Today I will be telling you some things that I found similar and some difference that I had saw or spotted in the two movies Lion King & Hamlet. Well do you believe in family over everybody else. Do you think that people shouldn’t let anything get in between family like outsiders. Do you believe in not putting one of your family members in a risk of getting hurt or killing them for something that they have that you want. Now there is a great comparison between Simba and Hamlet you may wonder why I say that well there’s multiple ways that they can compare. Well has we all know when both Hamlet and Simba was going to be the next king because of their fathers royalty. They both had some twist and turns with there life for example on both movies Hamlet’s uncle had killed his father just like Simba’s uncle had killed his father so that he could run the throne or like most people say the kingdom. Another example would be was when they were getting bull rushed by invaders. Another thing they both have in common was seeing their father in a ghost form. Now lets not forget there can be some type of difference between the two like Hamlet didn’t run away from the kingdom while on the other hand Simba ran away from his home because his uncle told him to leave. Now we all know one of the biggest similarities would be that they both killed Simba and Hamlet’s father because they wanted the kingdom. They both ended up bringing down the kingdom when they were trying to take over. They both seemed jealous of their brothers and wanted everything that they had like power because they wanted somethings ran the way they wanted it to be ran how they felt it should be ran. They both wanted to kill their nephew to prevent them from being king. But there are some differences Scar confessed to killing his father while on the other hand Claudius didn’t tell Hamlet that he had killed his
During class we have reviewed many versions of the play Hamlet. The two movie versions that I chose to compare on the play Hamlet are the David Tennant version and the Kenneth Branagh version. I chose these two versions because these were the two that most interested me. I believe that some scenes from each movie were better than the other, but overall I liked these two versions just as equally. The three main scenes that stood out to me that I will be comparing are ‘Ophelia’s Mad Scene’, the ‘Hamlet Kills Polonius’ scene, and Hamlet’s ‘To be or not to be’ scene.
The leading roles in each of the stories had a corresponding role in the other. The corresponding characters shared a number of similarities, but it was the ways in which they were different that determined their fate and that of the kingdom. In Hamlet, the prince is Hamlet. He is in deep grieving of his father’s death. He is angry because he believes that everyone has already forgotten how great of a king his father was. Hamlet does not know for sure who is responsible for his father’s death, but he suspects Claudius who is his uncle and the new king. Hamlet decides that if he can convince everyone that he is insane, then maybe he will be able to get someone to tell him more about his father’s murder. In The Lion King, Simba is the prince. Simba’s father, Mufasa, is killed after he falls from a cliff into a herd of hyenas. Simba falls into a deep depression after his uncle Scar twists things around and convinces Simba that he is the one responsible for the Mufasa’s death. Simba can not deal with what has happened and he runs away from the kingdom.
“Hamlet” and “Johnson” have only a few things in common. Both were written long ago and discuss death of family members. Johnson lost his wife, while Hamlet lost his father. Although the person they lost and how they died is different, the events changed both men’s lives. Both of these men made the choices to act the way that they did which caused their lives to be different.
Hamlet by William Shakespeare is a play about a king that was murdered by his brother who then married the late king’s wife, thus becoming king himself. Due to the importance of this piece of literature, Hamlet has been adapted into various film reenactments of the play. Hamlet is one of the most popular works of William Shakespeare and has served as an inspiration for many directors, who try to make a movie as close as possible to an original play while trying to maintain the main concept. Hamlet started off as a play but has been adapted into many movie productions. Zeffirelli’s version of the play stars Mel Gibson as Hamlet, Glen Close as Queen Gertrude and Alan Bates as King Claudius. This 1990 production of Hamlet shares many similarities as the original play, but also has many differences.
One thing that both of them have in common are that they are the uncle of the main character. Claudius is the uncle of hamlet and scar is the uncle of simba. Both of these characters were not the first born so they were not given the crown and turned evil.
The impression made by a character in a play is one of its most complex and debatable components, for each individual, from the director to the audience, forms an idea based on their own interpretation of the work. Each character can be read differently, with each perception having its own implications beyond the text. The analysis of alternate perspectives of Hamlet can provide insight into possible hidden motivations and underlying plot elements invisible in the original text.
The first similarity I will be talking about between Simba, and Hamlet is the death of their fathers. When Hamlet starts one of the first facts is Hamlet's father had recently passed away, and he is stuck in Denmark. To make things worse Hamlet's mother married his uncle Claudius. Hamlet will come to realize his father was murdered by Claudius, because of jealousy. When The Lion King starts Simba's father is still alive, but the audience quickly comes to realize Simbas uncle Scar is scheming up a plan out of jealousy. The plan is Scars way to become king like Claudius has done. Scar ends up tricking Simba and then furthermore killing his father by letting him fall to his death.
The characters in The Lion King are extremely similar to those in Hamlet. Simba, the main character in The Lion King is the equivalent to Hamlet, He is the son of the King and and next in line to the throne. The King of the Pridelands, Mufasa, is the Hamlet Senior character, who is killed by the uncle role. In The Lion King, the uncles name is Scar, and in Hamlet, the uncle character in Hamlet is Claudius. Laertes, is depicted as a henchman and right-hand man of Claudius, in the movie the Hyenas, Bansai, Shenzi, and Ed play this role. The Hyenas are Scar's followers/worshippers, who are loyal to Scar, and act as henchmen doing his dirty work. They support Scar one hundred percent, like how Laertes supports Claudius in the same way. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are the more comical characters of Hamlet, and in The Lion King, this role is taken on by Timon and Pumbaa the meerkat and warthog. Both sets of characters are similar matching one another, complementing each other, they complete each other's sentences as well as act as caretakers to Hamlet/Simba, and are humorous to the point of being absurd.
The similarities of Fortinbras and Hamlet includes the death each of their fathers. King Fortinbras was killed by King Hamlet and King Hamlet was killed by King Claudius. Therefore Fortinbras and Hamlet have both lost their father due to someone else killing them. Another similarity is both of Fortinbras and Hamlet’s
Hamlet and Antony & Cleopatra are quite dramatic plays, they require an in depth look since they are significant in their own ways. Both of them have quite a lot of similarities and differences altogether. In terms of themes specifically they both have quite similar themes, ones that can be analyzed psychoanalytically and are represented and portrayed in a variety of different ways using characters, imagery, etc. These are quite interesting ways of portraying certain themes or ideas. Shakespeare with the help of these assets could properly project many ideas to the audience and appeal to them psychologically. Three major themes that are psychologically dominant and unique but present in both plays would include the constant struggle between reason vs. emotion, betrayal, and love being a strong asset. There is quite a bit of chaos present in both plays this is all due to the struggle between reason and emotion, this struggle puts quite a lot of characters in dilemma’s, causes quite a disruption in characters lives etc. a small example of this would be how in Hamlet Ophelia lost in Hamlet’s love and in despair goes crazy and eventually dies. In Antony and Cleopatra it is noticed that Antony abandons all military reasoning and the fact that he is indeed a “military hero” and pursues his love for Cleopatra. Thus is the idea of reason vs. emotion present. Betrayal is also present in both plays, although it is presented and portrayed quite differently. In Hamlet betrayal is quite an essential and obvious theme. Specifically in Hamlet betrayal is what further thickens the plot and arises many situations alike. King Claudius for example is known as a murderer and betrays his brother King Hamlet by intentionally murdering him. Hamlet sees ...
With Simba gone Scar is the next lion to rule the thrown. In the play after Hamlets father is killed by hands of his brother, and Claudius marries his wife and that’s how he became the new king. When the Ghost of the fathers appear they are seen in different parts of the movies, one appears in the beginning telling his son who killed him and to get revenge. The other one shows in the middle of the movie to encourage his son. There are events that happen in both stories but at different times just like when the new King tries to kill the son of the late king. Towards the end of the play the King tries to get rid of Hamlet by sending him to England to supposedly help him, but it was to actually kill him. In the beginning of the movie Scar convinces Simba to run away and never come back and then sends hyenas to attack and kill him so that he could become
The story of The Lion King and the tragedy Hamlet are parallel stories. Both journeys take the recalcitrant protagonist through the loss of their fathers’ and on a journey to discover who was there to seal their fathers’ fate. Once the characters learn that the said person is one of their own family members they realize that in order to restore order they must avenge their fathers’ deaths. This decision would not have been made without the madness that both Simba and Hamlet face to face with.
Hamlet’s morals tell him killing his uncle is wrong, and simba feels responsible for the death of his father so he does not want to return home. Another strong theme is revenge and corruption. Both uncles in the stories are blinded by power and go as far as to kill their own family and the only solution both protagonist seem to find is revenge for the murder of their father/parents. One last theme that can be found is justice. Both characters feel the need to take matters into their own hands, which is necessary to a degree, instead of going to higher authorities or seek help from other people instead of acting alone. Hamlet’s notion for revenge nearly drove him insane. Though they do receive some justice in the death of their uncle, Hamlet being the original adult version of the book end with the death of all the royalty family. The Lion King being a movie designed for children ends with the demise of
The Shakespearean playwrights Macbeth and Hamlet are both very well-known tragedies. They have many things in common but are different in some ways. Both plays involve greed but the characters are different. There are some characters that have the same qualities such as Hamlet and Malcolm who both killed for revenge. Macbeth and Hamlet are different in character even though they both killed. The tragedies are the same in that many people are killed but the reasons are very different. Macbeths need for power has caused him to lose control while Hamlets need for revenge causes him to lose his own life.
Two of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, Hamlet and Othello, share a number of similarities. In Hamlet, Hamlet’s father is the King of Denmark. This does not last long because he is killed by Hamlet’s uncle, named Claudius. Claudius then claims the throne and marries Hamlet's mother. Hamlet is full of hatred for his uncle’s scheming and full of disgust for his mother's sexuality. He is later summoned by his father in ghost form who tells him to avenge his death. Throughout the play, Hamlet is given opportunities to take revenge against his uncle, but instead he contemplates his actions and never acts. This is often seen as Hamlet’s tragic flaw, which apparently leads to his death. In Othello, Othello the main character, also fails to take action
