Socialism is a response to capitalism, and it is a concept that individuals cannot have privately owned land, business, or money and the whole working community controls the factors of production. This system would lead to equality in work, and also helps the less successful people which means that the wealth is distributed equally even people who are not that successful. Communism is a branch of socialism as well, but they differ as communists believe in violent revolution and it is controlled by a government, whereas socialism does not believe in skipping steps and it runs by working class. The main aim of socialism is to improve social justice and to narrow the gap between the poor and the rich, and to believe in equality in everything. …show more content…
The workers who want to work hard can’t work for the betterment of themselves, as they have to benefit the whole community and even the poor people. Plato creates a “metaphor of the metals”, which would help people to fit into the community, can recognize their profession and excellence. Gold represents abstract intelligence, silver represents practical intelligence and lastly, the base metal represents physical intelligence. But in the system of socialism, this wouldn’t work because socialist economy takes away the wealth from the successful people; it demotivates people to work hard and very strongly encourages poverty. Hard work has no reward in the system of socialism. There can’t be any form of development in the society under socialism as it discourages change and innovation; but instead wants to have a simple society with workers providing services and doing what their best at to benefit the whole community. Another defect in socialism is that, it discourages private property rights and most of the property is publicly owned in which government owns everything and guarantees to distribute wealth equally among the community. There is no free market
... Mainly a reaction against the unregulated capitalism of the time, socialism proposed that society as a whole should control the means of production, and that the government exists only to oversee its initial phases and then to become nonexistent, leaving the people to govern themselves cooperatively. This movement was inspired by the problems that the Industrial Revolution presented for the common worker. Working conditions, long hours, and low pay made many workers want to band together and achieve a socialist system. Socialism is still important today for several reasons. For one, it helps secure the rights of every citizen and resident unknown. Second, it promotes equality in numerous areas, including economic, political and social forces. Third, it offers a chance for all people to attain medical insurance coverage, regardless of financial or social status.
...es. By adapting socialist ideals into a capitalist economic and social system a prosperous society results.
A Comparison of Communism versus Capitalism Communism versus Capitalism is a debate that has raged on for over two centuries. Whether to allow everyone equal opportunities and to do with those opportunities as they please or to mandate class equality in order to keep peace has in itself been the cause of war. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels saw the working class of the world—the proletariat—being squashed by the greedy business owners—the bourgeoisie. In their view, the bourgeoisie owned too much and the proletariat had no chance to make their own fortunes. In Marx and Engels Communist Manifesto, they propose doing away with private property, nationality, and even countries in order to take power away from the bourgeoisie.
Marxism, Socialism and Communism have the same idea in common, the abolition of private property and Utopian Statism, a Far Left agenda. Marxism theorized that once the workers took over, government would wither away, but it did not. Socialism involves Marxist ideas and radical wealth redistribution and all property is seized by the government, this collectivism would cause multimillion slaughters, such as that of Hitler, Stalin, Zedong. Communism, where government is fully in charge of a new totalitarian state, has everyone working the benefit of everyone and government, almost always at gun point. Of all of these beliefs of equality and getting even with “the man”, all of them result in the abolition of liberty and individualism.
Socialism was designed to strengthen the gains of the social revolution. By the ideals of Orthodox Marxism, it claims that a socialist revolution in a country must by followed by similar revolutions in the advanced industrial countries to survive.
In other words, a socialistic government wants the wealth of the nation spread out in such a way that the money is equally distributed among the country's citizens. Socialism is in favor of tearing down the class structure and forming a classless society. In this way, it was born out of Marxism, whose founder was Karl Marx. Leaders of the Communist Party of the Soviet
Communism is an economic system where, in theory, ownership of everything (e.g. goods, industrial products, businesses, farm produce, etc.) is collectively by the Government and the payment of income is only based one’s need. In communism, individuals have little say or on say at all on what to produce, not even owning anything since ownership is only by the Government. Communism is a socio-economic structure based on classless, stateless society where the means of production are on common ownership. Therefore, communism is the idea of free society where there is no divisions, humanity is not oppressed, no need for Government or countries. A citizen earns according to their needs and gives according to their abilities to do so.
Socialism is basically the opposite of liberalism because it appeals to the working class and worked in countries with authoritative governments with large presences in their countries economy. Russia and Germany are two of the countries socialism absolutely thrived in. The working class appealed to this ideology in government because it balanced everyone, made everyone equal, by giving everyone the same wage. So a manager of the factor would make as much as a janitor in the same factory. Under Russian rule Jews were treated as aliens. The Russians would form pogroms or riots so that jews would flee Russia. This was one of the examples of anti-Semitism, or anti-judaism in Europe. Jews were considered evil and were chased out of many towns and villages because of their association to money. And with the new government reforms if money was bad then jews had everything to do with it. These ideologies have helped shape the world in the place it is
For Plato, each metal represents a specific class in society: “ ‘but the god who made you mixed some gold into those who are adequately equipped to rule, because they are most valuable. He put silver in those who are auxiliaries and iron and bronze in the farmers and other craftsmen.’ ” (415a). This class system is a tiered system: gold is clearly on the top, silver is in the middle and iron or bronze is at the bottom. Plato argues that this tiered system will create a just society. In order for this ideal society to function properly, the metals must work together toward one goal. Additionally, Plato broadens the myth of the three metals to represent individual peoples as well as society as a whole. The three metals represent more than just social class. Plato contends that the metals are an extension of the inner character of people in the society. Therefore, society will run perfectly when individual citizens are aware of who they are and accept their given role in
Socialism is a social and economic system where the means of productions are shared indivisibly throughout the community or enterprise rather than in the names of a few individuals. Or more simply put Socialists believe that the Chief Executives of a corporation are not the ones who deserve the big pay check. They believe that the working men and women deserve more money because they are they ones out in the field doing the work. The main goal of socialism is to more evenly distribute the wealth. They care more about having more people living comfortably than just a few individuals getting wealthy. Socialist ideas in todays politics are what they believe will make it easier for Americans to live in America.
Both Capitalism and Socialism want the same thing but have different ideas on how to obtain it. That thing is a strong and prosperous country filled with happy and hard-working people. Although the goal is the same the approach is different just like how different people come up with their own ideas on how to solve the
While there are certainly arguments against socialism, the arguments against it outweigh. Socialism is better because it allows for the government to provide for the basic needs of all citizens—this is impossible in a market economy, and outweighed by the negative aspects of a command economy. In a time of great national economic and political turmoil, it is important that a consensus be made as to the best economic system for the U.S. and the rest of the world. In my opinion, this best system is socialism.
Socialism can be defined as an economy wherein all the resources and the means of production of the economy are owned by the community as a whole and there is an equitable distribution of the goods and the wealth. According to Socialism, people of the economy do not live or work in isolation, but they live as a whole in cooperation. In a Socialist form of system, the goods and services are provided through a central system of government ownership and not private ownership. Everything that is being produced by the people in a Socialist system is a social product and, hence, every individual who contributes in the production of goods is entitled to a share of it. Therefore, based on how much a person has contributed in the society, everyone receives
Socialist theory is difficult to apply practically, because it relies on the idea that everyone will work together happily if given the chance, and that nobody will commit crimes or be lazy. While socialism tends to assume the best of people, capitalism assumes the worst, saying that only the very best will make it to the top, not accounting for the fact that many will cheat or inherit their money. Capitalism assumes that some people are simply better than others, and that the upper class is living a better life because they worked for it and earned it. Communism assumes the opposite, saying that the members of the lower class are inherently better than those in the upper class, because they have worked harder over the course of their lives. Marx may have said this because he was from Germany, a country that was non-democratic at the time, where the rich generally inherited their wealth rather than earning it.
