Throughout society, the perception of superheroes was formed by human imagination for one to model him/herself after, also known as a role model. However, thoughts and opinions about superheroes have changed through years, which has caused the classic hero and the modern day hero to have some pretty obvious differences between them; for example Beowulf and Michael Jackson. The epic poem “Beowulf” was one of the first works of English literature, it explores his heroic actions between the battle with, Grendel, Grendel's mother, and the Dragon. He was born and grew up in a strict working family in Gary, Indiana. As early as 5 years old Jackson showed an interest in music along with most of his family. He began his music career as the lead singer of the Jackson 5 which consisted of him and his four brothers, this was how MJ pathway to fame was founded. He created many songs that inspired people throughout the world which changed the music industry forever. In this time period, he was diagnosed with having a rare skin pigment disease called Vitiligo which turned his skin brighter. The media claimed that he bleached his skin color, also claimed that he was sleeping in an oxygen chamber. The scrutiny and backlash he received from the media steered farther away from the public eye. Captain America is a well known by many for his patriotism, bravery, and strength. Beowulf has many similarities and differences compared to a modern day hero such as Captain America.
This essay is the comparison between Beowulf and a modern day hero. I consider any American soldier to be my modern day hero. In this essay I will explain in three paragraphs of how my modern day hero is like Beowulf. With in these three paragraphs I will go over how they are both fighting for a good cause, how they are both rewarded for what they do, and how they are both treated with much respect.

This hero definitely brought peace to many people, and if it wasn’t for the mighty hero Beowulf, the Anglo-Saxons would have been terrorized forever. Therefore, the times were hard before Beowulf, the Anglo-Saxon warriors always stood for three values, and the time was changed without monsters.
Superman, Spiderman, and Batman are heroes! They possess the two traits that are needed in western civilization to be considered a hero: wisdom and fortitude. These modern heroes have wisdom and fortitude. Did Beowulf possess these traits? Beowulf shows he is a hero through both his wisdom and fortitude throughout his adventures. There are many superheroes in the world with many different abilities. Many people would argue that many heroes are connected by some point or another. A hero not only needs to be physically outstanding, but he also needs to have integrity, moral values and needs to act without thinking in his own benefit. A true modern hero is able to set aside fear and act on the matter at hand, which signifies the quality of courage. Being Courageous can set you apart from others, because you are willing to carry out actions that are beneficial for the greater good. Most of us have heard of modern day heroes such as Spiderman, Superman, and the Hulk. Each is a hero to many children. Heroes are introduced to people early on in life usually as fictional characters, but as children grow older their perceptions of heroes alter. When I think of society’s modern heroes today the fictional characters of Batman and Spiderman come to mind because they protect the lives of the people in the communities from the bad guys.
