To me, this verse portrays the “spirit” of worship talked about in John. Here we see that the centrality of worship is a love for Christ which compels a response in thankfulness, and singing. This is also accurately describes my experience with worship. For me, worship does not lie within any certain act or ritual, rather, it is an outward expression of a joy felt within. The truth of the Gospel fills us with an uncontainable joy which we then express in teaching, singing, thankfulness, and, ideally, everything that we do. Through researching published sourced from people who identify as Muslims, I learned a lot about Islamic worship. There is a lot of similarity in the words spoken in Islamic prayers, and the words sang in Christian worship songs, however, Christian worship songs normally try to follow more of a poetic and melodic structure—like the Psalms. Through comparing Christian and Islamic worship, we can see that they agree in many ways on what worship looks like. Both agree that worship is something that must be done continuously—so that one keeps their eyes toward God—both agree on reciting prearranged words of adoration toward God, and both agree that thankfulness and humility is involved in the process of worship. Islamic worship is extremely planned out. The position of your body must be a certain way at certain times—which includes facing an exact direction. Things recited must be recited in a specific language, and at a specific point. A specific number and order of steps must be followed. Christian worship, on the other hand, takes no universal form. The things recited, in song, are done so only by relevance within the song. Worship can be in any language, and in any body position. Worship is very much an individual concept in the Christian church in this way: some people may worship on their knees; some people may worship standing; and whether or not you have your hands in the air, or you are jumping or standing still does not matter in Christian
