I myself, a high school student, should in fact be required to do community service to graduate high school. The amount of volunteers are dropping at a rapid rate when it should be increasing. Students have become more and more lazy throughout the years, and doing community service will help them to get up and go outside to enjoy life and all the things around them that they haven't been aware of because their face has been stuck in a television/phone screen. Many students who have volunteered loved it because not only did they get to meet new people, but they also learned that they were actually making a difference with what they did. The students who do community service will better understand how to be a leader, which is very important for when they go into the real world. Students also get a great attitude, they will go from feeling that they "can't" do something, to the fact that they CAN do things as long as they work hard for. Every high school student faces tough decisions, and most of the time they give up on it because they feel they "can't" do it. Becoming a volunteer will change that attitude around and it will help them to realize that they can tackle any of these tough problems …show more content…
You get to meet new people, work with new organizations, and strengthen their ties to the community. This helps get students out of the house and participate in something that will help prepare them for something big, like their future. Having students do community service is just gonna help them a lot, and who wouldn't want help? Who would want to go into the real world and not be prepared at all? Nobody. Students may want to do some things on their own, but not something as big as going into the real world, they need a little push towards the right direction, and community service will help with
Imagine a typical teen, they have a job, homework, sports, and other extracurriculars. They don’t get home till late at night and they are exhausted. This teen can take much more and thankfully they are about to graduate, but wait the school wants them to fit in one hundred of community service into that schedule in order to graduate. How on earth is this busey teen suppose to do that with all that they have going on? Students should not have to do one hundred hours of community service to graduate high school.
If schools wanted to encourage community service then they shouldn’t force students to do it. Schools should let students know about volunteering opportunities and possibly let them sign up for the school so that it is easier for them to do so if they want
The effect community service has on both the school and the student are, in most cases, negative, strictly because of the ‘forced’ aspect of it. Students should not have to feel enslaved when trying to pass high school, especially since many other school districts do not have a
I felt as if I was able to make a change even though it wasn't a major change. I also loved working with kids of all ages ranging from kindergarten to 8th grade. They all brought a different personality which I enjoyed. Overall, volunteering anywhere helps someone make a change in someones life and their own even though they may not notice it. There are many people who are in need of volunteers all the time and not many people get the opportunity to volunteer during their lifetime.
Community service is a common service for people to take care of each other and volunteer. People apply to different community services: soup kitchen, taking care of children and homeless people, clinics, churches, schools, neighbor's house and many countless places to volunteer. Some people really enjoy to work at community services while others do not. These community services can be a punishment for criminals because a court assigns them to do so. However, some people do not agree with community service supporters. While some people believe that there should be a community service requirement for high school and college graduation because students need to learn and have experiences there, they are right; on the other hand, a community service requirement should be allowed for two reasons and not be allowed for another three reasons.
Community Service is a service that is performed for the benefit of the public or its institutions. There are two groups who perform community service, and those are criminals and the rest of us. This means that, for the majority of us, performing community service is completely voluntary. It is for this reasons li that I believe that community service should not be mandatory in high school for graduation. The supporters of this act think of it as an ideal society’s noble concept, but it is rather a noble concept trying to force an ideal society. When you look at it from this perspective you realize it is ironic.
Community service: What a wonderful opportunity for students! A chance for our younger citizens to learn responsibility, experience the satisfaction that comes with helping others and to acquire new skills.
Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment. Most of all, it allows you to become a better person for what you have
...teer experience. I highly recommend volunteering to anyone, because of all the great things it will teach and because of the positive impacts it make on one’s life. Volunteering will teach an individual many of life’s greatest lessons, and lets an individual grow into a better person. Volunteering teaches to let go of their ignorance and false notions of world problems and lets the volunteer learn about the real, and sometimes unattractive, condition of people in the world. Many people think that one person cannot make a difference in the world, but volunteering teaches a person to at least try to make a difference in one person’s life and to build on that. Additionally, volunteering teaches a person to be leader who can inspire others to volunteer. Volunteering is an incredibly didactic experience that will forever inspire the volunteer to be a better person.
In an article written by Linda Saslow titled High School Mandating Community Service for Graduation, she mentions the many pros to mandatory community service. Saslow mentions school districts like Roslyn and Hewlett-Woodmere (1994, para 3) that have started requiring high school students to complete a certain number of community service hours in order to graduate high school. Their goal is to give “kids the opportunity for new experiences” (Saslow, 1994, para 4). Through research conducted by the school districts, they have come to the conclusion that students who would’ve been “too shy to volunteer have admitted that they were glad they had been forced”. This is good because it’s bringing students together and really opening them up to new
Mandatory Volunteering+ Students= Too Much Work There are many controversial issues around the world. Some people do their jobs while others prefer to help people by volunteering. Volunteering is a freely offer from people to do something without being asked to other people. However, volunteering has become mandatory in many schools. Students are requested to volunteer in order to graduate from high schools.
I believe that volunteering as a graduation requirement defeats the purpose of volunteering, But the community benefits from the requirement. Now I wanna state in no way am I bashing community services, I have no problem with it at all. But under certain circumstance it wouldn't work as a graduation requirement. And sadly it's also time consuming and may cause transportation issues and it ruins the purpose because volunteer literally mean a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task.
Over generations a common question has arose, should students be required to do community service to graduate? Although opinions differ from state to state and school district to school district, the simplest and almost obvious answer is, yes. High school students should have to do a certain amount of community service in order to graduate because it is morally beneficiary and enjoyable there's quite honestly no good reason not to demand it. The Dalton Schools say community service "stimulates our moral center" therefore helping to shape us into good citizens of any society.
Have you ever thought about whether high school students should have to do a certain amount of community service throughout high school? I believe that if a student wishes to do community service it should be decided on their own and be done on their own time. I think that some students in high school have a full plate with school, their homework, their home life and also if they have a job. First of all, doing community service shouldn’t be forced upon someone.
Mandating community service for high school graduation was the best idea anyone could ever invent. Its a very useful, promising, and beneficial experience that every teen should want to be a part of. Volunteering gives people a sense of fulfilment, and the joy of knowing that so many people need help and being able to be that person to render those services make a better person. Community service should not be a burden for any teenager, but a special gift being giving to the community by a special individual. Community service should be a mandatory high school graduation requirement because it builds ones character, limits the rate of teenage delinquency, and establishes a path for a better future as an individual.
