Compare and Contrast Essay
Zlata’s Diary” by Zlata Filipovic and “The Diary of Anne Frank” by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett both have very similar qualities. From surviving the war to keeping all their day to day thoughts in a journal, Zlata and Anne are alike in many ways. Zlata’s Diary is about a thirteen year old girl who is forced into hiding from the bullets of a war that broke out in her hometown. The Diary of Anne Frank is about a girl named Anne who ends up having to stay in captivity for a long time as well. The only big difference about Anne and Zlata is that Zlata could still go outside when the war started. Zlata never had to dream about seeing the stars like Anne did. The Diary of Anne Frank and Zlata’s Diary is pointed out as two very similar books because Zlata went through so many similar situations as Anne, this is the reason for why Zlata was usually known as the “Anne Frank of her time.”
Anne Frank was an ordinary thirteen year old girl. The main problem Anne faces is when she finds out that Hitler has taken over and she finds out she has to stay in captivity. Some main events that affected Anne’s life was when she found out it wasn’t gonna be just her family living together but also a family called the Van Daans and and a dentist named Mr.Dussel.

In the beginning of the novel, Anne starts off as an annoying, talkative little girl but over the course of time Anne starts to mature, she starts to realize that she might be in captivity for a long time so she tries to act nicer to others. The main problem Anne faced was never really solved, her family ended up getting caught and were sent to concentration camps where everyone died except for Mr.Frank. Zlata Filipovic is an eleven year old girl at the time. She finds out that a real war is going on in Dubrovnik, guns are being fired and some of her best friends are even getting killed. One main event is when she has to go into the dreadful cellar for multiple occasions just to survive. In the beginning of the book she is a talented, bright young lady, at the end of the book she starts to discover the meaning of things, Zlata Filipovic starts to understand that she doesn’t need the answers to everything, she refuses to like politics and the cellar she hides in, she also refuses to give up and let the men with guns win. The problem is resolved when Zlata and her family move to Paris. Zlata and Anne both never understood war, their questions about politics and people taking over so quickly was never something they thought about.
Both characters kept a diary for everything that happened to them. Zlata and Anne also named their diaries, Zlata’s was named Mimmy and Anne’s was named Kitty. In Zlata’s Diary she says “Since Anne Frank called her diary Kitty, maybe I could give you a name too.” The difference in Zlata and Anne is that Anne actually ends up dying in the end and Zlata ends up being saved. A quote from The Diary of Anne Frank shows Anne saying “If you should find this diary, will you please keep it safe for
me.” And a quote from Zlata’s Diary says “And then...the lights of Paris appred.” These topics show how similar and different Anne and Zlata are. Zlata was known as “The Anne Frank of her time” because of all these reasons. In the end, Zlata and Anne both end up living very different lives. Anne dies in a concentration camp and Zlata moves to Paris. Even though Anne and Zlata didn’t exactly go through all the same things, the readers of the book still got to imagine how each character handled their different situations.
To start Anne Frank and Jeanne Wakatsuki were very similar. One similarity is that they both lived during World War II. Another similarity is that they both were the youngest in their families. Also, according to Wakatsuki and Houston, Jeanne’s life changed because they were not allowed to stay in their home because she was different. According to Goodrich and Hackett, Anne Frank
My first difference is that Misha Pilsudski (8 yrs Old) doesn’t understand what is going on in his world while Anne Frank understands that something bad is happening and that she should be afraid. On page 22 Misha decides to run up to a Jackboot who is making a Jew clean the sidewalk with his beard while cutting the beard off. Misha says to bring him to where he lives, ( in a barbershop) because
The Diary of Anne Frank is a true story based in Germany. In July 1942 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands Anne, Mr.Frank, Mrs.Frank, Margo, Peter, Miep, Mr.Van Daan, and Mrs.Van Daan were sent to an annex above Mr.Frank's business to hide. They were very scared and fearful for their from the Nazis. They are Jewish, and the Nazis wanted to kill Jews. There are many different similarities and differences.
Anne Frank was a thirteen year old Jewish girl who was forced into hiding in 1942. Her family and another family, the Van Daans, hid in the back of her father, Otto Frank's office building in what they called the "Secret Annex" for the next two years, until they were discovered by a Nazi group called the Gestapo and arrested. It was during her time in the Secret Annex that Anne wrote in a diary that she had named Kitty, telling it of her experiences in the the annex, reported the position of the war and its most memorible events, and shared her personal feelings on the situation. The diary became an outlet throug...
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to live during World War 2? Life during World War 2 was torture if you were jewish, especially if you were a kid. Felix Salingar from Then by Morris Gleitzman and Anne Frank both knew what it was like. Their stories both describe the lives of jewish children hiding from the Nazis, in fear of being taken and killed. Throughout both of their stories, many character traits were discovered about them that show how they are similarly affected by the events in their stories. Anne Frank and Felix Salingar have many similarities, some of which stand out more than others.
The play version of The Diary Of Anne Frank is a play about a young girl and her family hiding from the Nazi’s in fear of being taken to a concentration camp during World War 2. In this play, Anne must adjust to life and growing up in hiding while living with seven other people. While the play is still very popular and enjoyed, there is also a more recent version of this story that is told through a movie to share this story in a more modern way and to appeal to more. In this movie, the audience watches Anne go through the struggles of adjusting to life in hiding and living with a large group of people. Although the play and the movie versions of The Diary Of Anne Frank do have some differences in storytelling and dialogue, both stories have the same conflicts, setting, characters, and life lessons.
Despite several notable contrasts between Anne Frank’s life presented in the play, “The Diary of Anne Frank,” and other accounts of Jewish people in hiding during World War II, the lives of these Jews had more similarities than differences. These people were similar in the way that they lived the same schedule every day. Anne and the other Jews relied on their helpers, who risked their lives willingly, to provide food and other human necessities for them, as well as tried to include aspects of their old lives before the Holocaust into their new lives in hiding. The Jews lived with fear of getting caught by Nazis in the back of their minds. Even though Jewish people may have had different
What if you were a holocaust survivor and asked to describe your catastrophic experience? What part of the event would you begin with, the struggle, the death of innocent Jews, or the cruel witnessed? When survivors are questioned about their experience they shiver from head to toe, recalling what they have been through. Therefore, they use substitutes such as books and diaries to expose these catastrophic events internationally. Books such as Maus, A survivor’s tale by Art Spiegelman, and Anne Frank by Ann Kramer. Spiegelman presents Maus in a comical format; he integrated the significance of Holocaust while maintaining the comic frame structure format, whereas comic books are theoretically supposed to be entertaining. Also, Maus uses a brilliant technique of integrating real life people as animal figures in the book. Individually, both stories involve conflicts among relationships with parents. Furthermore, Maus jumps back and forth in time. Although, Anne Frank by Ann Kramer, uses a completely different technique. Comparatively, both the books have a lot in common, but each book has their own distinctive alterations.
The settings of two very similar stories can make them seem completely different. In a similar way, Sonia and Anne from the novel I Promised I Would Tell by Sonia Weitz and the play The Diary of Anne Frank by Albert Hackett are Jewish girls in the Holocaust who are struggling to survive. Both of their lives are at risk each day and throughout both of the stories, the girls are put in many difficult and dangerous situations and settings. Although these girls are both living in fear of losing their lives, Anne lives in a somewhat comfortable room for the first couple years of her struggle while Sonia is living in a horrifying Concentration Camp.
The Diary of Anne Frank has many themes, including love, youth and isolation. Anne loves Peter, but she is a young girl and she is naive and gullible. She tries to experience something nice in a time of sadness and darkness. She is young, a thirteen year old trying to survive the Holocaust. Also there is isolation, her ‘family’ is living in an attic in the middle of Europe.
A critical point about Anne Frank's diary is that it was written during the years of her adolescence. She struggled with many typical teenage problems- yearning for her own...
In June 1942 Anne received a diary for her 13th birthday. She began to write down her thoughts and experiences in the form of letters to an imaginary friend. One month later the Franks went into hiding in the office building. For the next two years the Frank family shared cramped quarters with four other Jewish people. In the ending the people she lived with were the ones that published her diary.
The Diary of Anne Frank portrayed perseverance in an individual's characteristics in times of despair. It displays that the way you live your life depends on one's perspective and mentality towards the world. Written by Anne Frank herself, this diary conveyed the perspective of a distraught teen living during the Holocaust. Anne writes about her feelings of isolation and loneliness, each diary entry maturing as time passes. Despite her situation that she was put i...
Born on June 12, 1929, Anne Frank was a German-Jewish teenager who was forced to go into hiding during the Holocaust. She and her family, along with four others, spent 25 months during World War II in an annex of rooms above her father's office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. During the two years in hiding which Anne refers to as "a time when the ideals are being shattered and destroyed, when the worst side of human nature predominates, when every one has come to doubt truth, justice and God (pg.327)." Anne kept a diary that was given to her by her father, Otto Frank, on her birthday. Between June 1942 and August 1944, from Anne's thirteenth birthday until shortly after her fifteenth birthday, Anne recorded her feelings, her emotions, and her thoughts, as well as the events that happened to her. "…[I]deas, dreams, and cherished hopes rise within us only to meet the horrible truth and be shattered…yet in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart (pg. 327)."
On June 12, 1929, at 7:30 AM, a baby girl was born in Frankfort, Germany. No one realized that this infant, who was Jewish, was destined to become one of the worlds most famous victims of World War II. Her name was Anne Frank. Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank and B.M. Mooyaart, was actually the real diary of Anne Frank. Anne was a girl who lived with her family during the time while the Nazis took power over Germany. Because they were Jewish, Otto, Edith, Margot, and Anne Frank immigrated to Holland in 1933. Hitler invaded Holland on May 10, 1940, a month before Anne?s eleventh birthday. In July 1942, Anne's family went into hiding in the Prinsengracht building. Anne and her family called it the 'Secret Annex'. Life there was not easy at all. They had to wake up at 6:45 every morning. Nobody could go outside, nor turn on lights at night. Anne mostly spent her time reading books, writing stories, and of course, making daily entries in her diary. She only kept her diary while hiding from the Nazis. This diary told the story of the excitement and horror in this young girl's life during the Holocaust. Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl reveals the life of a young innocent girl who is forced into hiding from the Nazis because of her religion, Judaism. This book is very informing and enlightening. It introduces a time period of discrimination, unfair judgment, and power-crazed individuals, and with this, it shows the effect on the defenseless.
