The Stance of True Love in A Midsummer Night’s Dream

The stance of true love in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is fake because the characters in the play were not truly in love. It was Puck who placed the love juice on Demetrius and Titania’s eyelids. When they woke up, they would fall in love with the first living thing they saw. It was not really their heart’s desire. Another couple that supports false true love in “A Midsummer Night’s dream” is Hermia and Lysander. Hermia did not trust Lysander when they were in the woods.

The first reason why I believe the stance of of true love is fake in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is because Oberon sent Puck to make Demetrius fall in love with Helena. Helena was the first person Demetrius saw when he woke up after Puck rubbed the love juice on his eyelids. Before Puck did this, Demetrius treated Helena terribly and he thought she was being overly annoying. When Puck rubbed the magical love juice on Demetrius, he could have fell in love with anyone, as long as that person was the first person Demetrius saw. Helena was just lucky to be by his side at the right time, for Demetrius could love anybody. …show more content…

He sent Puck to rub the love juice on Titania just like how he rubbed it on Demetrius so he would fall in love with Helena. Titania’s love for Bottom was not true, she would not have fallen in love with Bottom if she was not under the spell. Furthermore, Oberon only commanded Puck to rub the love juice on Titania because he wanted the skilled boy that Titania kept.
