Community College Vs High School

College is a huge step in many people's lives. Most jobs require some amount of schooling beyond high school. However, college consumes a lot of time and it also comes with a big price tag. There is a lot that students need to think about before they begin their college schooling. Students need to figure out how much time they are going to have to devote tobeing in class along with studying outside of class. Students have to decide if a community college or a university is going to work better for them. Also, the students need to figure out how they are going to pay for their classes.

College involves many hours both in class and outside of class. College is extremely different than high school. In college most of the work is done on the

student's time. The professor's lecture on the material, but it is the student's job to spend the time to understand the information. Also, it is the student's job to see the professor during the professor’s office hours if the student needs help with something. Most people report that they spend on average three hours outside of class to every hour in class. Some people say the three hours outside of class is simply enough to pass the class not necessarily get an A in the class. A full time student takes at least twelve credits. If a student was a full time student they would be in class at least twelve hours, and the student should spend on average 36 hours a week studying and doing work outside of the class. Therefor a student taking twelve credits should spend on average 48 hours a week focused on their college classes. The students normally have to find time around classes to work in order to pay of the classes.
College is expensive, but the cost will change depending on the school. The cost of college varies a lot from community colleges and private colleges. Community colleges on average cost around seven thousand dollars a year. However, a private college normally costs around twenty five to twenty seven thousand dollars a year. The cost is a significant difference. Many students work full time jobs to pay their college tuition. More times than not, students have to take out student loans to pay for their college courses. Student debt adds up to 1.2 trillion dollars in debt (Kirp 119). The cost of college is why so many students apply for scholarships, so they can afford to attend college.
As stated above college require a lot of time and is very expensive. College is not something that people should take lightly. College requires a lot of time both in and out of class. It also requires students to take their education in their own hands. Also, college comes with a big price tag, which is a problem for many people.
