The bubble-like dome keeps the water out of her house because she cannot survive underwater. When she leaves her house, she wears an atmospheric diving suit which allows her to go underwater while maintaining an internal pressure of her preferred atmosphere. Sandy knows she cannot survive under the sea, so she has adapted by living in a bubble-like domes and wearing an atmospheric diving suit in the water. Bikini Bottom is located at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Specifically, it is located in what is today known as the Marshall Islands. The Marshall Islands are located to the northeast of Papua New Guinea. The absolute location of the Marshall Islands is about 7°N, 171°E. The Sea Needle in Bikini Bottom, Pacific Ocean. The Sea Needle is the tallest monument in Bikini Bottom. The Sea Needle is closely related to the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada. Background: A childish, joyful sea sponge who lives in a pineapple and has a pet snail named Gary. He works as a fry cook at the Krusty Krab, and attends Mrs. Puff’s Boating School. It is believed that Spongebob and some of the other inhabitants of Bikini Bottom got there as a result of Nuclear testing. The theory is that the explosion made the city of Bikini Bottom and some of the bizarre creatures. Brief History: No one knows where Spongebob moved from in order to arrive at Bikini Bottom. When he first moved to Bikini Bottom, he viewed many different houses, but didn’t like any. Out of nowhere, a pineapple from a boat above the water fell into the sea and landed next to Squidward’s house. Spongebob loved the pineapple house and bought it immediately much to Squidward’s dislike. Background: A selfish, turquoise octopus who lives between Spongebob and Patrick. He works as the cashier of the Krusty Krab, a job in which he absolutely loathes. He has at least 492 self-portraits and believes that he is beyond talented, especially at playing the clarinet. He tends to display an unjustified air of superiority. Cultural Traits: Squidward has an interest in classical music. He often plays the clarinet and considers himself to be talented. Squidward prefers a more relaxing, quiet genre of music. Squidward is also one of the few residents of Bikini Bottom that has an interest in television. He mainly watches the Clarinet Channel, a channel about music and clarinets. Cultural Traits: Although Squidward watches more television than most of the inhabitants of Bikini Bottom, he also finds exercise to be important. Squidward exercises by dancing and riding his bike to work. Spongebob and Patrick find more joy in riding seahorses, but Squidward believes it is important to get exercise. Brief History: It is believed that Squidward was relatively happy, but ever since the pineapple house fell out of the sky, he has been grumpy. During the series, he moved to a town filled with other octopi who shared his tastes. However, he gets bored with doing the same thing everyday and moved back by Spongebob and Patrick. Background: An intelligent and level-headed squirrel from the state of Texas. She is a multi-talented scientist and inventor who focuses on sea creatures. Sandy is very athletic and enjoys fighting Spongebob in the art of karate. She has been shown to have a strong competitive streak and a high opinion of herself. Cultural Traits: It is believed that Sandy Cheeks believes in a Christian faith. She loves Christmas and tells Spongebob all about the holiday. Sandy has a extreme interest in science. When she lived in Texas she worked at a science-based company that sent her down to Bikini Bottom in order to study the sea creatures. She has many inventions and believes science to be more than just her job. Cultural Traits: When Sandy moved to Bikini Bottom from Texas, she brought over her love for karate. Sandy and Spongebob will fight each other in karate every now and then. It is Sandy’s main choice of physical activity, as it is her favorite sport. Brief History: Born from Ma and Pa Cheeks, and has a twin brother named Randy. Sandy was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and eventually moved down to Bikini Bottom. Sandy moved to Bikini Bottom because she worked at a company, Treedome Enterprises, which wanted her to study the undersea life in Bikini Bottom. Sandy does get homesick and sometimes considers going back home. Brief History: Sandy speaks with a heavy Southern accent and uses typical Southern slang words and phrases, such as “howdy” abd “y’all.” Sandy is employed by a trio of chimpanzees from the surface, named Professor Percy, Dr. Marmalade, and Lord Reginald. Sandy is very proud of her Texas background and takes great offense when Spongebob and Patrick make fun of her because of it.
In this section of the book, "Wave", we are introduced to Sam and his family who are off to Thailand for their Christmas vacation. This is the first year that Sam's older sister Beth isn't able to go, this makes his mother upset and leads to an almost constant worry for her daughter. The most prominent of these characters is Spongebob Squarepants, a personified sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea, in a town called Bikini Bottom. He spends the majority of his time working as a chef at the Krusty Krab, a fast food restaurant run by a greedy crab named Mr. Krabs. Spongebob’s neighbor and co-worker, Squidward Tentacles, has a very cynical view of life, constantly complaining about Spongebob and praising the clarinet and other arts. Across from Spongebob lives his best friend, Patrick Star, a starfish known for little intelligence and extensive sleeping. Most episodes, he and Spongebob act on a new idea which leads to various consequences. Sandy Cheeks, a squirrel from Texas, sometimes joins Spongebob and Patrick in their adventures. While the show is marketed to children, it has many qualities suitable for teenagers and adults including occasional sophisticated humor and philosophical references. The Galapagos Islands and Madagascar compare and contrast in many ways. The Galapagos Islands are made up of twelve smaller islands with larger cliffs. Madagascar is one full island on the coast of Africa with vast ranges of mountains. The Galapagos is in the Pacific and Madagascar is in the Indian. They are both very similar even though they are located on opposite sides of the world. The two islands have unique species of animals and plants. The Galapagos and Madagascar both show evidence of evolution.
