Compare And Contrast Assyrian And American Life

Growing up in a life that is different from a traditional American life subsequently adds to my perspective on life. My family is Assyrian and they are proud of it. They basically have created their own Assyrian country within California and other various states. I have been introduced to both the American lifestyle and the Assyrian lifestyle. Both lifestyles differ from each other greatly. Experiencing both has greatly changed who I am and what I do. However, my life as an Assyrian has had its great times but it has had some very terrible ones.

As an Assyrian, religion is an important part of my life. In fact, my father is a priest and that obviously has had a massive impact on my life. I’ve went to church almost every Sunday in the past

and even go once or twice a month currently. Unfortunately, recent events and conflicts between my church and other churches has made it very difficult for our church to progress. My father, as the head of our church, has been put through a lot with fights, court cases, etc. Living with my dad and viewing what is happening in his life really is eye opening because it conveys multiple messages about life. It has shown me Good versus Evil and what is the outcome of it and who benefits in the end of the fight. I have seen how there are some people that will do anything to stop others, even if it is illegal or against their morals My father has experienced this many times with people trying different ways to ruin his image and reputation as a priest and a human being. It is terrible, but at least I was able to witness it firsthand in order to grasp an opinion on it. Also, I have seen how friends and families have been torn apart by this situation. I actually had friends at the church who I used to hang out with and talk, however, they started to drift away as the situation progressed into something larger and their families had started to take sides against our church. This has had a great impact on my life because I was extremely close to those friends, yet I may never see them ever again just because of differing opinions between their families and mine. Therefore, these incidents have made my life struggle even more, but I have learned morals and life messages from them.
I do not want to make the lifestyle of an Assyrian conveyed as something unsatisfactory. There are benefits from being an Assyrian such as amazing food, music, and it is an overall great culture, however, complications from my life have arisen due to the fact of my family and the culture of Assyrians. I have lost friends, family, and many other things because of our religion and ethnicity. Losing these has greatly impacted my life, yet I have learned from them. I have learned that, eventually, the good will prosper and to think and worry about yourself more than others. Also, I have learned how terrible some people can be just to ruin others’ reputations and lives.
