Love is already a battlefield, but what if two people are loving the same person? Which one of these men will prove their love. There can only be one man on top of the battle. Who will be top dog. Who will have the most desired love. In Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby, Tom and Gatsby both love Daisy, but their approach is very different.
People have multiple ways of protecting their loved ones. Especially if they are in trouble. When Daisy hit Myrtle with Gatsby’s car (pg 144), he stood outside of her home for hours on end. Waiting to hear just one single scream from her, just to make sure she is okay (pg 150-153). Gatsby would give up his freedom, even his life just for Daisy. Gatsby would protect Daisy at any cost towards him, as long as she is safe. Tom and Daisy run off to Chicago, the day after Myrtle was killed. They did not say a word to anyone, even if someone called for them they servants say they had already left (pg 172). Tom would run away from the problems and pretend like nothing had ever happened. He would let anyone else take the blame, as long as onone he cares about gets into trouble. Gatsby stands like a man to any trouble that he faces, even if it’s not

The relationship must have trust, communication, and faithfulness. Which man proves this the most. Gatsby had never even touched another woman except for Daisy, even if they had never seen each other in years. All Gatsby has ever wanted was Daisy. No other woman could fulfill the emotions, happiness, and love like Daisy did and still does. Tom had two different women, his wife Daisy and his mistress Myrtle (all throughout the book). Daisy was never enough for Tom. He was just never fully committed to Daisy, he just needed a little more. Gatsby had always provided a true committed relationship with Daisy, she was the only girl in the world to Gatsby. Tom did love her, but he had always just wanted a little more that Daisy did not provide for
From early civilizations to modern day social systems, economic status has always been a determining factor of power. Kings, queens, dukes, princes, and princesses possessed the greatest amount of wealth and thus the greatest amount of power over others. By having large amounts of wealth, royalty could control the actions of others below their economic status. This fact even applies the functions of modern American society. For instance, regardless of the specific circumstance, wealthy individuals have power over the actions of those below them. They control others by buying their loyalty or simply through others’ envy of them. Such principles can be applied to both men and women of wealth. The novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald,
Whilst lounging among her ‘friends’ and colleagues, Fitzgerald is able to show how Myrte is submissive to anyone who poses as a threat to her. During the time period in which the novel is taking place, the roaring twenties, the male in any relationship was dominant over the woman. The word “broke” also shows a strong development in words. Fitzgerald did not give Myrtle's character a fractured nose, but instead, gave her a more painful alternative,a nose that was “broke.” Fitzgerald is also able to show how Myrtle can be stricken and will not say a word about it due to the cause of her own fear. Since Tom Buchanan was angry , he physically hurt her in a
There are many conspiracies in the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. One of them that many people believe is that Daisy Buchanan had killed Myrtle Wilson on purpose. Myrtle was Tom Buchanan’s mistress. Tom and Daisy were married and had a child but that didn’t stop Tom from cheating on her. At the same time, Daisy was having an affair with Jay Gatsby who was her childhood lover. There is much evidence that can prove that Daisy and Tom set up to kill Myrtle and put the blame on Gatsby.
Daisy knows very well that tom is cheating on her, but doesn’t care because it's more convenient to stay in her unhappy marriage. Even though she wants to be with Gatsby, she wants to keep her social status and being with Tom makes this all the easier. Now, this is quite the opposite of Myrtle. She has a loving husband who would do anything for her, but her social status is all she cares about. Myrtle is willing to hurt George and ruin their marriage in order to climb up the social ladder. Neither of these women have respect for themselves. Both Daisy and Myrtle allow Tom to treat them
Love is vastly covered in “ The Great Gatsby “. The book itself is surrounded by love and everything within the book has to do with love. Gatsby and Daisy knew each other 5 years before they meet again in New York. They were lovers and Then Gatsby had to go off to war and he did not have a lot of money so Daisy marries Tom Buchanan. Even after 5 years away from each other Gatsby still deeply longs for Daisy. Gatsby says to Tom “ I told you what is going on, going on for five years and you didn’t know “ (131). As he tells Tom of them being together, you can also
Same Goal, Different Route in The Great Gatsby A more thorough investigation of The Great Gatsby is necessary to uncover a well-disguised theme by Fitzgerald in this work. Upon a simple read through one would probably not notice the great similarities of Jay Gatsby and Myrtle Wilson, but the two characters seemed to have the same agenda for their lives. While Gatsby took the route of acquiring money at all costs to join the upper class of society and to be acceptable in the eyes of a woman, Myrtle chose to make her way up in society at the cost of her marriage by attaching herself to money. The underlying question is who had the most success. As a young man, Jay Gatsby was poor with nothing but his love for Daisy. He had attempted to
Tom is richer than Gatsby, and has a far lesser chance of losing his money; because of the simple fact that he did not need to participate in anything illegal to gain his wealth. In fact Tom did not need to participate in anything to receive his wealth. Gatsby, because he was not born into a wealthy, well-to-do family, is in a lower class, despite being almost as wealthy as Tom is. While Gatsby treats Daisy far better than Tom does, Daisy still favors Tom because it is far easier to live with someone who has a predictable pattern to their actions than someone who is all over the place. All of these coincide with each other to cause Daisy to think that she loves Tom more than she does Gatsby.
Many of the occurrences in The Great Gatsby produced far-reaching effects for several of the characters. Of these occurrences, one of the most influential and important incidents was the death of Myrtle Wilson. While her life and death greatly affected the lives of all of the main and supporting characters, her death had a very significant effect on the lives of Tom, Daisy, and Gatsby.
The passage in which Myrtle Wilson is killed exemplifies the recklessness of Daisy and Tom. Daisy sees Myrtle running out into the road and at first swerves toward the other car and seems to change her mind and just collide with Myrtle and continue on. Afterwards, Tom and Daisy just pack up and leave, without even attending Gatsby’s funeral. Nick seems to think they used their position in society to escape any mess they had gotten themselves into. Later on in the book, Nick says, "They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness." That quote supports the way Daisy and Tom acted with the Myrtle incident. In this passage they retreat back into both their money and carelessness by running away.
Tom is in a relationship with Daisy however he has a mistress and both Daisy and him aren’t particularly happy whereas with the new changes in society Gatsby is not in a relationship, his feelings for Daisy do not become physical, however he is happy with his partying lifestyle and the lifestyle where they may not particularly be a need a relationship with one person due to people being around you all the time.
Tom wanted the "possession" of Myrtle, Myrtle wanted Tom's "luxuries and wealth," and Daisy wanted Gatsby simply for his wealth. Both Tom and Daisy know each other's affairs, but neither one truly cares. As the story progresses, it seems as though each of them is trying to make the other jealous. Honesty and Love, two words known only by the faithful, George Wilson. George certainly had his flaws, but he loved his wife dearly and couldn't live without her. "He was his wife's man and not his own." When he became aware of Tom and Myrtle's affair, he was "really sick, pale as his own pale hair and shaking all over." He locked her up in fear that she would run away with Tom forever.
This shows that she loves both of them and wishes to not witness them fighting. She cannot decide which person she fancies extra. She treats Gatsby and Tom as if she loves both of them, but she enjoys teasing Nick. Gatsby treats her exactly like a queen while Tom treats her disrespectfully like garbage by constantly cheating on her, and Nick treats her similar to a fairly decent person. Daisy is motivated by Gatsby’s compassion and lust for her.
The biggest difference that I noticed was the acting. The acting in the older version was very poor. The older version focused more the argument between Myrtle and Wilson ,and it made Myrtle look like the bad person because of the way she was speaking towards wilson. In The old movie they showed his father ; however in the new movie they cut that out and I feel that it was best that they did , because if it would have been in the new movie it would have taken away from how close Nick and Gatsby were. The last thing that was different was the scene when Gatsby was shot again I think the first movie did a better job at portraying that . Overall the 2014 version was the better version .
Cinderella went through numerous challenges to get to her Prince Charming. Fortunately, for her, one of the things she did not endure was the competition of another woman. In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby characters face hardships such as grief, stress, confusion, and even a lack of love. Some characters have an abundance of adoration, while others like Tom and Myrtle seem as if they should belong in a loveless world. As Tom begins to fix his attention on his mistress, Daisy finds herself falling for Gatsby all over again. On the other hand Wilson is abandoned and clueless. Ultimately Daisy chooses Tom over Gatsby. As unfaithful, arrogant, and rude as Tom is to Daisy, is he full of love or just loveless?
