Whether it’s George Lucas’s classic space opera “Star Wars” or Quentin Tarintino’s gory action films, everyone loves movies. From action to satire there is a movie for everyone, but the medium in which we view these movie are always changing. The cinema has held its title as the go-to for watching the latest flicks, but with the exponential strides, we have made in entertainment technology it seems as if this era is coming to an end. From laptops to tablets you can view a new movie with the push of a button while in the comfort of your own home. This new medium for viewing has divided the population, as we compare and contrast the differences between the two before making a decision on what should our source of entertainment be , cinema or …show more content…
It seems that ticket prices at the cinema are always going up because the supply outweighs the demand, as a result admission fees cost twice as much as they did before. Not to mention the outrageous prices that they charge for refreshments and popcorn, its seems as if the cinema approaches its consumers with a mafia-like mindset intending to drain them of every single penny before they even sit down to enjoy the movie. Although, if you chose to view a movie at home, you probably wouldn’t spend a dime because entry is free, and you have your own food and refreshments. As well as you avoid the hassle of long lines ,rude employees and obnoxious strangers interacting with you, the only thing that would be your concern when watching a movie home is if your electric bill is …show more content…
Unfortunately, incidents like the mass shooting of unarmed citizens in Aurora, Colorado which took place in a movie theater during a midnight screening of the film “The Dark Knight Rises” still occurs in our society. Most movie theaters barley have any security measures and some don’t even have security guards. Once in a theater you are in a dark room surrounded by over two hundred people each with an ulterior motive, this type of atmosphere is a breeding ground for paranoia and doubt not to mention you probably will be to distracted worrying about your own safety than watching the movie. There is also the risk of a fire and even a small one is enough to send people into a frenzy which could lead to getting trampled on by a human stampede like in the case of Iroquois movie theater fire in 1903. When viewing a movie home you are surrounded in a familiar environment, as well as varying measures of security such as burglar proofing and silence alarms. Some home owners even own guns as added measure of security, with all these things in place you are guaranteed to be able to concentrate on watching your movie in tranquility. Although, you are also susceptible to things which you cannot control no doubt the chances increase by a margin when leaving

At the Century Aurora 16 complex in Aurora, Colorado, witnesses said that within minutes of a midnight premiere screening of the film “The Dark Knight Rises”, James Holmes slipped through an emergency exit door of the sold-out movie theater, propped it open, and returned armed with three guns and wearing a ballistic helmet, body shields, and a gas mask obscuring his face. He tossed two hissing gas or smoke canisters and calmly walked up the aisles open firing at moviegoers. (Crummy,
Motion Pictures have always had a strong influence in today’s culture, but maybe none as prevalent as Star Wars. Originating with Episode 4 A New Hope, the series boomed from 1977 to 2005 with yet another addition coming in 2015. The strongest of the series was the original trilogy episodes 4, 5, and 6, all generally released in the 1980s. As one of the strongest film francaises still today, it’s impact within the 1980s was only the tip of the iceberg. Children and adults alike still anticipate the new edition of this seemingly endless journey. If any singular film series still holds prevalence in its future decades it is Star Wars: Original Trilogy.
In Hollywood today, most films can be categorized according to the genre system. There are action films, horror flicks, Westerns, comedies and the likes. On a broader scope, films are often separated into two categories: Hollywood films, and independent or foreign ‘art house’ films. Yet, this outlook, albeit superficial, was how many viewed films. Celebrity-packed blockbusters filled with action and drama, with the use of seamless top-of-the-line digital editing and special effects were considered ‘Hollywood films’. Films where unconventional themes like existentialism or paranoia, often with excessive violence or sex or a combination of both, with obvious attempts to displace its audiences from the film were often attributed with the generic label of ‘foreign’ or ‘art house’ cinema.
Film and literature are two media forms that are so closely related, that we often forget there is a distinction between them. We often just view the movie as an extension of the book because most movies are based on novels or short stories. Because we are accustomed to this sequence of production, first the novel, then the motion picture, we often find ourselves making value judgments about a movie, based upon our feelings on the novel. It is this overlapping of the creative processes that prevents us from seeing movies as distinct and separate art forms from the novels they are based on.
In his essay, “It’s Just a Movie: A Teaching Essay for Introductory Media Classes”, Greg M. Smith argues that analyzing a film does not ruin, but enhances a movie-viewing experience; he supports his argument with supporting evidence. He addresses the careful planning required for movies. Messages are not meant to be telegrams. Audiences read into movies to understand basic plotlines. Viewers should examine works rather than society’s explanations. Each piece contributes to Smith’s argument, movies are worth scrutinizing.
In a movie theater, there are experiences that some will not have while at home and watching Netflix, such as the enormous screen, comfortable movie theater seating, and the theater speakers. Netflix can be used in a causal way with friends, but the main purpose of watching a movie is enjoying the experiences one can get from the movie itself. While at the movie theaters, the environment is completely different, because everyone is supposed to be quiet or else they risk being thrown out. The experience does not compare to the feeling someone gets when that intense scene appears, and they get immersed into the atmosphere of the theater. Movie theaters have the opportunity to give someone an unforgettable experience unlike Netflix, because the ambiance is truly unique and unmatched by anyone’s living

Have you ever been so focused in a movie that you actually feel like you are in the movie? But then two rows down, people start talking obnoxiously, and you take your focus off the the movie and on to the people talking. During movies there is always that one person or group in the movies that won't care that they are ruining the movie for the other people. People pay money to go to the movies, so if someone is talking loudly the whole time and you can't focus on the movie, the people just wasted $5 a person to hear a person talk the whole movie. If someone was in a movie and someone starts talking and they will not stop, go to the front desk and of the theatre and tell the workers/manager that someone is ruining your movie experience,
Each movie or television show out there has characters. These characters are what make each show/movie unique. Throughout my years of watching TV and movies I have developed a taste for the types of characters I enjoy to watch. I have to say that I enjoy a wide variety of characters, but to narrow that down, I like admirable characters as well as a little villainous here and there. In this essay I will compare these two types of characters and why I find each one appealing.
When you watch a movie in a theater you have the advantage of not having to deal with commercials because they come on at the beginning of the movie. However, that can be a disadvantage as well because if you have to go to the bathroom or something comes up you would have to miss that part of the movie. Also, you will have chance to view the movie on the release date and be able to comment if the movie was or was not worth watching. However, for these services, a theater fee is required. The fee is determined by how good or how comfortable the theater is. Seating will be a something to look forward as well. If you arrive early seating may be more available than if you arrive late, so you would have to seat wherever a seat is available and sometimes that is not to your comfortability or desire. You also do not have choice in what kind of chair you want to sit in, or how soft or hard the chair is which sometimes seems less appealing.
It can be difficult to re-create the experience of going to the movie theater. However, home theaters and in-home entertainment has become more popular as online streaming has taken a precedence in the industry.
Movies take us inside the skin of people quite different from ourselves and to places different from our routine surroundings. As humans, we always seek enlargement of our being and wanted to be more than ourselves. Each one of us, by nature, sees the world with a perspective and selectivity different from others. But, we want to see the world through other’s eyes; imagine with other’s imaginations; feel with other’s hearts, at a same time as with our own. Movies offer us a window onto the wider world, broadening our perspective and opening our eyes to new wonders.
"Books and movies are like apple and oranges. They both are fruit, but taste completely different.” said Stephen King (goodreads.com). It is indeed true, books and movies have several common things and yet have differences. They both give us the same story, but are viewed completely different. Reading books and watching movies are similar as they both tell a story and give details and information about the story. Reading books or watching movies gives the reader and the viewer the same feeling and emotions about the story. People can feel gloomy or pleased with the story after reading a book or watching a movie. Both books and movies have the same general concepts, which are the themes and main characters of
