Football is a sport that has two definitions depending where you are from. For example, in most countries they think soccer but, in the United States they think American football. Despite which one you refer too, they both have loyal fans that cheer for their teams no matter what. These two sports excite people whether it’s the super bowl or the world cup. Although they have the same name in common there are many other similarities as well as differences. Soccer has many similarities with American football such as the way the game begins, ends, and is played. In both sports they make an entrance to the stadium in which, adoring fanatics cheer for their favorite team. In soccer the game is played in two halves’ which are composed of 45 minutes each with a 15 minutes break in between. When the game starts the team with procession of the ball first will begin in the middle of the field, with the players staying on their corresponding sides. The positions they have are goalkeeper, defense, midfield, and forward. When the referee blows the whistle the match begins and the team with the procession start passing the ball to eventually score. A typical strategy is to take the ball through the sides by passing it to open players or running with the ball. As soon as you get close to the goalie box, they tend to cross the ball to an open teammate so they can attempt to score. The opposing team however, is trying to defend by keeping the ball as far away from the goal net. In this case the midfielders job would be to prevent the offensive team to get by so the defense gets in position for an off sides trap. If that doesn’t work they keep the offense on the sides of the field and leaving no players open in the middle. Eventually, this will work and the opposing team will take control of the ball. In soccer you can only score one way but different styles such as corner kick, free kick, penalty, or just taking a shot at the goal
