>>What information was presented? What did you want the community to “take away” from the event? The sexual assault awareness event was an incredible experience. We were able to engage in our communities in which we live by going to places of business and other community organizations these places allowed us put up flyer to advertise our event. We were hoping that this would be a good way to give details about our event and to encourage people to attend and bring information to people about some myths and facts about sexual assault. Also, to give people resources on where they can go if they have been sexually assaulted or know of someone who has been sexually assaulted. When we first decided on sexual assault

We came up with a T-shirt design of a picture of an open eye with the slogan See The Need Report Sexual Assault. We offered the T-shirts in either gray or white. Then, we thought about how the social work organization had a great turn out last year with a bake sale, so this was our next project. We got permission to sell T-shirts and have a bake sale at school. Next, was planning how we would raise awareness about sexual assault and get those in the community involved, while gaining knowledge and helping to raise funds for this worthy cause. The night before the event we stayed up late and constructed cue cards with statistical fact and myths about sexual assault, stuff bags with resource pamphlets, baked, and drew pictures for the silent auction. Weeks prior to the event we secured a place to host the event and obtained a speaker with a expertise in sexual assault forensics. The day of the event we had a table set up for a silent auction, a table set up for the baked goods, one with the cue cards, T-shirts for sell, and a table set up for the man to make paracord bracelets. Since there was only two of us in our group we had to ask family and friends to help us. We had one person greeting people walking in and giving them a blue or green bag that contained educational material on sexual assault, a ticket to win a door prize, and small prizes. We had another person helping to run the Plinko game, that a lumber company donated the material for and Selena's friend built for us; to let people win prizes. Kem and I would take turns on helping to greet people, as well, as talking to them about sexual assault. We discussed the material that was written on the cards and other information that we researched and ask their permission if they would let us take a picture of them with the cue
In what is sure to be a very solemn matter for all American students and their families across the country , in January 2013 , President Obama, the office of the Vice President and the White House Council on Women and Girls converged and issued a renewed call to action against rape and sexual assault report which analyzes the most recent reliable data about this issue and identifies who are the most in peril victims of this malefaction, investigates the costs of this violence both for victims and communities , and describes the replication very often inadequate of the US malefactor equity system.
Sexual assault is defined as “any type of sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the explicit consent of the recipient.” (“Sexual Assault”, 2nd heading). An average of 237,868 Americans (ages 12+) are sexually assaulted per year. This translates to an american being sexually assaulted every two minutes. This does not even include all of the children who are victims of sexual assault. The government has tried to combat these appallingly high statistics with various pieces of legislature, including Title IX.
According to Campus Sexual Assault: Suggested Policies and Procedures “the consequences of sexual assault can be very serious.” This means that it can lead to many outcomes which one could be hospitalization. The effects on sexual assault on a person can be very traumatic and it can be difficult for some people to overcome it. Another concern that they have stated is pregnancy, STD’s and HIV. The reason they are concerned about this which could certainties be a consequence of sexual assault is because not many girls want to go through with this because they were violated and they might not be able to take care of this child well. They might have to worry if they got an STD’s from them because they might as well have a sexual transmitted disease and who knows where this person went. HIV is the biggest consequences because as yet they couldn’t have found a cure and it is not curable at all so they are stuck with HIV for rest of their
In class we have talked about the aftermath of reporting sexual assault. In many cases this is not an easy experience for the victims. In fact, many people are discouraged from reporting because the length of the process and because the likelihood of justice is so low. We have discussed this as it relates to college campus rapes as well as many other kinds of violence. In both cases discussed in the film, the girls were harassed and bullied online and in person. They were called liars and attention seekers. They were both called sluts and whores, while the boys received little to no negative attention. The bullying got so out of hand that Audrie took her own life. According to the film, Daisy attempted suicide multiple times as well. There was so much victim-blaming present in this film. We talked a lot about this in class, but I have never seen it first hand. While I knew that it happened a lot, I found it hard to believe that it would happen in cases like these. I wanted to believe that we as a society would support the girls going through such a horrific experience, but I was clearly wrong. In addition, both of the girls started to believe the nasty things that were being said about them online. They were constantly hearing these negative comments and eventually they started to accept them a true statements. This something we have discussed in class and read in the book throughout this
Sociological Analysis of Sexual Assault This essay will examine the social and cultural conditions, within the macro-diachronic and micro-synchronic theoretical models, that intensify or perpetuate sexual assault. I have chosen only one concept from each model because these are the only concepts that I feel that I can use to most accurately and comprehensively depict causes and reasons for why sexual assault is deeply entrenched in our social structure. I will thus explore, from these ideological viewpoints, some of the motivations and circumstances that lead offenders to sexual assault. I will also fuse some of the historical attitudes from which today's concepts have evolved into our contemporary understanding of these social phenomena. However, it’s important that we look beyond both offenders' motivations and history, and to the greater sociological view, if we are to correctly reconstruct acts of violence such as sexual assault.
Sexual assault is defined as any type of sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the explicit consent of the recipient. Falling under the definition of sexual assault are sexual activities as forced sexual intercourse, forcible sodomy, child molestation, incest, fondling, and In the United States 80% of sexual assault victims are under the age of 30. Of that 80%, 44% are under the age of 18 (RAINN, 2016). That leaves 36% of victims between the ages of 18 and 30. These percentages become even more alarming when that 80% is of about 293,000 victims of secual assualt each year (RAINN, 2016). It is estimated that 1 in every 6 women in the US has been or will be victims of sexual assault in their lifetime. The risks of sexual assault increase on college campuses. Women ages 18-24 who are enrolled in college are 3 times more likely than women in general to suffer from sexual violence (RAINN, 2016). One would think that with all these women being sexually assaulted, one would hear more about it, or perhaps the police stations would constantly be busy. This is not the case. Sexual assault is one of the most unreported crimes, with 68% still being left unreported (RAINN, 2016). This could be because of every 100 rapists, only 2 will spend a day in jail. Of the 32 out of 100 that would be reported, only 7 are referred to an arrest (RAINN, 2016). Why would men or women want to report sexual assault when the system that is supposed to protect them fails so often, and why does this system continue to fail?
Sexual Assault on College Campus Cause and Effect Essay In general, rape means force or threatening to use force against a potential victim. It includes vaginal but doesn’t exclude other forms such as, anal and oral penetration. Rape tends to get grouped with women, but, there are also men who get victimized as well. It’s not limited to heterosexuals either, there’s also homosexual offenders (“Sexual Assault”).
We all have the means and capability to make a change in this world for the better of sexual assault. Whether it be reporting the incident, the victim retelling his or her story to those who’ll listen, or forming groups against any mean of sexual assault. This would greatly help indeed, but take this into consideration; what will happen if such a thing were never to be done? That being the case, we would more than likely suffer in the long run for having much more campus attenders being violated and sexually assaulted. Especially for our known individuals who’re attending schools for semesters; we’re basically saying that we could care less about the wellbeing of our friends, family, and associates who are by themselves on campuses; that if they get sexually assaulted, it’ll be their own faults. In actuality, the fault will have been ours. We don’t want that, do
Sexual assault is defined as a type of behaviour that occurs without explicit consent from the recipient and under sexual assault come various categories such as sexual activities as forces sexual intercourse, incest, fondling, attempted rape and more (Justice.gov. 2017). People often become victims of sexual assault by someone they know and trust (Mason & Lodrick, 2013) which is conflicting to the public’s perception and beliefs that offenders are strangers. Women are the main victims for sexual assault and are 5 times more likely to have been a victim of sexual assault from a male (Wright, 2017, p. 93). Men are victims of sexual assault however only 0.7% of men, compared to 3.2% of women, experience some form of sexual assault which highlights how vulnerable women are compared to men. Sexual assault is publicised and exposed in the media, however is often
Sexual assault is something very serious and dangerous and can mess a person’s life up both physically and mentally. Females are feeling unsafe on the grounds of places were they are going to get an education to make a dream come true. Why should they feel unsafe and why should they have to worry about being a target. Also many people need to realize how big of an issue this is and it shouldn’t be brushed under the
Seeing and listening to the speakers talk about the painful experiences that they’ve been through made my perspective change completely. Before this event, I did not know anyone who has been a victim of sexual violence (unless they haven’t spoken up). I had no idea how common sexual violence was in this world, especially at universities. I also did not know how hard it was for victims to come to terms with their situation and speak about it. I truly believe that this new perspective I now have will change the way I view people, and stop me from being judgmental. Given all of the knowledge I’ve gained, I will uphold the promise we all made in the beginning of the ceremony to become an active bystander and take a stand against sexual
I don't particularly feel strongly about an actual event from my sixth grade year, except for when Paul Walker, also known as God's single most beautiful creation, died. But I figured you wouldn't appreciate reading a paper about a fourteen year old girl's unhealthy obsession with a very grown, very deceased man. So, to stay off of that odd topic I wanted to write about something slightly depressing but very serious. Rape and Sexual assault. This topic is something that is extremely important to me for a multitude reasons and the things I've found and things I've seen over my entire life can definitely play into why this topic has the ability to invoke so much emotion from me. I wanted to speak about this because sixth grade was the year I
Sexual assault and rape should be taken more seriously. People should be able to recognize and know when consent is given and when it’s not. Sexual assault and rape are extremely serious crimes. Reflecting back on the photo which showed a young lady passed out on a couch, with a sign that say’s if I can’t no then I can’t say yes, which conveys the message that she can’t give consent because she is passed out from intoxication. I believe that the campaign could have been more detailed when portraying their message to their audience. I believe that they made a strong enough message with the image that was
The responses to the survivor’s story were all different and none of them were helpful, this makes it even more difficult for someone who has been sexually assaulted to talk to anyone about it. The people that are sexually assaulted will go to someone they trust for help, all they will want is to be believed and comforted.

This may include forced sexual acts, manipulation, verbal threats, and unwanted touching. Being assaulted by another person can cause serious emotional, mental, and physical harm. Some common symptoms include, unwanted memories, flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, depression, isolation, self-blame, humiliation etc. (Lev, 2017).
