Comparing Orville And Wilbur Wright

Orville and Wilbur Wright are two brothers who had worked hard all their life by innovating new ideas and concepts trying to change the world. Orville and Wilbur lived in the same house, they worked together six days a week, ate their meals together, had similar physical features, and they even had both of their money in a joint bank account. Wilbur was forty-two years old, he was tall and not very neatly dressed most of the time, while his younger brother Orville was thirty-eight, very handsome and young looking, and always dressed in tip top shape. Both of the brothers had the same gray blue eyes and they also had similar handwriting. They were from Dayton, Ohio and loved to play music of their own. Wilbur played the harmonica and Orville played the mandolin. Even though their musical talents didn’t get them far, their first business did.

The Wright brothers started their own printing shop in a carriage shed behind their family’s house.

They began printing ads for local businesses and worked their way up to publishing a few books for local writers. Soon after they published a few books, their parents passed away in the year 1894 of old age and outrageous fever. The brothers were left with the family house and property in Ohio and the estimated worth value was $1,800. Orville and Wilbur decided to take the money and open up a bicycle shop in Dayton. By 1897 the brothers were in full business at a business location at 1127 West Third Street, Dayton, Ohio. The business was going better than ever until downtown Dayton had the worst flood in forty years and wiped out almost everything they

had.

After all of their salvageable belongings were put together, they didn’t have much between the two of them and they moved to an old family house in the country a little bit outside of Dayton. The house used to belong to the Grandfather and has remained in the family since he died of a boating accident in 1887. Orville became fascinated while watching the birds fly across the open country sky and land every once in a while. He started thinking of how they do it and decided to make a small model. Once Orville had several small models of these birds and their moving wings, Wilbur knew he caught onto something. They were sightseeing at a mountain near where they lied in the country and Wilbur wanted to drop one of the small models off a steep drop and the brothers noticed it would glide through the air for a while instead of just dropping. This is when the brothers went to build a life size model of a “glider”, which would do what the model bird did except this was a manmade contraption.

Instead of losing all the models in the trees, Wilbur and Orville decided to go somewhere open and with more ground wind to fly the gliders. The Wright brothers ended up in Kitty Hawk, Outer Banks in North Carolina. While Orville kept building models and testing them on the sandy dunes of the Kitty Hawk beaches, Wilbur made a trip back to Dayton to get more materials.
