DreamWorks and Pixar are two respectable studios that created many successful films throughout the years that sends a positive message to its audience. In the end, what Halberstam is doing in her essay “Animating Revolt and Revolting Animation”, is providing a new way of thinking. Not just about the animated films she discusses, but also about humanity as a whole. Films such as Toy Story, Over the Hedge, and even Finding Nemo are used to represent a new utopia for children where they can escape the troubles of reality that are created by those that they are surrounded with. And other films such as March of the Penguins , that are used to rework humanity. Altogether,
Ralph has an idealistic view of the world and he always strives for righteousness and perfection in himself and in others. I think that because he expects perfection in this world, he is disappointed with the imperfections in himself and in others as well as the unfairness in the world. Facing difficult situations, one after another in his life, has affected him deeply because of his idealistic view of the world.
¨Grease is the word¨, and ¨what team? Wildcats¨ are well known phrases that emerged decades apart, yet come from almost the same movie. With a twenty eight year age gap between the movies Grease and High School Musical, there was bound to be some differences in the way the characters handled their problems. The leading characters being protagonists, Sandra Dee with Danny Zouko and Gabriella Montez with Troy Bolton all being influenced by how their time period saw women. Grease takes place in the 1950’s; a period often viewed as one of conformity. Sandra and Danny portrait traditional gender roles; she desperately craved his approval (evidence). Gabriella, on the other hand, being brought up in the early 2000’s was independent and did not seek
How much are you willing to sacrifice in order to survive? In the heart of the Yukon, both man and and dog must battle for survival. They must persevere in order to come out on top. In Call of the Wild and To Build a Fire there are many similarities and differences between Buck and the man.
Ralph’s power at the beginning is secure but as the group succumbs to their savage instincts, Ralph’s influence declines as Jack’s rises. This is due mainly to the cruelty and violence that goes on in the story. This cruelty reveals that Ralph’s commitment to civilization and being rescued is so strong that he will not allow himself to change his morals and become cruel like the others. The cruelty in this novel also shows that Ralph is a very intelligent character. His intelligence can be proven because there was a point in the novel when he hunts a boar for the first time and he experiences the thrill of bloodlust. He also attends one of Jack’s feast where he is swept away by the frenzy and participates in the killing of Simon. This is a very tragic moment for Ralph because this is when he realizes the evil that lives within himself and every human being. It is the cruel acts that happen in this novel that reveals Ralph’s character of being intelligent and being able to think deeply about human experiences. He even weeps when getting saved because of his knowledge about the human capacity for
All of Pixar’s iconic films are inspired from small ideas drawn from aspects of everyday life. One of the most prominent inspirations was channeled into the film Finding Nemo. Andrew Stanton, a high ranking director and producer for Pixar, used his memories of a fish tank in a dentist’s office from his childhood as half of the story in Finding Nemo. Stanton’s sympathy for the fish and being an overprotective father served as the other half of the basic story and together the two memories formed the emotional anchor for the film. Another idea that spawned from a staff member helped create the unforgettable and heartfelt film Toy Story. John Lasseter, the chief creative officer of Pixar, owned many rare and collectible toys, and became nervous whenever his kids wanted to play with them. However, the real message, Lasseter realized, is just because a toy is signed by Tom Hanks, it does not mean that it is sentenced to life on a shelf. Channeling that type of thinking into all of the toys in Toy Story is what makes the film so cherished and more easily relatable. Another popular film is The Incredibles, which is Pixar’s tribute to pop mythology, comic books, and spy movies. The other inspiration for this movie deals with an average, everyday family life: the fear, anxiety, work, and insecurities that happen throughout a day. Combining the two aspects make for a very interesting, action-packed film, while also being very sincere and family-friendly. Pixar films were not all inspired from personal experience and passion. A documentary about the Rainforest Mountains in Venezuela made by Adrian Warren was the inspiration behind the movie Up. Inspiration can come from anywhere, and Pixar proves that anything can be ex...
The manifest content, or main storyline of the movie, “Wreck it Ralph”, is about a arcade game character named Ralph, who is portrayed as the bad guy in his game. Ralph’s main goal in the game is destroy anything, and everything he sees in the game. People are scared of him in this game, and he is tired of that feeling. Ralph has had enough of losing to the good guy, Fix-it Felix, and decides that he doesn’t want to be a bad guy anymore. Ralph is a good guy at heart, and is not the same villain outside of the game. But all the characters treat him differently when the game is over, and he does not really like that. So, Ralph then decides to leave his game, and ‘game hop’ to different games to prove to the players, and characters that he is much more than a villain.
The Maze Runner may not have been a particularly good movie, especially once it decided to move away from being a Lord of the Flies knockoff in favor of a "escape from the giant mechanical spiders" movie - even though that sounds reversed from how it should be. It made a lot of money, though, so it now has a sequel: The Scorch Trials. Set directly after the events of the first film, the second follows Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) and co. as they continue on the run from WICKED, an evil organization that wants children in order to produce a cure for a virus that essentially wiped out civilization as we currently know it.
A human blossoms to succeed in life, they blossom to come to one point where we may look upon life and remember all the times we owned, one blossoms to be someone, great, and one strives to accomplish this with their ability. In further Frankenstein want to succeed. To look upon one’s life without any regrets is a hard assignment to accomplish. The characters mentioned are all different but yet the same in purpose: trying to succeed. The main character of Frankenstein and Death of a Salesman seize similar qualities; wanting to succeed in life, have the same relationship with another key figure in the plot line, and possessing the qualities of a tragic hero.
The widely popular film Shrek, produced and distributed by DreamWorks in 2001, grossed a total of $484,409,218 in worldwide sales (Box Office Mojo). The success of the film has led DreamWorks to create several shorts, companion films, and sequels. From its memorable characters to its whimsical, edgy humor, Shrek was an amazing, highly successful animation that would pave the way for DreamWorks to make billions off the franchise. Shrek’s success can be attributed to three main factors: the range of ages it appeals to, its creative use of intertextuality, and its ability to cover a wide range of the fairy tale functions proposed by Vladimir Propp.
In both Hans Christian Andersons “The Little Mermaid,” and Disney’s version of the story, the main character— a young and beautiful mermaid— waits anxiously for her fifteenth birthday to venture from her father’s underwater castle to the world above the water. As the story carries on the mermaids priorities change; her modest and selfless nature is revealed towards the end in Andersen’s version. However, Disney’s version encompasses a rather shallow ending and plot throughout. The theme found in comparing the two versions reveal that Andersen’s substance trumps Disney’s entertainment factor in fairy tales.
I chose to analyze Despicable Me, an animated film geared towards a younger audience, because I was interested in examining underlying theories and messages that this film would be relaying to its viewers. Often times, when watching animated films, children are not aware of these messages, as they are absorbed by the characters, special effects, and humor. But as we have learned throughout this semester, our brains are subconsciously primed by the various surroundings we are exposed to. Since we also studied the impacts of entertainment, such as television and video games, on children, I wanted to see how a popular children’s film might also affect them.
The animated action film Big Hero 6 was produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and was directed by Don Hall and Chris William. It displays a heart filling story with a breathtaking theme showing that real friends are always needed during tough situations. Since the Golden Gate Bridge was seen in the movie and the movie takes place in a city called San Fransokyo, we assume that it is San Francisco and Tokyo combined, the two most famous cities in world. Big Hero 6 uses various kinds of characters with unique personalities and exceptional traits to diversify the movie entirely and to show different perspectives and feelings throughout the movie.
