Nelson Mandela’s story or Mahatma Gandhi’s eulogy? In my opinion, both of them are great, but Gandhi was the one who persuaded me. They both challenged the brutality they faced in their home countries, but in different ways. They both have different stories. In Mandela’s story it explains how he couldn’t serve his obligations. In Gandhi’s eulogy it talks about him being a great person and how he helped a nation of Indians.
To start off, Nelson Mandela explains what his family had to go through, he explains the harsh system he had to obey and how he couldn't serve his obligations. It states in paragraph 7, “In South Africa, a man that tried to fulfill his duties to his people was inevitably ripped from his family and home and was forced to live apart, a twilight existence of secrecy and rebellion.” This piece of information shows that many fathers and men get taken away for trying to serve their obligations. They both had challenged the oppression they faced in their home countries. Mandela shows how he got locked up in jail for trying to have freedoms. It states in the text, “ It was as simple and yet as incomprehensible as the moment a small child asks her father, “Why can you not be with us?” And the father must utter the terrible words: “There are other children like you, a great many of them. ..“and then one’s voice trails off.” This shows that the apartheid pulled fathers away from their children. Gandhi explains that how he tried to save his country and how he always expected the best from his people. It states, “It is almost doing him an injustice just to pass him by with words when he demanded work and labor and sacrifice from us; in a large measure he made this country, during the last thirty years or more, attain to heights of sacrifice which in that particular domain have never been equaled elsewhere.” This shows that he and his people had to work really
