Poseidon vs Darth Vader
Even though there are more better people is the Odyssey, by Homer, Darth Vader is the best because he is strong, powerful, and aggressive. Is it more heroic to see someone have the force or for someone to a god in a book the Odyssey?A villain is defined as someone that is evil and that has a lot of power. Even Though literature is filled with hero, the two main ones are Poseidon and Darth Vader. Even though Poseidon is strong, but Darth Vader is even more stronger and powerful.
Some people may think that absolutely Poseidon is better than Darth Vader because Poseidon is powerful, smart, and vengeful. To begin, Poseidon is smart. According to the book, “The Odyssey” by Homer,” Poseidon crushes Odysseus's boat because Odysseus was mad at him for blinding his son.” (Homer 5). Some people may believe that Darth Vader is better, but this shows that Poseidon was smart. Furthermore, Poseidon is a villain

because he is powerful. In the book it states “Soon he could make out clusters of trees on the lower slopes of the hills”. (Homer 5). Some people may believe that Darth Vader is better, but this shows that Poseidon is powerful because he could move the slopes. Third, Poseidon, a villain, because he is vengeful. The book states “He wrenched the state from his eye and hurled it against the wall” (Homer 27). Some people may believe that Darth Vader is better, but this shows that Poseidon was vengeful because he hurled it against the wall, after it was his fault. While Poseidon is is all of those things Darth Vader is Powerful, strong, and aggressive.
In the text it states Darth Vader well armed laser fire proves to be unavoidable” (Star Wars). Additionally, Darth Vader is strong. He is strong because he Twisted bodies of his foes” (Star Wars). Some people may believe that Poseidon is better because he has a big trident but this shows that Darth Vader is Strong. Also, Darth Vader is aggressive because it states “ A death star corridor flamed by Imperial troopers” (Star Wars). Some people believe that Poseidon is better, but this shows that Darth Vader was Aggressive because he attacks the other Imperial Storm troopers that are his enemies. This shows that Darth Vader is better than Poseidon, for all of those reasons.
In conclusion, people still believe that Poseidon is better than Darth Vader but in my opinion Darth Vader is better than Poseidon. Darth Vader is clearly better than Poseidon, because he is strong, powerful, and he is aggressive. Poseidon is pretty cool, but Darth Vader is clearly
better.
...so associated with clouds, rivers, and oceans. Known to be omnipotent and omniscient, there was great respect for Varuna as believers thought the god kept watch over the entire universe. Because this god controlled the environment and flow of waters, it is believed that Varuna was responsible for upholding world order. Varuna is depicted on a chariot led by seven swans with an umbrella placed overhead. He has four arms in which he holds a lotus, a noose, a conch, and a vessel of gems. Ruler of waters in Greek mythology, is Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea and rivers. He became ruler of the sea after he and his brothers defeated the elder gods in a divine war. Poseidon is usually seen as an older man with long curly hair and a long beard. In his hand he holds a trident and in most cases is depicted wearing a crown while standing is amidst water or water creatures.
All these things considered, the validity of Odysseus’s actions remain fair. Because of his denial of the power of the gods, Poseidon forced Odysseus to the raging sea. For these years that he was apart from Penelope and Telemachus he...
his past adventures, the Phaiacians who are descendents of Poseidon, chose to be loyal to
What makes a hero or a villain? A hero is defined as a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life. By this definition, there existed countless heroes in America during the 1800’s in relation to slavery. There were many abolitionists, particularly from the North, that exhibited courageous attitudes. It was these heroes that taught the southerners, who believed their lives could only prevail if slavery survived and expanded westward, what they knew was morally right (3, 92).
Often through great literature, there is an epic hero. In the Odyssey, Homer tells the story of one man’s journey home from the Trojan War. The protagonist of the epic poem Odysseus is often regarded as a great hero. However, Odysseus is not quite the glorious soldier that people often see him as. Odysseus shows that he is an antihero through his pride, disloyalty, and bloodthirstiness.
A hero, according to Webster Dictionary, is defined as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” Heroes are very noble and do great things just like Odysseus, the epic hero of Homer’s The Odyssey. He must deal with incredible obstacles like battling a Cyclops and making a trip to the underworld. He still attempts to achieve sophrasyne, or the Greek word for restraint. Ethan and Joel Coen wrote and directed the movie, O Brother Where Art Thou? The movie is based off The Odyssey and there are obvious similarities. The main character of the movie, Ulysses Everett McGill is also a cunning leader as demonstrated by him escaping jail and returning to his family. However, unlike Odysseus, Ulysses uses his cleverness for his own good and tricks his cell mates to help him return home while Odysseus tried his best to help his whole crew return home. Although Odysseus and Ulysses are both strategic and heroic, Odysseus has more nobility than Ulysses as seen by his courage, honesty, and trustworthiness.
Poseidon has never really liked Odysseus. When Odysseus tries to make it onto the shore of Skheria, Poseidon “…calls up wind / from every quarter, and sends a wall of rain…'; (89). Consequently, it is a safe assumption that Poseidon will really have it in for Odysseus. He states, “I thought he should suffer all the way [home]'; (233). After Odysseus returns home, Poseidon talks to Zeus and says he wants to put a mountain ring around the city and crush the ship of the Phaiakians.
Brains over brawn, who will win this battle?Homer's tale of Odysseus' adventures in “The Odyssey” show that being intelligent and cunning can be far better than having physical strength. Being physically strong certainly has its advantages, but not in all circumstances. Strength in intelligence shows new meaning of strength. Odysseus is amused with himself when he defeats Polyphemus. His great skills with a bow outweigh the others abilities. Knowledge of the placement of his bed win his beloveds heart.
While watching the film Gladiator with my girlfriend I realized the striking similarities that heroes share. However, I always wonder who is more of a hero. The definition or hero is a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life. So let us compare the two heroes as the dictionary defines them. In the end I hope to be able to define who is a greater hero.
...jor problem to ancient Greek because the Poseidon controls the sea it can cause destruction and death.
Both men are brave in their own way. Odysseus has to develop his bravery during his travel. He did not want to fight in the Trojan War, but was tricked into going. If he had not gone, then Poseidon would not be mad at him. Odysseus gets braver as his journey continues throughout the epic. Odysseus shows his bravery through the example that he sets for his men. When he and his men are getting the Cyclops drunk so that they can defeat him, he says, “So, you ask me the name I’m known by Cyclops? I will tell you. But you must give me a guest-gift as you’ve promised. Nobody- that’s my name. Nobody- so my mother and father call me, all my friends.” (Homer 9.408-411). Odysseus showed his bravery and wisdom by thinking ahead to what the Cyclops might do when they attack him. This proved to be helpful because the other monsters come to help the Cyclops, but left when he screams that nobody is killing him. Odysseus’s bravery is built into his character and is shown through his
Both the Odyssey and the Aeneid represent their cultures very well, but they express different ideas on what one should strive for in life. There are also different forces that pushed both epics to be written. The Aeneid expresses the Roman idea of pietas which means to show extreme respect for one’s ancestors. We see this in Aeneas when he is pictured caring his father away from burning Troy. He has pietas because he cared so much for his father that in fleeing from Troy he took up his father over his shoulder to save his from certain death. This is not the only major idea in the Aeneid. There is also a very political focus. The Roman were very interested in politics which comes through in the Aeneid. The Odyssey has the Greek idea of arete trapped somewhere among the many themes. Arete is a strive for perfection in both mind and body. It is a much more personal and individual idea than the Roman pietas. In the most basic seance the Aeneid and the Romans have a much more political focus and duty to the state ( republic ) than the Greeks who honor tradition , family , and arete.
There has been much debate on who is the greatest hero of the ancient world. There has also been much dispute on which is the greatest epic poem of the ancient world. However, comparing The Aeneid to The Odyssey is entirely a difficult task itself. Odysseus' journeys, both physical and emotional, are essential in the overall work because it defines The Odyssey as an epic poem. Aeneas also shares a similar experience as Odysseus as well. Both stories are similar in countless ways because they both undergo comparable experiences on their travels and their life journeys. With that being said, they both demonstrated leadership in their own way. However, it is difficult to determine who the best leader actually is. Both men exhibit great leadership skills; therefore, causing a challenge for some in determining which the greater epic is. After analyzing both texts, it is possible to conclude that Aeneas is the better leader, but The Odyssey is the greater epic.
Siblings have special places in our hearts. If my sibling got kidnapped to a deserted island, I would be very upset, and probably wouldn’t sleep until she was home. However, I would feel better about the situation if Greek gods were helping my family bring my sister back. Two Greek gods that would be fit for this situation would be Hades and Poseidon.
In the book the Iliad, The Odyssey, and Works and days, there are many things that can be similar when talking about Greek heroes and the world of Greek poetry. The stories and topics are describing similar events during this time of the eighth and seventh century B.C. In the end, however, they do have some differences in some parts when describing or explaining certain situations and ideas. The world of Greek heroes is written like a story; or Epic Poetry. That is what The Iliad and The Odyssey are; Epic Poetries. They are telling a story of a great hero and their adventures. On the other hand, the more realistic Greek World that is being described in Works and days is a Didactic poem, which tells more of a moral or message to the reader.
