Community Service Community service is something that you do out of the goodness of your heart to help the community and those around you. There are many things you could do for community service such as: volunteer at nonprofit organizations, mentor those that need help, pick up litter, and anything that will benefit the community in some way. Something that has been happening across the states is that schools are incorporating community service into the graduation requirements. Although some may say that this isn't something that should be required, i believe that it would be good for every student to experience. It could teach your student hard word, kindness, and it would be a humbling experience. Community service is doing something …show more content…
This would entitle walking the animals, showing them love and attention, and lastly helping care for the living areas. Most of these places are a nonprofit organization, which means that they can use all the help that they can get. For this reason, something as little as one student going out for a day and helping in any way that they could, can make a big difference for those who run the shelter as well as the animals at the shelter. I would choose this as my community service project because it has to do with something I love and I would actually feel as though I was making a real difference. It's important to feel as though you're having a real effect on someone of something when you are doing a community service project; in the end the whole reason behind doing community service is so that you can do something helpful out of the goodness of your heart and not expect anything in return. With animals they need love and affection just as much as you and I do therefore it would be important to go and show those animals some sort of …show more content…
The main reason i would choose this as my community service project is because I would directly be making a difference in another person's life. The average american is use to eating every meal along with snacks throughout the day; most of us can't even begin to imagine what it is like to not get fed regularly. Imagine not having food and waking up wondering the next time you will sleep in a bed and have all three meals. For me, I have always being intrigued by homeless people for the reason that they all have a different story to tell. They are normal people who have gone through more emotional and physical struggle then many of us will ever have to go through. This would be something that would make me feel better about myself for helping those in need, and potentially help humble me and remind me of things that I should be thankful for. This would be a great opportunity to not only make a difference for those that are homeless but also for myself; we all take the things given to use for
Many service projects have had an impact on my life, but the significant one is the time that our group put together Blessing Bags. The Blessing Bags were bags put together for homeless people. This project had an impact on my life because at one point in time, my family struggled. We did not have a stable home and we had to continue movie because of the living expenses. It is very difficult to buy many products that are needed for personal hygiene, especially if someone does not have a stable home. There are many people that live in the streets and it breaks my heart. Whenever I see homeless people, I give them what I can. Although my family did not become homeless, I could not imagine living in the streets without any food, clothing, or products
Community service occurs when a group of people comes to work together for the benefit of an institution. For instance, the Houston Food Bank may be a requirement for schools, but it helps aid those in need. These all tie together because they show how a group of people can learn from their experience. These have differences, though. For example, while volunteering is just doing a good deed for the community, service learning is actually learning from this experience. Volunteering is also different from community service, because volunteering is broader than community service. These do have similarities though; for instance, a lesson can be learned from both service learning and volunteering, though it is not requirement for volunteering. Volunteering is more for the good of nature to help others. Community service can be similar to service learning because they are both ways of providing a service to the community or a particular
I am a 17 year old senior in high school and was asked to participate in creating and executing a community service project. My first reaction is to talk to my mother, she is very involved in the community and would have some good ideas. The one that stood out to me was doing a coat drive! Last year we did a small one that ended up providing mostly adult women’s coats. This year an organization that I’ve been a part of for four years, HOSA, is doing a coat drive and I’ve asked if I could piggy back on their project. The person in charge of the coat drive is Bailey Clark, she is the current president of HOSA. HOSA is a great organization that prepares high school students for working in the medical community after graduating.
I chose to do my service learning project at Feed My Starving Children. I chose this service learning project because I had prior knowledge and experience by doing it with my family and church. Feed My Starving Children has been a huge impact to those who have participated in this service experience because their mission is to pack meals that go to very hungry children around the world. Being from a single parent family, it is hard for us to not be concerned about where the money for food is coming from, yet we have food on our tables for everyday meals. Therefore, I can’t imagine what it is like for those who experience hunger.
I finally got exposure to the low-income families with my grandfather. My grandfather is the person who got me involved in the Habitat work. He is a retired construction teacher and he has taught me many carpentry and handyman skills. I have done a Blitz Build before and I enjoyed it very much. I love doing that type of work and it is even more fun when I get to help out a family with my skills. At Clemson I got to practice these skills once again when my English class helped work on a Habitat house. Now we are assisting the actual Habitat organization by making a promotional brochure. I think that all students should get involved with an organization such as Habitat for Humanity. Doing this will bring them to a closer understanding of what it is like to live in a low income or even homeless family.
Kant and Mill both try to decide whether the process of doing something is distinguished as right or wrong. They explain that right or wrong is described as moral or immoral. In the writings of Grounding for the Metaphysics of morals Kant says that you only need to “act only according to the maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law” (Kant, 30). Kant then states that a practical principal for how far the human will is concerned is thereby a categorical imperative, that everyone then is necessarily an end, and the end in itself establishes an objective principal of the will and can aid as a practical law (36). Mill on the other hand has the outlook that the greatest happiness principle, or utilitarianism, is that happiness and pleasure are the freedom from pain (Mill, 186). With these principles we will see that Kant and Mill correspond and contradict each other in their moral theories.
Over the years I have been very involved in my community and school. Being a part of something helps to define who you are as a person and the principles and values you hold as important. A personal experience that helps to show my talents and skills can be illustrated by my trip to Italy last April with the MHS Language Department.
The effect community service has on both the school and the student are, in most cases, negative, strictly because of the ‘forced’ aspect of it. Students should not have to feel enslaved when trying to pass high school, especially since many other school districts do not have a
Community service means helping people who are in need and not excepting anything in return. It is very important because it teaches you how to work with different people and it helps you and the person you are helping. There are always places in the community that are in need of volunteers. The organization I chose to volunteer at was BAPS, also known as Bochasan Vasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha.
Community Service is a great opportunity to make a difference in the area you live in. There are so many ways to volunteer. Some people are given chances to do community service when they need to pay off fines for tickets. Most people simply do because they love getting involved. It’s their way of making the community a cleaner, healthier place.
In eleventh grade when it was time to sit down and pick electives, I remember thinking to myself ‘which elective will be the easiest’. I thought ‘Non Profit Ventures for certain’. Non Profit Ventures is a class that teaches students how to start and run a non profit organization with hands on experience. Our teacher is the head of the Santa Clarita Valley/ Antelope Valley chapter of Project Linus. Project Linus, based off of the peanuts character: Linus, is an organization that distributes brand new, homemade blankets for critically ill children. My young mind thought ‘wow, a class just for making blankets, how easy’. Non Profit Ventures is no where near easy as I thought it was going to be. Twice a year our class puts together our annual
Community service: What a wonderful opportunity for students! A chance for our younger citizens to learn responsibility, experience the satisfaction that comes with helping others and to acquire new skills.
When I think about the person I want to become I think about a kind person who wants to make a difference in the world. I want to help and Inspire others and In general just make this world a more positive and loving place. The personal project was an opportunity to not only do something for myself but for others. By doing this I would be able to reach my goal of being the person I wish to become someday by helping others and spreading my positivity. I decided on feeding the homeless because with this I would be able to help others in need and hopefully inspire or make them happy. Feeding the homeless won 't necessarily change the world, but small acts of kindness like this might inspire other people to do them too and If everyone decided to
Though, the concept of community service is not very new its importance has developed in the past few years. There are thousands of organizations all over the world that engage and hold millions of young people all through the world. People of all age groups, with a maximum number of youth are involved in the process of community service. Community-based organizations include; social service organizations, non-profit providers and associations that engage both young people as well adults as volunteers. The process is beneficial both for the individuals as well as the society. Without community service people would not know the meaning of charity and giving back. Community service can be defined as a service that is performed for the benefit of the public. Community service is not a responsibly or an obligation; it is a commitment. A person must want to do it with good intentions and not because they are being forced to do so. Basically, community service is a way for a person to give back to a community in which they live.
Not only do they assist homeless people and families, but they provide a warm meal to whoever is hungry. You can sense that this is a good place not only by the number of volunteers and the welcoming faces, but also by the attitudes of the people who are obtaining the assistance. If this location was closer to my home, I would most definitely continue volunteering. I think this is a good experience to continue with future students. I feel it provides you with an outlook to the obstacles of ones future students that might be encountering homeless. If you never experiences something or knows very little of a situation then how would someone be able to best handle the situation at hand. I think being involved in the community one way or another helps teacher understand their student environment and what obstacles they might encounter in their everyday
