When asked to compare the backgrounds of Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine I looked it like this. Jefferson was one of the founder fathers of this nation because his wrote The Declaration of Independence. Paine wrote the pamphlet known as Common Sense which toke ideas of other in support of American Independence. Paine wrote these ideas down in a way so that everyone would understand and just the educated elite as had previous other before it. In a time full of chaos, desperation, and dissenting opinions, two definitive authors, Thomas Paine and Patrick Henry, led the way toward the American Revolution. Both men demanded action of their separate audiences. Paine wrote to inspire the commoners to fight while Henry spoke extemporaneously to compel the states’ delegates to create an army. Despite the differences between the two, both had very similar arguments which relied heavily upon God, abstract language, and ethos. In the end, both men were able to inspire their audiences and capture the approval and support of the masses. If not for these two highly influential and demanding men, the America that we know today might not exist.
In addition to Paine's thoughts on monarchy, he is delighted to see the British leave America for many other reasons. Thomas Paine started life as a common man, but became a distinguished writer and devoted patriot. The son of a corset maker, Paine was more influenced by his father's religion than his work. His father's religious influence in combination with his study of science caused him to dislike Government based on hereditary privilege. Thomas Paine was an activist for many causes throughout his lifetime including the abolition of slavery, government rule by democracy rather than a monarchy, and in later years about what he believed were falsehoods in the Bible. He was an advocate for freedom of the people and his writings were often controversial. He believed in democracy and leaned toward rule by the common man. After becoming a friend of Benjamin Franklin, he traveled to the colonies. While in the colonies his writings on the American Revolution caused him to become an enemy of the British Government. When he returned to Great Britain his writings as a proponent for the French Revolution caused him to have to flee to France to avoid arrest. His political stance in France eventually caused him to be imprisoned and he eventually had to flee again to the United States to escape long-term imprisonment. He traveled quite a bit and was able to see firsthand the American Revolution and the French Revolution. Thomas Paine was a gifted writer, and he was very devoted to his causes. He is extremely famous for his pamphlet Common Sense which he wrote about what he felt was the necessity for American independence and later had an input into the Constitution of the United States of America. There were a number of gifted male writers during this timeframe who wrote about the same issues, including Edmund Burke, so even though he was a revolutionary writer, he was not unique.

Jefferson was born at Shadwell, Virginia (Jefferson 1080). “Jefferson opened with the Declaration of Independence are among the most well known, powerful, and charged in the common historical and literary vocabulary of the united states (Jefferson 1080).” Thomas Jefferson believed “ we hold these truths to be self-evident”; “all men are created equal (Jefferson 1080).” He quoted this in the draft of the declaration of independence. He believed every man should be equal to each other. Jefferson was a very successful man as he wrote many different things the first was “A summary view of the rights of British America (1774) (Jefferson 1080).” That pamphlet showed how important he was as a political thinker and writer and brought him much attention of people beyond Virginia (Jefferson 1080). “Jefferson considered it society’s responsibility to identify intellectually gifted individuals and cultivate their talents, “which nature has sown as liberally among the poor and the rich” (Jefferson 1081).” He believes that people should be found based on them-selves not through others help. “Jefferson was a strong supporter of an agrarian-based economy in he United States that was built upon a class of small farmers with the individual ideals of civic responsibility, education, and religious freedom (Jefferson 1081).” Jefferson was the one that cared more about the one to one person
In Paine’s view, he envisioned a country where everyone had equal rights. Contrary to beliefs at the time, Paine was not obsessed with blaming the king for the travesties occurring in the colonies, rather he believed that the king was a tyrant himself. Paine believed that the rights of all people should be ensured and slavery should be abolished. Being born in England himself, the revolution was not so much about patriotism, rather a greater role in freedom and liberty.
Thomas Paine urged for the colonies to gain independence from Britain by going to war, in which Britain ruled over the colonies looking out for its financial benefits.
