Introduction on Research and Community Health Research is rendered as a tool to provide people with information and used to coincide with experimentation. “Basic research aims to expand the knowledge by formulating, evaluating, or expanding a theory” (Neutens, 2014), and “applied research aims to solve practical problems, although it uses the same characteristic as basic research” (Neutens, 2014). Overall presence of research is to increase one’s general knowledge on different subjects. While gaining knowledge through research, it is also conducted to benefit others depending on the specific topic of research. Community Health is known as the study of clinical and medical services focusing on the population. The workers in the community …show more content…
In most of the information CHWs share, comes from the research of specific subjects. For many cases research assistants are used to obtain the data that is relevant and prevalent at the time. Some CHWs work on research teams, “they may function as research assistants, educators, or interventionists” (Hohl, 2016). This shows the roles may overlap CHWs as researchers or researchers as CHWs. “Studies describing CHW involvement in research have qualitatively examined the role of CHWs in specific research studies and have contributed much to the understanding of CHW participation in individual research projects” (Hohl, 2016). The role of a researcher and a CHW coincide whether it is obtaining the information or spreading the …show more content…
CHWs research the information they educate, and researchers use CHWs to spread the word on their studies. All creating a noticeable need and necessity for both research and community health. Pertaining to all of the information above it is clear that Community Health and research are relevant to each other. In the Community Health field research is conducted to obtain accurate information and improve health outcomes. References Hohl, S. D., Thompson, B., Krok-Schoen, J. L., Weier, R. Research is defined as systematic investigation in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions (OUP, 2014). The biopsychosocial model has already been described.

Diagnosing and investigating health problems and health hazards in the community. Informing, educating and empowering the people about health issues. Mobilizing community partnerships to identify and solve health problems. Health assessments also develop policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts. They also enforce laws and regulations that help protect health and ensure safety (Thivierge, 2016). Assessments link people to needed personal health services and assure the provision of health care when otherwise unavailable. Public health assessments can help to assure the public of the competency of the public health and personal health care workforce. These assessments evaluate effectiveness, accessibility and quality of personal and population-based health services (Thivierge,

According to Allender, Rector, and Warner (2014), public health is a combination of both an art and a science (2014). The mission of public health nursing is to promote health, prevent disease and ultimately prolong life (Allender et al., 2014). In order for this to occur an assessment must take place. An aggregate or community assessment begins with a collection of data. This includes: the community’s health needs, risks, environmental conditions, financial resources through local census data, and a windshield survey (Allender et al., 2014). Through public health nursing, communities can collectively come together to help promote an overall better health standing.
A community can be defined as a group of people, who live, learn, work and play in an environment at a given time. (Yiu, 2012, p.213) There are many factors that may influence the community’s development and health status. These can include resources available, accessibility, transportation, safety, community needs etc… These influences may combine together to form community strengths and as well as community challenges or weaknesses. As a community health care nurse, it is significant for us to assess and identify these strengths and challenges within the community in order for us to intervene and provide the appropriate needed health care services for the community members. This individual scholarly paper will explore and focus on one challenge issue identified from our group community assessment.

For nursing, research has played a major role in the way clinical practice is done. Research has allowed nurses to provide appropriate care to patients. It allows them to perform their job by providing them the tools and information they need in order to make the decisions on the concerns for caring the patient (Polit & Beck, 2006). Moreover, research can also take focus on the workers themselves in order to improve the practice both on a professional and personal level. An example of a study conducted by King, Vidourek, and Schweibert of University of Cincinnati created a study to determine if there is a correlation between ...

The purpose of this paper is to perform an assessment of my community, Circleville, Ohio. According to Nies and McEwen, it is crucial for a community health nurse to perform a community health assessment in order to care for patients the best way possible (2015). Throughout this paper I will discuss important factors of a community. The topics that I will discuss include a brief history of Circleville, demographic information, epidemiological data, health problems, and lastly I will identify a community health diagnosis.
