There are many servant leaders in this world , but there were only two that really stuck out to me. Those two people would be Martin Luther King Jr. and Malala Yousafzai. The reason they stuck out to me is because they both fought for what they believed in no matter the consequences They both have so many qualities that make them amazing servant leaders. A few of them that I will be talking about is empathy, awareness and commitment to the growth of people. These three qualities really do tell you the type of people they are. The last quality would be commitment to the growth of people This is a big quality with any of the servant leaders but mostly martin and malala because they both wanted to see a change in things and in the people. Martin wanted to see growth in everyone being equal. malala wanted to see the growth in women being able to get an education. To see all women bettering their life, doing what they wanted without being told they can't do anything. That they're limited to what they know and what they do. To be a servant leader you have to have certain qualities. Not only have the qualities but actually have a meaning behind what you're doing or saying. You have to be fighting for something that you feel very strongly about. Try to make this world better in anyway you can. Martin and malala both have all the qualities to be a servant leader and they both had meanings behind what they were fighting for. Martin Luther King Jr. and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were two pivotal figures who fought for what they believed in. These great leaders came from vastly different backgrounds which is shown in their thinking on life, especially early on. Martin was a Christian from the rural south, whilst Malcolm had become a Muslim from the urban north. King called for love of your neighbor, integration and nonviolence, which was part of his American Dream. Malcolm X called for self-love, separation, and "by any means necessary", which was part of his Black Nationalism. Throughout their lives their views were constantly changing, largely affected by each other, but also by the many events in their lives. Malcolm X forced King to become more radical and to look into the problems of the urban north. King made X become more politically active and work much more with the Civil Rights Movement. Although many have often said that they were "like oil and water", these two men, however different they may have seemed to be, had the same goal. They wanted to end exploitation, discrimination and racism. Also, for both, religion was primary in defining their lives and ideals. There are two distinct phases in their political lives. For King, the change in his outlook came when he looked at the social problems of the urban slums, and the extent of racism of his previous allies. Although president Abraham Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation in 1862 that gave an end for slavery, white people persisted in oppressing and segregating black people. Life was segregated between blacks and whites: Black people had separate schools, restaurants, theaters, and even transportations. As the oppression increased, some black people started to refuse such harassment. Thus, many movements and marches were launched to bring equality for blacks (Patterson).
Primary service is the key. Many view this as a contradiction because the leader is leading and serving. How can a person do both? Good servant leaders are good listeners. The communication between the leader and the follower being served allows the leader to listen to the follower first, in order to understand what the other person has to say and to understand their needs. These leaders practice empathy as well. Understanding what the follower is facing or feeling is comforting to the follower because it validates their importance to another person. The ability to heal a person through care and the concern for a person’s well being is another quality of a servant leader. These are only a few of the characteristics that generate a strong servant leader. Mother Teresa said, “The miracle is not that we do this work, but that we are happy to do it.” Her words describe exactly what servant leaders do. Servant leaders serve others willingly because they find joy and pleasure in doing so. The outcome of serving others in this manner is growth and social impacts for a greater good. Servant leadership is becoming a more “sought-after” concept in today’s society, but what exactly is servant leadership? Does it mean different things to different people? Although the three books, The Servant as Leader, The Servant, and Lead Like Jesus, all center around servant leadership, each author takes a different perspective on the meaning of being a servant leader. Robert Greenleaf addresses leadership from a straight-forward stance; saying that a good leader must be a servant-first by finding the will within themselves to put the needs of their group before their own. James Hunter discusses servant leadership through a story involving everyday people that the reader can relate to. He uses Jesus as a guide to explain how to initiate character development that will, in turn, fashion servant leadership. Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges offer a new perspective on servant leadership by bringing Jesus into the picture on an even deeper level than Hunter. Two of the most influential Civil Rights activists were Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Both men were fighting for racial equality. However, some of their tactics were controversial. Both Dr. King and Malcolm X died for their causes, fighting for justice up until their last breath. Some of their methods were successful and some were not. In brief, both Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X used varying tactics to get their cry for racial equality heard.
They believed in this dream so strongly, they sacrificed their lives for it. Today, both men's legacy lives on and is being carried out by their loved ones. They had the same goal in mind about Black respect and pride, but were different in addressing their message. Personally, the life of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King has inspired me. Their determination and strong will to fight for something they believed in encouraged me to fight for my belief in God and values as a Black person.
Their main purpose was to help instill black’s power and strength so that they could overcome racial disparity and prejudice that surrounded them, but both of them had very unique and distinct different ways of promoting their message. Martin was more geared and focused on equality and wellness of the world as a whole, as Malcolm X’s personal interpretation of the world was very well blinded by anger, bitterness, and the desire to get revenge at the expense of the world that he thought treated him unfairly.
Martin Luther King Jr. and John F. Kennedy were two very commendable men. They were two very different men that I feel had the same incredible amount passion for human beings. Both Dr. King and President Kennedy had such high hopes for this country and regardless of the sad and devastating time era, they both spoke with much poise and compassion. I truly believe they are exactly what this country needed and still needs to this very day.
Two great men that inspired thousands and millions to act on their behalf wither it be bad or good. Their words alone made people feel what they felt with out even meeting them. These two men were vastly different form one another but in some ways acted similar. They both led movements and large amount of people to act in ways that they would not have with out them to give them a push. Lets see what these two men that some would call one amidst some of the most inhumane people in the world and the other to be a breaker of chains and father to the civil rights movement.
One of the main qualities that both these heroes had was courage. The reason for this is that there were many bad things that happened in their lives, and even though it was scary they push forward. Courage is one of the main qualities that people say when asked “What is a quality that a hero should possess?” We all what to be courageous, and when we see a “hero” being that, it makes us believe that we can be too. That is another good thing heroes do; they inspire us to, be courageous, to help somebody, or to not give up. "You blaze the trail. When stepping into a leadership role, one must have values, morals, and standards. These characteristics are not taught but developed over time. Servant Leaders must be happy with one self in order to leader others or having the expectations of having followers to develop them in to future leaders or believe in. One must have the characteristics of courage, humility, competency, mentoring, decision making, citizenship, and reflection. Being an educator or role model requires having the skills of a servant leadership is important.
