One characteristic of a monster is that they are violent. Many people question why monsters are violent and why they want to put humans in harms way. Monsters are violent because society makes them that way. This statement is justified by the many various monsters in the following: the monsters are Frankenstein’s Monster, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy and Saw to name a few of the more iconic classic monsters. Humanity pushes monsters to be violent because that’s the only way they know how to react.

Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a little different then Frankenstein in a way that the monster isn’t identified as a monster as much for his appearance as he is for his actions. Dr. Jekyll was a scientist and as a scientist he had to keep a good name but he didn’t want to be good he want to be bad. So, he decided he would have two personalities, because most people saw him as a normal person (Simons). Thinking that if he had two personalities he could be good and evil. He made a potion that transforms himself into a man without a conscience. So, He could do all those bad things that he wanted to do, but then had a way to cover it up by saying it was someone else. Eventually this plan got out of hand. Having two personalities of Dr. Jekyll being the good doctor and then Mr. Hyde is the murderer, he started not being able to control when he was Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde. He fears that he will turn into Mr. Hyde permanently. Society doesn’t accept this because you’re not supposed to be two different people. Trying to be two different people is monstrous because that just doesn’t happen and him to think that is okay is monstrous. Also, for him to murder people makes him a monster and a serial killer because it wasn’t just one it was many. By Dr. Jekyll’s friend starting to get suspicious about this situation drive Dr. Jekyll to worry. Then, he turns back to Mr. Hyde and thinks it’s a good idea to kill himself. He raped, kidnapped, assaulted, strangled, and decapitated many people from 1973-1978 when he was finally arrested. Though Bundy claims to have killed 30 people, he also confessed to 36 and hinted at even more. He was a sick man that even took part in necrophilia with his victims. How they found out Bundy was a serial killer was when several young women were assaulted and missing in the Oregon area. Bundy was a regular guy, he was a boy scout as a kid, he was a crisis counselor, a campaign volunteer, and he went to law school. Bundy’s childhood and Jobs really helped him to be violent. They taught him all he need to know to be the perfect serial killer. He claimed that he had a very stable childhood with caring parents, but having those things doesn’t keep you from being crazy. It started as a child when he would play jokes on his aunt by putting knives in her bed while she was asleep. But, his family always seemed to protect him. Also, as a child, he would listen to the radio and practice talking like an actor. These skills helped him overcome his shyness as a kid and also helped him become a predator. By being so good at talking to people he had a way of winning people over and that is mainly how he got his victims because he seemed like a trustworthy person.
