Comparing The Parents To Blame For The Death Of Romeo And Juliet

In the story of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, “A pair of star crossed lovers take their life” (Prologue.6). In a small town of Verona, Italy. Blaming someone for the death of Romeo and Juliet will be a hard decision for the small town of Verona. The people to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet is Juliet’s parents Lord and Lady Capulet, the Nurse, and Romeo himself.
First, the people to blame are Juliet's parents, Lord and Lady Capulet, for driving their own daughter away. Lord Capulet says to Juliet, “Hang thee, young baggage! Disobedient wretch / I tell thee what-get thee to church Thursday / or never after look me in the face” (III.v. 161-163). He doesn’t care about his daughter’s feelings when he calls her very terrible things Lord Capulet says that she is a disobedient

daughter and that she doesn’t appreciate what he does for her. Capulet also plans a wedding between Juliet and Paris after Romeo’s banishment; which does not help with Juliet’s futile feelings. Lady Capulet doesn’t help Juliet either. When Juliet begs for her mother to talk to Capulet about changing the date of the wedding, Lady Capulet shoved Juliet away and said to just go through with the original plans. Also, in the beginning of the story, Lady Capulet calls for Juliet and tells the Nurse to leave, but then has her come back. Showing that Juliet’s mother doesn't know a whole lot about her own daughter.
Someone else that is to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet is the Nurse. After Lord Capulet tells Juliet that she will marry Paris on Thursday the Nurse tells Juliet, “Faith, here it is. / Romeo is banished; and all the world to nothing. / That he dares ne’er come back to challenge you; / Or if he do, it needs must be by stealth. / Then, since the case so stands as now it doth, / I think it best you married with the County. / O, he’s a lovely gentleman! / Romeo’s a dishclout to him” (III.v. 215-220). Nurse is basically turning her back on Juliet by telling her Romeo will never come back and that he is not as good as a man like Paris; then telling Juliet that she needs to marry Paris. Even though the Nurse also raised Juliet, the Nurse is a little untrustworthy after telling Juliet to marry Paris. Then by calling Romeo's a dishclout didn’t help Juliet feel better at all.
Another character to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet is actually Romeo himself.

When Romeo is talking to himself before he drinks the poison to kill himself he says, “Thou art not conquered. Beauty’s ensign yet, / Is crimson in thy lips and thy cheeks, / And deah’s pale flag is that advanced there” (V.iii. 94-96). Even though Romeo says that Juliet doesn’t look dead compared to the poor Tybalt, who is lying in peace right next to Juliet, he still goes through with the plan of killing himself. When Juliet wakes up, she sees Romeo dead and tells Friar Lawrence to leave. When Friar leaves, Juliet then kisses the body of Romeo, hoping to extract poison from his lips. After without any luck, Juliet then kills herself with Romeo's dagger. None of this would have happened if Tybalt didn't kill Mercutio and then having Romeo killing Tybalt then Romeo would have never gotten banished for this. After he got banished everything went downhill from there. Romeo’s poor mother even passed away from sadness after his banishment. It broke Lady Montague’s heart when she could not take care of her young Romeo anymore, and she fell into a deep depression before desperately passing

away.
Overall, Romeo and Juliet cannot be punished for their acts because they are already dead, but who should be blamed for their death? The people that should be blamed for the star-crossed lover’s death are Juliet’s parents Lord and Lady capulet, Juliet’s caretaker the Nurse, and last of all Juliet’s own husband Romeo. I believe that Romeo and Juliet can be blamed for their own death but cannot face punishment but who else should be blamed for the downfall of the true love of Romeo and Juliet.
