Doctor vs. Physical Therapist The medical field consists of many specialties that could be hard to choose from. Once the options have been narrowed down, a life-changing choice has to be made. Healthcare has become a popular choice for many individuals as a career choice due to the demand. Have you ever thought about a career in healthcare? If so, what interest you more helping people or the pay? Due to the wide range of careers offered in healthcare, proper research should be conducted. Sadly enough, most people when considering a career in healthcare don't take the time to do the proper research to discover which career would fit or benefit them the most. In fact, if the proper research is done individuals may discover there are multitudes of healthcare jobs out there to be discovered. Among the list done in a US New article, registered nurses and physical therapy are listed as one of the 10 best jobs in the United States (Graves, 2012). So, what are the differences in these two promising careers; how much education is required, what are the average cost, job outlooks and overall benefits and what exactly does each of these healthcare professionals do.
Therefore, the decision is decided based on a student wanting eight years of college, tons of paperwork, and the liability. If he has the patience and dedication, he is capable of being a physical therapist. Once I learned about eight years of college and tons of paperwork, my decision changed. With others it can be different. I think the best part about physical therapy is helping people getting back on their feet, but I think the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. While in college I became a volunteer at a hospital. There I came across physical therapy. Therapists would go to patient rooms to help individuals work on exercises or get them up to walk. Whenever I saw a physical therapist, I paid close attention. Therapists would help patients regain their strength or motion and I found that incredible. I did my own research and read more about what physical therapy was and the schooling needed. I want a career that will challenge me every day but also allows me to interact with and help people. It takes a unique individual to want to become a Physical Therapist. These professionals have a lot of personal traits that are a must need to excel in the Physical Therapy field. A Physical therapist could be faced with a patient/client that might be angry, sad, or confused, so being able to relate to these individuals is a great quality all therapist must have. These personal traits are skills like being relaxed and determined, supportive, and of course knowledgeable.
From a young age I was interested in the medical field. As I became more exposed to the various options, I decided physical therapy was the right career for me. My experience has proved the field to be interesting and fun. I enjoy working with people and the versatility of therapy. There are many areas to specialize in and I look forward to learning which one is right for me. At the moment I am interested in pediatric acute care but I am also interested in sports and orthopedics. I endured a very impoverished upbringing and my family’s socioeconomic status was below the poverty line. At a very young age, money became the central issue of my life. At this time in my life I’m not prepared to take on the requirements that are needed to get into the DPT program.
