I have read the book All Summer In A Day by Ray Bradbury. This text is about people who lived on Venus and on Venus, it has been raining for seven years. All of this rain has made the sun incapable of coming out. Today, the scientist believed that the sun was coming out today. A girl, named Margot, wanted to see the sun again because back when she lived on Earth, she saw it every day. She also believes that the sun is going to come out today. William and the other classmates didn’t believe Margot about the sun coming out today. They bullied Margot because of this and they have made a huge impact on Margot’s life. Luella took Roger to her house and took care of him for the day. Roger felt cared for and Luella treated Roger as her son. They both reveal their life to each other and Roger’s life was impacted in a good way. Both “All Summer In A Day” and “Thank You Ma’am” deal with the environment and how it helps or hurts your future, but they do so in different ways. Both of the texts show that the environment can help or hurt the future in similar ways. In All Summer In A Day, Margot gets bullied because her peers thinks she is wrong. They tell Margot that the sun isn’t coming out today and that she is dishonest. The text states, “‘You’re lying, you don’t remember!’ cried the children.” This shows that the children disagreed with Margot and they didn’t believe her but Margot still wanted to see the sun. The author includes, “‘All a joke!’ said the boy, and seized her roughly. ‘Hey everyone, let’s put her in the closet before the teacher comes!’ ‘No,’ said Margot, falling back.” When the author includes this in the story, William and the classmates lock Margot in the closet. Both texts has had their environment affect their future. They have either been affected in a good or bad way but, their environment really affected their future. Both of these text include environmental problems but they have been displayed in different ways. In the text Thank You Ma’am, Roger mugged old ladies at night. One day he tried to mug Luella but, she stopped him and brought him back to her house. Luella affected Roger’s future by telling him the right path to follow and to earn your money and not steal. Finally, the text All Summer In A Day. Margot wanted to see the sun again but it was difficult for her to achieve that goal. Two environmental problems prevented her to do this. First, Margot’s classmates didn’t believe her and was jealous. Following their jealousy, Margot’s classmates locked Margot in the closet and Margot was unable to see the sun when it came out. The second environmental problem was Margot’s parents, as well as the weather. Margot moved with her family to live on Venus. Lots of clouds and rain has appeared on Venus for the past seven years. This prevents the sun coming out which has an even bigger impact on Margot since it’s more difficult to see the sun. In the story it says, “About how it was like a lemon, it was, and how hot . . . I think the sun is a flower, That blooms for just one hour.” This connects back to my idea that outcasts are sometimes the solution to society’s problems. Due to this quote, Margot’s statement about the sun is what makes her an outsider in the eyes of society. Later in the passage, it is revealed that Margot’s statement about the sun was correct and solved the problem of what the children think the sun resembles.
The short story All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury is about bad judgement and illustrates the effect it can have on one's actions. All Summer in a Day is about the story of a girl named Margot and life on Venus. The story takes place on Venus the day before the Sun will finally come out, and this day proves especially challenging for Margot. The Sun only comes out once every seven years, and this leads to Margot suffering at the hands of her fellow classmates. Throughout the story, there are times when Margot is shoved, insulted and abandoned by the school children of Venus and these points prove how bad judgement prevails over other themes to be the main idea.
Both the films, The Blind Side and Rudy, address many common issues. Two in particular that stand out are education and sports. Both Michael Oher and Daniel Ruettiger (Rudy) pursue their education in order to follow their dreams. In these cases, both dreamed of becoming college football players. The long journeys they take to reach their goals bring out each characters motivation and dedication to get to the top.
In both stories, however, edify human over dependency on technology lead to dismiss basic living skills, oust humanity, and eventually lead to mankind devastate. Bradbury and Forster both accentuate the absurd life, colourless generation, and mindlessness world we may end up when technology is dominant over humanity, when machine is controlling our lives. Bradbury writes, “…even as the sun rose to shine upon the heaped rubble and steam (Bradbury 4)”, after the fire accidence destroys the house, the sun still rises. The rising sun is an allusion to rebirth, and a new start, which implies chances for human. Similarly, Forster writes, “Humanity has learnt its lesson. In Ray Bradbury’s all summer in a day, teaches readers that being a bully doesn't get you anywhere. Bullying people doesn't make anyone feel good. When the kids locked Margot in the closet they were being selfish and making Margot feel bad about something that was completely out of her control. Some people might think that it's fair Margot was in the closet. locking Margot in the closet and bullying her to the kids was fair, therefore, Margot is partially to blame because she had seen the sun and almost rubbed it in the other kids faces. some might think that it's fair because she has seen the sun and remembered what it looks like. I believe people who are disturbed can love another person, although it is not in the way people want to be loved. In Rita Dove’s “Daystar,” Dove describes an unnamed mother’s repetitive and exhausting daily routine to reflect the unsatisfying role that women play in society.
