In these lines, Shakespeare has Juliet talking to Friar Lawrence about her not wanting to marry Paris because she wants to be a faithful wife to Romeo. This shows us that she and Friar Lawrence are planning something so that Juliet won’t marry Paris and remain faithful to Romeo. Although, they are planning something Juliet fears for her dead but she goes with the plan because she loves Romeo and only wants to be with him. In these lines, Shakespeare has Juliet talk about the vial. Juliet is talking to herself whether or not if she should drink the vial. This allows us as the audience to hear her inner thought and trying to predict if she will decide to drink it so that she will not have to marry Paris and wake up with Romeo next to her.
Friar Lawrence in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet "We still have known thee for a holy man"
The reason why the Friar gave Juliet the vial is because Juliet was forced by her father to marry a man named Paris. Lord Capulet says to Paris “A’ Thursday let it be –a’ Thursday tell her, she shall be married to this noble earl.” (Act III.iv.20-21). What her family does not know is that she is secretly already married to Romeo. Juliet decides to go to the Friar for advice on what to do about her situation, and one thing leads to another and the Friar tells her to drink a poison. “Take thou this vial, being in bed, And distilling liquor thou off;” (Act IV.i.93-94). The poison will make it seem as if she is dead. If the poison works as it is supposed to then after forty two hours she will wake up. “Thou shalt continue two-and-forty hours, And
In Romeo and Juliet by william Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet are in love but there parents don't approve of it. The lyrics of “Rude” by Magic say, “Or we will run away To another galaxy you know You know she's in love with me She will go anywhere I go”. The lyrics explain how if their parents don’t give their blessings then they will run away to be together regardless what their parents’ opinions are. To me the lyrics remind me of friar Lawrence’s plan in the novel. For example, when Romeo and Juliet's parents didn't accept their marriage Friar made a plan where Juliet has to experience “a thing like death” to
The Friar says that Juliet’s only option to get out of marrying the County Paris is to kill herself. His encouragement invokes the idea for Juliet to drink the potion. Trusting Juliet with a sleeping potion and the idea of killing herself showcases his rashness and that he is incapable of being a true friar. When giving Juliet the potion, after invoking the idea of killing herself, he trusts Juliet will follow through with his plan.
When he says "Shall Romeo by my letters know our drift, / and hither shall he come; and he and I/ shall watch thy waking, and that very night/ shall Romeo bear thee to Mantua" (IV.i.116-119), his intention is clearly to comfort and reassure Juliet. Unfortunately, for all his good intentions, the play still ends in tragedy. Friar Lawrence is a man who is not afraid to take risks to help someone; as, in Act 2, Scene 6, when he marries Romeo and Juliet, he is risking his reputation as a Friar, so he can help the two lovers. Also, when he says, "Take thou this vial, being then in bed, / and this distilled liquor drink thou off" (IV.i.95-96), he is suggesting that Juliet drink a potion so that she might feign her own death and avoid marrying Paris.
Despite his initial disapproval, Friar Lawrence agrees to secretly marry Romeo and Juliet in hopes that “this alliance may so happy prove/ to turn [their] households’ rancor to pure love” (II.iii.98-99). Although Friar Lawrence has good intentions, as he does not gain anything from the marriage, by supporting Romeo and Juliet’s infatuation, his actions will eventually create more harm than benefits, as it allows their impulsive behavior to persist. By marrying Romeo and Juliet in secret, it is evident that Friar Lawrence knows that the wedding is a bad idea, but due to his indecisive personality and the inability to make a solid choice, Friar Lawrence blindly follows through with the marriage. In addition, he does not analyze the consequences of his actions prior to his agreement to marry them, only to later express regret and warn Romeo about the dangers of their infatuated love and their impulsive behavior. Friar Lawrence’s indecisive personality is evident in his soliloquy through the excessive use oxymorons in between rhyming

After talking to the Friar, he hands Juliet the potion that is the sub... ... middle of paper ... ...'s impossible for her to be with Romeo as well as her family. She is choosing Romeo over her family by drinking the vial, as she does finally drink the potion after repeatedly chanting Romeo's name. She had got herself into such a state, but she has regained calmness by this point (the rhythm of the lines returns to the original rhythm, showing that she is no longer hysterical).
Had Friar Lawrence not been involed with Romeos and Juliets decisions the story may not have had a tragic ending. In William Shakespeare’s play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence should be blamed for the death of the two main characters. The first mistake Friar Lawrence does, is secretly marrying the two lovers with out the parents consent right after romeo had just loved his "perfect" Rosaline. Then, he agrees, to the Capulet’s, to marry Paris and Juliet. Lastly, the worst mistake was he giving Juliet the sleeping potion. All of his actions combined lead to the main character’s suicidal action.

Juliet is to drink a potion to make her appear dead, and later wake to be free of the shame of marrying Paris. Here, Friar Lawrence is assuring Juliet that he will send a letter to Romeo, explaining their plan. Romeo doesn’t receive that letter, and he does not know what is to happen. Free will comes with great consequences. Friar Lawrence and Juliet inflicted their own wounds by not telling Romeo of their plan. If they had taken the time to make sure that Romeo got the information, their plan might have succeeded, and Romeo and Juliet would be free to marry each other. A greater power than we can contradict hath thwarted our intents. (V, iii, 154-155)
Friar Lawrence is one of the most important characters in the play, Romeo & Juliet.
When Romeo was exie,Juliet was forced to get married to Paris which he does not want to.That day Juliet came to Friar Lawrence asking him for help, and if he refuse to help her,
When Romeo talks to Friar Lawrence asking Friar to marry Juliet to Romeo that is of free will. Romeo does not have to marry Juliet so soon, they are in love so it, being married, will only do. Romeo could have waited longer to get married to Juliet but both wanted to get married the day after meeting. Friar Lawrence asks Romeo of the love that was for Rosaline, “Is Rosaline, that thou didn't love dear, So soon forsaken? Young men’s love then lies Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes?” (3. 2. 66-68). Friar Lawrence is wondering about Rosaline because did not Romeo go around crying that Rosaline did not love Romeo back. Now Romeo has a new love with Capulet’s daughter Juliet whom Romeo is going to marry. Friar Lawrence feels as if there
This is Friar Lawrence’s final warning to Romeo and Juliet before he married them. He cautioned them not to rush into their marriage as they had just met a few days prior. Their love for each other was fleeting and immoderate, and while their decision to get married felt like a good idea at the time, they would regret it later.
