The story of Chris McCandless portrayed in the story of Into the Wild is depicted quite differently between the film and novel interpretations of his story. Sean Penn, the director of the film and John Krakauer, the author of the novel illustrate Chris’ story not only introduces different styles but different perspective of the story as well. Due to altering points of views along with the different ways of representing McCandless’ life story, there are great variations on how his story is portrayed in the novel and film. First, the film and novel differ in the content they include and the order in which it is included in. The film is broken down into McCandless’ life story from high school to death with inclusions of his sisters perspective on how Chris lived his life. On the other hand, Krakauer includes Chris’ death from the start of the novel. From there Krakauer includes personal opinions and opinions from others, along with entries of McCandless’ journal to drive the story of his life. The movie does a significantly superior job in demonstrating the sequence of McCandless’ life and all the unique decision Chris makes. …show more content…

In contrast, from watching the movie, I believe it to be highly unbiased, just using the facts that are known about McCandless. Even though some of the information presented in the film comes from Krakauer, Penn did a robust job of minimizing the partialness. This being said although the novel introduces a more sane and reasonably personality in Chris, I believe the film to be a fairer treatment of Chris’ story and intent with his life. This is just another reason why the movie is a more productive depiction of Chris’ life and the situation he was
