Women's National Basketball Association came to be years after the NBA; National Basketball Association, both similar and different in there own ways. After decades of debating whether to have woman playing basketball, in 1996 it came to be. Los Angeles hosted the first official game; “The first WNBA game featured the New York Liberty facing the Los Angeles Sparks in Los Angeles. The game was televised nationally in the United States on the NBC television network.” (History, League Founded and Play Begins) But although, the WNBA was a big step for basketball professional women players it still has set regulations, comparisons to the NBA, and a bigger purpose then just

College and NBA basketball aren’t that different they have many similarities and many differences. The main difference is that College has halves and NBA has quarters, The Shot clock is different too. College is 35 seconds and NBA is 24 seconds , The shooting distance is different from the 3pt line. In college you only get 5 fouls before you foul out and in the NBA you get 6. In my opinion College basketball is way more competitive and way more emotional than the NBA.
Women have been playing basketball for over a century before the Women's National Basketball Association came into existence. It was here at Smith College where many women got their first taste of the game. Women were described as having a "masculine performance style... rough and vicious play... worse than in men" (Hult 86). This aggressive playing style had to be modified because the violence and rough-housing that was going on were becoming intolerable. Eventually the Official Women's Basketball Rules were modified in that there was no dribbling allowed on the court at all, players were not allowed to make physical contact with each other and women were not allowed to grab the ball out of another women's hands.
Despite the vast popularity of basketball, there is only one major league in America: The National Basketball Association, to be referred to in this work as the NBA. The NBA was created in 1946, and in 1976 it merged with the ABA to become the premier league in America. The League has expanded over the years and now consists of 29 teams in the United States and one team in Canada, with each team playing 82 games per season
Sports bring friends, family and our country together more so than political debates or even church on Sunday. Whether it be football, basketball, baseball or everything in between everyone has their favorite team that they cheer for regardless if they are the shits or number one. Americans will have gatherings of their friends every week of the season to watch games and “support” their teams from hundreds of miles away. Sports have an enormous impact on our society in every way shape and form, whether it is kids pretending to be their favorite super star while playing in the yard or it is co-workers participating in fantasy sports or making March Madness brackets, but which is the most entertaining, is it the professionals that are paid millions of dollars to play or college kids struggling to get by while trying to earn an education?
Backstory of Basketball Basketball has been played since 1891, and still continues to be played today as well. Basketball is an intriguing game played by 2 teams with 5 players from each team on the court at the same time. Basketball, as it started out in 1891 had no African American athletes in the sport. That was still going on, even as late as the 1950’s.
A question that is commonly asked about professional basketball is, Could players from the WNBA compete in the NBA? The answer is clear. Women could not survive in the NBA. Men are physically stronger and faster, better natural athletes, and naturally smarter within the confines of sports.
Kobe Bryant vs Michael Jordan? This is a controversial question in the NBA league. Kobe Bryant is one of the greatest basketball players of all time who was approaching or even goes beyond Michael Jordan. Both player are well-known to the world and as well as their basketball skills. As a similarity, both players are playing shooting guard and with similar play-style. I grew up with Kobe Bryant as a personal hero and barely knew who Michael Jordan was, now that I have examined the two players objectively. I concede that Michael Jordan’s skills are superior.

Women are being allowed to participate now, including professional leagues such as the Women’s National Basketball Association, and the Ladies Professional Golf Association. Women in sports, especially softball and basketball, have become a big-time business. World War II is when the basis of women’s professional sports began. While the men were overseas fighting the war against the Nazis and Germans, the women entertained the people who stayed back by playing baseball.
Basketball was created as a sport in 1891 by James Naismith, and it quickly became popular among both men and women. It initially started with the same rules for each gender, but according to Patricia Cain in her article, “Women, Race, and Sports: Life Before Title IX,” the rules quickly changed for women. Cain (2001) states that, “Almost immediately, however, some educators began changing the rules of basket...

"In many ways, the creation and growth of women’s soccer in the US was a process of assembling the components. College soccer, the youth programs, amateur clubs, the national team, tournament success, the US Open Cup, farm clubs and finally a professional league. But once it was done (and at an amazingly quick pace at that), the US had gone from a latecomer to the premier women’s soccer program in the world, and is a spearhead that inspires the growth of the women’s game throughout the rest of the world" (Women's 69). The first women's soccer league in the United States wasn't established until 1995. Women's first professional league in the United States was developed in 2001. As women’s soccer became more popular, the style of clothing dramatically changed. Women's soccer used to be played in whatever clothes they wanted. There was a photo that was taken in 1869 of women playing soccer in their dresses. Today, women's soccer has uniforms that they wear for every game. "The four British associations agreed on a uniform code and formed the International Football Association Board" (There
Gender inequality in the United States is a serious problem, and it is often overlooked. It is a big issue, especially within sports. We live in a society where our culture prefers men 's sports over women 's. Labeling activities as feminine and masculine is a social construction based on stereotyped expectations regarding gender and perceived gender differences (McCullick, 2012). In 1972 Title IX was passed stating that, no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. This opened up athletics to women and girls (Education Amendment Act of 1972, 1972). Although
There has been no question that basketball was first played in the United States. In fact, the first game was played at the International Young Men’s Christian Association Training School, now called Springfield College. (Joseph Morse, 1973) Naismith invented basketball as an alternative to the calisthenics and marching his students practiced to keep fit in the winters (Lauren S. Bahr, 1995).
