. In this, Odysseus is developed from a childish, passive, and untested boy, to a young man preparing to stand by his father's side. This is directly connected to the voyage of Odysseus, in that they both lead to the same finale, and are both stepping-stones towards wisdom, manhood, and scholarship.
To begin with, there are many examples of Odysseus using his mental strength over his physical strength. To illustrate, in book 9 Odysseus and his crew is faced with an unmerciful Cyclops named Polyphemus. Odysseus and his men were subject to watch their own be smashed to pieces and ate as a meal by the Cyclops - helplessly. Odysseus restlessly thought of a plan to rescue himself and his men, but if he just killed the Cyclops, he and his remaining men would never escape the Cyclops monstrous cave. Therefore, as he witnessed his crew’s lives end, he reverently devised a plan to escape the Cyclops cave. He finally conjured an ingenious plan. Odysseus fills the Cyclops with fine wine; however, his most ingenious aspect was what he spoke to the Cyclops, “you ask me my name…my name is Nobody” (Homer IX, 365). This was the most important aspect because after Odysseus stabbed the Cyclops eye out the Cyclops screamed, “It’s Nobody’s treachery, not violence that is doing me to death” (IX, 408). So, obviously with ‘Nobody’ attacking the Cyclops, nobody came to his aide. Odysseus an...
It is an universal acknowledge that Theseus is a Greek hero, mentioned in myths by people. Which he volunteered to be a tribute and sacrifice to the Minotaur, in order to kill the Minotaur . At the end he successfully slew it with Ariadne's help who fell in love with him and promised to marry him.
The perfect image of a true hero is Beowulf. His courage and confidence seems to come naturally. He is the ideal man; he puts others before himself and has amazing physical and mental strength. He is so revered that he can boast about his achievements without seeming vain. “I had greater strength on the sea, more ordeals on the waves as any other man.” (Luizza 69)

There has been much debate on who is the greatest hero of the ancient world. There has also been much dispute on which is the greatest epic poem of the ancient world. However, comparing The Aeneid to The Odyssey is entirely a difficult task itself. Odysseus' journeys, both physical and emotional, are essential in the overall work because it defines The Odyssey as an epic poem. Aeneas also shares a similar experience as Odysseus as well. Both stories are similar in countless ways because they both undergo comparable experiences on their travels and their life journeys. With that being said, they both demonstrated leadership in their own way. However, it is difficult to determine who the best leader actually is. Both men exhibit great leadership skills; therefore, causing a challenge for some in determining which the greater epic is. After analyzing both texts, it is possible to conclude that Aeneas is the better leader, but The Odyssey is the greater epic.
The study and telling of Classical Mythology has endured throughout the ages. The many myths of classical Gods and Heroes have been told and retold from generation to generation, not only through word of mouth but also through various written accounts. However, in saying this, it is also quite apparent that these stories have changed various aspects to suit the generation in which the story is told. One major example of this is the myth of Perseus. When comparing ancient myth of Perseus to modern day adaptations, like those of Clash of the Titans, it is clear that many aspects of the myth has transcended through the ages; however, other aspects have been reshaped significantly to conform to the values of the current generation.
something heroic. Perseus has done a few things that make him a hero and I am going to explain those things. Perseus is a Greek hero mainly for three things. First off, he killed Medusa who was a Gorgon that could men into stone by making eye contact with them. Her hair was also made out of live snakes.
Odysseus, the protagonist of the Odyssey by Homer fits the outline of an epic hero because he is courageous, quick-witted, and a natural leader. Odysseus isn’t only known for his muscles, also his clever mind. He is one of the great heroes that possesses both brains and brawn. He is also a hero with outstanding skill and bravery. It is no wonder why many teachers refer to Odysseus as a powerful hero. I believe Odysseus is a hero because he is clever, can overcome obstacles, is very brave, a leader but like all great heroes, he has his weaknesses.
Perseus was a Greek hero who was an extremely typical hero. Perseus adequately displays most of the qualities of a typical hero throughout the story of his life. The hero motifs which are directly displayed in the legend of Perseus are his extraordinary birth, his conquering of monsters, the semi divine worship of Perseus after death, his enemy opposition, the cooperation of both gods and humans, the rewards Perseus receives, and his categorization into heroic roles. Perseus’ birth was extraordinary in many ways. First a prophecy foretold that Danae, Perseus’ mother, was destined to have a child who would kill Acrisius, Danae’s father.
Next, the second hero was actually really good friends with Achilles, and fought alongside him, this is Odysseus. If you didn’t know, Odysseus was also a great warrior; he fought with courage and strength. He wasn’t afraid to fight any man, he should have though. Odysseus was also the ma...
