Around the world, there are many countries that have their own distinct culture, ideas and, invention. At some point, there are one too many things that different countries have borrowed from each other making them similar. However, there are also specific qualities that set them apart from each other. If you take Ethiopia; a country located in East Africa, for example, and compare it with The United States, same as North America, there are many ways we can name their dissimilarities. For one, they are located in different continents so the weather, time zone, and calendar are very different. Also, Ethiopian Culture and North American do not meet in any way and when it comes to language and alphabet, they are like heaven and earth. Ethiopia is located in the Eastern part of Africa. To be exact, it is located in the horn of Africa. It is one of the most known countries for its unique heritage, buildings, and religion. It has mainly two seasons, which is the winter and summer. Unlike North America, Summer in Ethiopia is cold, rainy and foggy. On the other side, the Winter is where we get to have our, what they North American would call, Summer Vacation. …show more content…
North America used the 26 alphabets that make different sounds together. On the other side, Geez, which is the alphabet used in Ethiopia has 37 alphabets, each having 5 more letter that has different sounds that correspond to them. The Ethiopian Ge'ez alphabet is one of the reasons Ethiopia is a wide known country all around the world. It has made Ethiopia the first to have its own letter to write in. When we contrast the way the English Alphabet and Ge'ez are read, Ge'ez compresses two letters that make a sound into one letter, making words shorter. For example, In English, the word 'be' would be written as one letter word in Ge'ez but they still make the same
The cultures in these countries share some of the same characteristics but they also differ in others. One major comparison is when it comes to languages spoken. In each country there is a major variety. The United States primary language is english but other languages and dialects like spanish and french are also spoken.
Between the time period of 1492 to 1750, the regions of America and Africa, through the Columbian exchange, had experienced similarities in the spread of crops, people, and diseases, but differences when it came to the reason for change in population density, environmental change, and change of local ethnicities.
Imperialistic Europe differed strongly from that of the United States. Europeans focused on Social Darwinism; politicians felt that conquering underdeveloped territories was the best thing for the human race. The United States did not have as strong of views on imperialism that were expressed by Europeans. The United States imperialism differed from Europeans by the lack of pressure to join the movement from neighboring countries, sheer size, and the economic importance of conquering other territories.
As much as we may think our lives are so much different from others, there are many ways that they can be similar. I learned this in a novel called “The Other Side of the Sky: A Memoir” by Farah Ahmedi. Although the similarities of our cultures are there, the differences are obvious from the beginning. For example, the way we dress, what religions we believe in, and the food we eat. There are many different ways that our cultures compare, including our religion, how we eat, and our languages.
Around 3500 B.C.E to 3000 B.C.E., civilizations emerged in many places. Egypt and Mesoamerica are distinctive two of them. Considering the different aspects of civilization, historians can find some same characteristics and differences which are valuable for historians to understand civilization in-depth.
Sometimes alike and sometimes different, through these differences I have noticed that perspective on different cultures can be easily changed, by learning and getting to know them. Through the similarities I have noticed that all different kinds of culture can somewhat all relate to each other. Each one of them prospered in a time they didn’t know would end. And began when they didn’t know that we would be learning about them today. Differences and similarities don’t mean much when you get to know each of these interesting culture’s. All of them have contributed to the people we are today such as a small thing like using cacao beans for chocolate, to big architectural discoveries. In the end these civilizations are not so different or similar as one might
on what separates them instead of the similar qualities that united them like the country’s name
Growing up as a first generation Eritrean-American, I did not have anyone to lead the way for me. I am breaking barriers for the Eritrean community. Most Eritreans, like my parents, left their country, family, and belongings during the war to come to America as refugees. My parents had to start over and because of that, I was able to understand their struggle and sacrifices. It was hard for me to assimilate to American culture while living at home with a culture very different while I was young. As the years went by, I learned balance and found a culture of my own between the two cultures. I was disparate from many of the children at school because my parents were not born here. People assumed I was an immigrant and did not speak English because
To conclude, I would say that these two cultures are somewhat alike, but each has its own uniqueness and this it what makes the world interesting for us. Being able to learn about different cultures in this class is a good opportunity to open our eyes for what we have been missing out during this entire time.

Europe and Africa have been linked together in evaluating the state formation process. Both regions have similarities, strengths, weaknesses, and room for improvement. To this day both regions are far from perfect. Some light can be shed on this subject, by evaluating Europe and Africa’s state formation process, evaluating what party benefits, and briefly explaining two economic consequences of European colonialism in Africa.

The nations’ respective inspiration not only reflects on the appearance of their people, but in their fashion, lifestyle, and architecture. However, none of these visual characteristics crossed over to other nations. They remained exclusive to one nation alone as culture is “used to refer to shared values, beliefs, parties, products and norms of social groups.” (Cruz & Sonn,
Ethiopia an African country officially known as the Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and famously know as one of the oldest location of human life to scientists. Ethiopia is located in the horn of Africa (east of Africa). It is argued that Ethiopia was the only African country to defeat a European colonial power and retain its sovereignty as an independent country. It is argued that Ethiopia was conquered by Italy in 1935 and regained its independence in 1941 on the 5th of May and the ruler of that era was Halie Selassi. Ethiopia’s major economic contributor is the agriculture sector with a 46% of gross domestic product and a labour force of 85% by agriculture (Ethiopia’s gross domestic product by sector). Some of the Latin alphabet looks like “Á” and “É”. Obviously, they look like the modern English Alphabet. Regular alphabet is very similar to Latin script, and majority of the letters are based off it. To this day, almost all languages basically use the ABC alphabet or some variation to it when they write.
