Known as the father of the modern detective story, Edgar Allan Poe was certainly one of the most important writers of his time, the horror atmosphere of his tales continues unrivaled in American fiction. But his work in poetry and short-stories is as famous as his controversial personality. Poe was an orphan child, how dealt with death and loss since his early days and used this as an inspiration for his work and as an excuse for his drug addiction. Particularly fond by absinthe, Edgar was also a user of opium and other substances and this lifestyle lead him to all kind of illness and a mysterious death.
Edgar Allan Poe died on Oct. 7,1849 in the Washington College Hospital, three days after being found wandering the streets of Baltimore, raving and incoherent. His final days and the what exactly cause of his death remain unknown, but it has been the subject of interminable speculation. Led by these speculations James McTeigue, recreates Edgar’s last days in the movie The Raven, making it as obscure as his tales.
