Recommended: Movie Analysis
During my free time I enjoy watching movies. Netflix is one of my favorite programs to watch movies. They have many movies from all genres that interest me. Some of my favorite movies are based on true stories or are filled with lots of action scenes. However, I do have some memorable movies that seem not be forgotten because of great performances. Therefore I will analyze the films Invincible, Batman, and The Fast and the Furious. By implementing the terms protagonist, anti hero, and epic. Furthermore, in the film Invincible Andy plays the role of the protagonist. A protagonist is the main character in a novel, play, and movie. The protagonist can also be involved in a competition, conflict, or cause. Andy was on the verge of being invited
from his home. After losing his first job and solely depending on the income of his second Job. Andy was having a tough time paying the bills. Although Andy was on the path to being evicted, his behavior did not show that he had much concern. Andy was calm and relaxed and continued his daily routine of friday night football. Andy had a passion for football and was very skilled at playing the game. Many that surrounded Andy knew he had the potential to go and play professional but Andy did not have confidence in himself. Andy emotions resembled fear and uncertainly. Due to the pressure of his wife andy knew he had to think of a solution to earn money. Andy knew his rent problems would be solved if he made the tryouts for the philadelphia eagles. So Andy showed up to tryouts with lots of heart and made the team. All in All, Invincible represented the term progranist in two ways. The first was by focuses its attention on one individual but also by establishing a problem in the movie. In addition, Vin Diesel who plays the role of an antihero in the movie XXX. An anti hero is a central character in a book or play, who does not have the usual good qualities that are expected. In the film XXX Vin Diesel plays the role of a daredevil who goes by the name Triple X. Triple X lives by the code you only live once and some of his stunts have caused him trouble with the law. Triple X is taken into custody and is threatened with prison time. Instead he agrees to a deal that involves him helping the NSA catch a criminal. Triple X actions are not for the good of helping apprehend a bad guy but to save himself from being incarcerated. Therefore, triple is characterized as a anti hero he lacks good qualities in doing the right thing for the right reason. Instead he does all the right things for the wrong reasons. Lasty, an epic is defined as a style of filmmaking with large scale, sweeping scope, and spectacle. The Fast and the Furious would be considered an epic because of its large scale. There's is a total of 7 movies in this epic with an eighth movie coming out. Each movie has a connection leading on to the next movie. An epic can also have elevated style. All the movies made from The Fast and the Furious have an devious end signifying there's more to come. The style that flows through out the epic has meaning between movies. For example The Fast and the Furious 6 Dominic Toretto and his crew are after a guy named Shaw. The movie is filled with action and excitement. At the end of the movie Dominic Toretto and his crew kill Shaw. Before the movie ends there is one last scene that films Shaws brother Ian with a face reaction that symbolizes revenge. Then comes The Fast and the Furious 7 which is about Ian and his dedication to kill Dominic Toretto and his crew. This movie sequence has an elevated style that represents another movie to come.
In “The Thematic Paradigm,” University of Florida professor of film studies, Robert Ray, defines two types of heroes pervading American films, the outlaw hero and the official hero. Often the two types are merged in a reconciliatory pattern, he argues. In fact, this
Willie, the antagonist of the story accidentally makes Bobby overcome his fears and stand up to him. In a way Willie could be a protagonist because he helps Bobby overcome his fears. Willie is a crazy person that doesn't know what he is doing.
For this project, two films were viewed. The first one is Annie, a film made in the early 80s about a girl in an orphanage. She is then brought to live in a mansion for a week with one of the richest men in this world. He doesn’t like her at first, but he learns to love the little girl, and adopt her. The second film, Cinderella man, is about a boxer who loses his job after he breaks his hand during a match. He is then left to fend for his family. He begins to slowly rise up as a boxer and fight again, much to his wife’s distaste. For this project, I will discuss the similarities and differences between the films, and the time period, setting, and characters. Annie is the first film.
In “The Thematic Paradigm,” Robert Ray explains how there are two vastly different heroes: the outlaw hero and the official hero. The official hero has common values and traditional beliefs. The outlaw hero has a clear view of right and wrong but unlike the official hero, works above the law. Ray explains how the role of an outlaw hero has many traits. The morals of these heroes can be compared clearly. Films that contain official heroes and outlaw heroes are effective because they promise viewer’s strength, power, intelligence, and authority whether you are above the law or below it.
The word protagonist comes from the Greek word protagistes, meaning “One who plays the lead role.” The protagonist is forced to adapt to various conditions, and overcome many obstacles. A separate character or an omniscient narrator usually tells the protagonist’s story, but the protagonist himself can also tell it. While there is normally only one protagonist, there can more than one antagonist. The antagonist is the character that opposes the protagonist, and is usually responsible for the obstacles in his way. One common literary technique that is often used to rapidly change an audience’s viewpoint on a story is the use of a false protagonist. A false protagonist appears to the reader as the main character (the protagonist), but is suddenly removed from the picture completely. This removal is often accomplished by killing the false protagonist.
The dominant factor in an epic is the heroic main character. This character often is the son of a god or goddess and is favored by the gods. Heroic characters are also always hounded by constant tragedy which drives them to fulfill their fates. Most heroic characters are high in social status and share close contacts with the gods. All of these qualities of heroic characters show up in the characters of Aeneas from The Aeneid and Gilgamesh from the Epic of Gilgamesh.
The road movie embodies the human desire for travel and progression. The vehicle of journey is a contemporary metaphor of personal transformation that oftentimes mirrors socio-cultural desires and fears. Thomas Schatz believes that one “cannot consider either the filmmaking process or films themselves in isolation from their economic, technological, and industrial context.” This statement is especially applicable to the independent American films of the late sixties, a time of great political and social debate. Easy Rider (1969) was considered a new voice in film that was pitched against the mainstream. In the 1960s, there was a shift to highlight the outsiders or the anti-heros in film. This counter-cultural radicalism seems to have also influenced the 1991 film, Thelma & Louise. The characters of both films act as figures of anti-heroism by rebelling against the conventional and unintentionally discovering themselves at the same time. Despite their different backgrounds, the protagonists of Eas...
Definition: “An epic hero is the larger-than-life character in an epic--a long narrative poem about important events in the history or folklore of a culture. The epic hero demonstrates traits that are valued by society. The character’s traits can be communicated in narration as well as through dialogue.”
Any generic film hero is a model of their community and culture. They help to clearly define and outline the community’s values and cultural conflicts by embodying prime characteristics in their persona. The western hero, like Ethan in The Searchers, is always a figure for civilization amongst the savagery of the wild west. By portraying the roles of a civilization, the hero ...
The Fast and Furious franchise has been going on since 2001. Since then there have been seven movies to come out. Fast and Furious 7 may be the last movie in this series. With the actor Paul Walker, Bryan in the movie dead, there may not be any other way to produce another film. With that said, I thought the movie was very good and well thought of when coming to filming the rest of movie without Paul Walker and digitally having his face put in. In some scenes near the end of the movie you can tell that something is off and seems a little weird when looking at Paul’s character but aside from that it was a brilliant job done by the
Being a hero means that one can show courage when it comes to facing a problem. It is a person who helps others in many ways, such as a person in danger. In the modern era, the creation of superheroes have become popular when it comes to producing films. Viewers can choose their favorite heroes due to the idea that there a many of them. However, both superheroes share similarities and differences between themselves. Batman and Iron Man have
Any fan of Batman knows that “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” are two of the best Batman films made in the seventy-eight years that Batman has been around. The plots really make you look deep in yourself and show the true and more real sides of the characters of the Batman world. These two movies are the first two in the dark knight trilogy, created by the amazing Christopher Nolan. These movies were heavily praised for their astounding realism to the real world, and its pros and cons. But they were also extremely liked for their possibility for
The Reasons Behind the Popularity of Action Films In this essay I am going to explore the conventions of action films and their popularity. People love action films, and when they go to see one there are conventions you would expect to see in the film All plots of action films are based on the same outline, Hero and villain meet, there's a disruption of order, and mission, then everything is sorted out when the villain dies and everything returns to normal. There are Stock characters that you expect to see in this genre of film, the hero, the villain and two attractive ladies. The main action is around a male hero, however, modern films have featured female heroines for example Angelina Jolie in 'Tomb Raider'. If the hero is male he is always good looking, intelligent, brave, chauvinistic, and manages to escape from life threatening situations, however the hero will always have a weakness, and if the hero is male the weakness is normally women.
The main character is a hero is his strong moral and strength. In the course of the plot, the hero is charged with a quest. He is tested, often to prove himself and moral stand’s worth through the quest. The cycle must, then, reach a point wherein the hero decides to give up or appears conquered. This is followed by a resurrection. Lastly, the hero overcomes all of his fears, doubts and defeats. He also regains his rightful place in the social structure. The anti-hero rejects this idea from the very start as the anti-hero does not have a moral stand. He sets his own rules and fights his battles on his own terms.
