American Revolution vs Everyone
What is the purpose of a revolution? To lose over half the population, fear for their everyday lives, and lose faith in the government’s protection? If so, then the French Revolution and the Haitian Revolution achieved this goal. The American Revolution, however, had a long lasting effect of freedom, independence, and equality. The American Revolution is the most successful revolution because it instilled values of equality and freedom without the extremity of violence in other revolutions such as the Haitian and French.
The American Revolution created a sense of freedom and equality. These are qualities that the French Revolution and the Haitian Revolution lacked. The Bill of Rights contained the first ten amendments

The Third Estate in the French Revolution, representing the lower class, did not have as much power as the upper class even though it made up nearly 24.5 million people. That is more than the first and second estate combined. Even after the Haitians won independence from France, they were still never completely “free”. Somehow, they were still seen as inferior to the caucasian people. The Haitian Constitution may have attempted to end racism in Haiti, but a piece of paper does not always change other’s opinions. The Americans were successful in establishing basic rights that inspired future revolutions and these same freedoms and rights are still guaranteed till this day. The Declaration of Independence is yet another powerful and classic Enlightenment text. It changed how the government functioned and addressed problems such as unfair taxes and human rights as well. This document inspired the other countries and made them realize that something needs to be done about their law system. The Haitian Constitution and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen are later both based off of the Declaration of Independence. The Americans were the first to successfully create a federal …show more content…
The American Revolution only lasted eight years, while the French Revolution lasted 11 years and the Haitians lasted 13 years. The longer the revolution, the more lives lost. With a decreased work force, less resources are being produced and products became limited. It can also lead to a decline in the economy since prices may increase due to the demand for resources needed in everyday life such as food or medicine. Approximately, Approxiamately 50,000 lives were lost during the American Revolution, which, compared to the other two is nothing. Nearly 140,000 people in France were killed and 162,000 lives were lost during the Haitian Revolution. The amount of deaths during this time period was extremely traumatizing and frightening to everyone. Citizens lived in fear everyday, knowing that each day there was a chance that it could be their last. Nobody felt safe anywhere. American battle tactics were also a lot less violent compared to the Haitian and French Revolutions. They mainly used Guerilla warfare and simple weapons for their battles. The Haitians were extremely unorganized and would just attack the farmers with bats, swords, and even hung them. The French used extreme tactics such as the guillotine to behead thousands of victims that ranged from common criminals to kings and queens. Peasants even burned and attacked Manor houses. Everything was out of control and nobody could
Americans went through a long and difficult journey before they were truly able to be free from England. Colonists in America fought in the American Revolution to terminate British rule; the battle for independence continued with the War of 1812. Although all the odds were against the Americans, they managed to be victorious in both wars by rebelling, standing up to British threat, and strategizing.
Haiti has also lost many lives as an outcome of the revolutions, especially in the slave revolts and battles with French soldiers sent by Napoleon. In addition, the Haitian Revolution leader L’Ouverture died in captivity in France.
The American Revolution and French Revolution were two long lasting uprisings that had great value to those battling for their rights and want they wanted to change. Yet there are a few distinctions details set them apart in a small way. The Americans wanted a change in their government, but the French wanted a huge change in everything including their government, religion, social structure (whereas American’s social system stayed the same) and economy. Other than the few differences they had, they two Revolutions were much alike, basically twin revolutions.
The colonists had been unfairly taxed and had no been allowed to represent their opinions in Parliament so they sought justice for the inequalities they endured. The revolution was the institution of the independence and equality of our democratic country, the United States of America. Without the problems that arose in the late 18th century causing the revolution to take place, there might not be the openness of sovereignty there is now.
The Enlightenment period in Europe was a shift in the way that society thought about power and liberty. The ideals of this period helped to inspire the revolutions of the 18th century. The American colonies desired liberty from foreign rule, the French wanted to increase the power of the people in their class structure, and the Haitians fought for representation for the millions of slaves on their island. While the ideas of the enlightenment were not fully employed in each of these revolutions, they brought the nations closer to a fully representative government, rather than one of absolute power. The American revolution was a reaction to unfavorable tax policies from the King of England.
Finally, the biggest contrast between the American and French Revolution was the difference in the outcomes of the two. The American Revolution brought liberty and justice for all. It created the first Republic since Rome. The French rev...
Revolution is briefly described as an attempt to overthrow a government to start a new one. The American Revolution took place between 1775 and 1783 and was a fight for American Independence from England. In 1764, the first of many “Intolerable Acts” were passed. The British Parliament began to excise tax on the American colonies without representation, sparking the great conflict. The British were continuing to incorporate new ways to make more money. England was the most powerful country at the time with an intimidating military, so this wasn’t a hard task to complete. The American Revolution was very Revolutionary because, it jump started the abolition of slavery, it brought about many political and social advances, and served as a stepping stone towards a democracy and a strong centralized government.
What would happen if the American Revolution never happened? Would the colonists still be under control of Britain? Would the 13 colonies still be only colonies? How would the Native Americans lives be today? Was the American Revolution really revolutionary and did it bring radical change within the colonists lives and was more helpful than harmful? Although America gained freedom from defeating Britain in the Revolutionary War, it was more harmful than helpful because of treatment of the Native Americans, slaves, and the fact that government didn’t improve.
Many revolutions have taken place throughout history, ranging from the unremarkable to the truly memorable, such as the French Revolution, the Bolshevik Revolution and the American Revolution. Through an examination of the social, cultural, economic and political causes of the American Revolution, an exploration of key arguments both for and against the American Revolution, and an analysis of the social, cultural, economic and political changes brought about by the American Revolution it can be demonstrated unequivocally that the American Revolution was indeed truly revolutionary.
Another aspect to keep in mind when comparing the French and American revolutions is provocation. Provocation includes such things as land war, class war, tyranny, and grievances. The American Revolution had many altercations with social classes and land. One reason the revolution began was because the British created the Proclamation of 1763, which stated that Americans couldn't move east of the Appalachian Mountains. Land was abundant in America, but the British were tired of battles amongst themselves and the Native Americans.
The Glorious revolution was a changing point in the course of history. It was the first revolution of its kind which led to many more like the American revolution. There were many similarities between the Glorious and American revolution, John Locke played a key role in both revolutions, and Locke’s ideas were mirrored in the Declaration of Independence.
The American Revolution shaped all of these issues throughout the time period. It shows how radical our government turned out to be. These impacts came to show America that we can be independent and control our own nation. I think that the American Revolution helped turned our country around for the good. It helped America gain the responsibility it needed in order to become an independent nation. Without the independence they gained during this time, we would not stand where we are today. It shaped our country in many ways that became helpful to us later down the road.
Throughout history, countless uprisings have occurred. Historians classify any forcible overthrow of a government or social order in favor of a new system as a revolution. The success or failure of a revolution is directly related to the revolution’s causes and courses. The French Revolution was more successful than the Nicaraguan Revolution, because the Nicaraguan Revolution left the country in social and financial ruin, foreign powers had much greater interference, and it precipitated a period of political unrest with multiple leadership changes.
The American Revolution was so much more than just a war, or a time in history. It was a time where America grew, and as the name suggests, revolutionized their way of thinking and governing. It was a time for some great thinkers to get their ideas out there, and these ideas helped shape America into what it is today. These revolutionary thinkers shared their ideas publicly, and that gave the people ways to revolutionize their thoughts as well. They flipped what they knew about government upside down.
The American Revolution marked the divorce of the British Empire and its one of the most valued colonies. Behind the independence that America had fought so hard for, there emerged a diverging society that was eager to embrace new doctrines. The ideals in the revolution that motivated the people to fight for freedom continued to influence American society well beyond the colonial period. For example, the ideas borrowed from John Locke about the natural rights of man was extended in an unsuccessful effort to include women and slaves. The creation of state governments and the search for a national government were the first steps that Americans took to experiment with their own system. Expansion, postwar depression as well as the new distribution of land were all evidence that pointed to the gradual maturing of the economic system. Although America was fast on its way to becoming a strong and powerful nation, the underlying issues brought about by the Revolution remained an important part in the social, political and economical developments that in some instances contradicted revolutionary principles in the period from 1775-1800.
