Judaism vs. Catholicism
Judaism is deeply ingrained in the catholic tradition. It is part of our history. If you think about it the first half of the catholic history is the faith of judaism. We are essentially the jewish community that aren’t waiting for the messiah to come to earth. Christianity emerged from judaism. How we celebrate mass, where we got our traditions, and how we celebrate those traditions and events have some parallels to the Jewish faith. These are important to understand in order to understand our own faith of catholicism.
The description of God between the two faiths is similar in nature. They both believe in a monotheistic faith, or having only one God. Judaism however does not believe in a sort of trinity. Christians
believe there are three components in one God, or the trinity. We both believe that there is no evil force or power that is equivalent to the power of God. There is no God of evil, only a God of good and pure. We can’t talk about the trinity discussion without talking about the jewish view on Jesus. Our second component in the trinity is the son, Jesus. Judaism believes that Jesus was not the messiah or God incarnate. They believe that whether he was a good teacher or a good person or not, he was still 100% human. For Jews, sins are removed not by Jesus' penance but rather by looking for contrition. For them, seeking forgiveness you have to atone to the victim of the sin. In catholicism, Jesus replaced the law of the Torah. The torah is the sacred scripture of Judaism. The christian sacred book is the bible. The first half of the bible, the old testament, is in the torah. The first half of our sacred text is a part of Jewish sacred text. The similarities within the physical part of the faith is obvious but the beliefs and tradition is similar as well. Judaism does not acknowledge the idea of original sin. the notion that people, specifically children, are inherently evil and you can't wipe it away until an act of grace given by Jesus. For Christians, there are no different types of salvation and penance without Jesus.

The major similarities that all three religions share are that they are all monotheistic. This all means that they believe in one god and that he is the supreme ruler of all things. They also believe that all things are created equal under one God. They all have books of what they believe to be God's word. The Jews have their book known as the Torah.

The place of worship between Catholics and Christians are different in the sense that Christians are conducted in a church setting or small gatherings can also be conducted in people’s homes, Catholics have a more formal service with the church being the majority part of the Catholic mass. The conception of God in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam is monotheism, the belief in the existence of a single indivisible God. The three of religions maintains that there is only one God, who is active in and concerned about the world. These religions are also patriarchal, male-dominated, which has resulted in God being described as “He.” However, how Christians, Judaism and Islam conceptualize God in their respective theologies is actually quite different. Christians believe God is infinite, omnipotent, all-powerful, perfect, personal, eternal, unchanging, holy, all-knowing, and all-loving. Their idea of God is shown in the belief of the Trinity. God is one, but with three aspects: God is Father, the creator, ruler, and sustainer of all life, and divine judge; God is the Son, who is Jesus, God made incarnate and savior of humanity; and the Holy Spirit, who is God working in the world. Both Muslims and Christians love and respect Jesus, however, the major difference between Islam and Christianity is the Christians insistence on the supposed divinity of Christ. In Christian scriptures, God never claimed divinity while the emphasis in the Islamic theology of God is “absolute unity;” God is sublimely one. Muslims think that by believing in the Trinity, Christians believe in three Gods. For them, God is One God. Judaism views the existence of God as a necessary prerequisite for the existence of the universe, and the existence of the universe is sufficient proof of the existence of God.
