In the book Fences by August Wilson, Wilson shows argument between the American dream and how to achieve it. Troy realizes his mistake by trying to go to a baseball game but couldn’t because his skin color stating “I done learned my mistake and learn to do what’s right by it”(Wilson 18). But then he went over to try to achieve the American dream by saying “ I get up Monday morning… find my lunch on the table. I go out. Make my way. Find my strength to carry me through to the next Friday” (Wilson 40). Leaving Troy to thinks that in order to achieve the American dream you had to be white. In Fences Troy is seen trying to provide for his family by working as a garbage man while living in a small house. Miller shows connection in the movie Death of a Salesman, showing Willy trying to provide for his family, by working as a businessman. Troy started out by playing his favorite sport which was baseball, which was something people played back then in order to achieve the American dream. People thought that they can chase the dream so easily not knowing how hard it was to chase. This lead Willy to try to teach Biff that following the right path will lead him into a good life, a better life than he ever had. Biff ended up losing that opportunity by following his dreams playing sports. All Willy wanted was his family to be happy. But Bernard had the most success throughout the book.
